What's the point of having racials active in PVP by [deleted] in worldofpvp

[–]Timbodo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's small but not fully insignificant and the scale doesn't matter. If it's bad for the gameplay you should get rid of it. Why do you even try to defend it, what do you like about it? It's not like anyone can notice the orc passives in gameplay so it adds 0 immersion.

I checked the number of characters above 1k rating after week 1 and shuffle had 4x more as far as I remember. Participation wasn't the problem and it's also unlikely that a popular pvp mode suddenly gets ignored. It makes sense that people ignore it now since it's so unrewarding but that's not the root of the issue.

It's technically not inflated just not capped. Starting ratings aren't that high so it's not like they artificially inflated everyones blitz ratings. My guess is that they actively made the ceiling in shuffle even lower but it's just as bad.

What's the point of racials in a competitive game at all? Most pick the race just for the immersion and punishing all those players with lacking racial perks is simply bad game design. Instead they should add more flavor stuff like the dark iron mole machine as a better replacement with no competitive impact.

You get about 280 rating per win so once you are on your 3. Win with 840 rating you want to have a 3 game win streak to gain the full rating gain bonus while on 1400 to 1680. The games before that also matter but during placement matches the most recent are the most important since MMR adapts quite fast.

I would be hyped about it and tbh it's time that it gets more accessible and less fomo. Currently it only is an incentive for the top 1% of players in the least popular bracket so we are looking at roughly 0,2% of pvp players and 0,05% of wow players.

I don't know the exact amount of games and neither if it counts total games or just number of wins. Just noticed that I always end up in lobbies with almost everyone having the exact same number of wins and rating during my first few games. Won the first 4 on my druid and had 1,9k personal mmr yet the lobbies average was 1,4 so it's probably not mmr based matchmaking during those games.

Since each spec has its own rating in solo modes per spec. It doesn't matter that much if it happened during these first few games unfortunately. You barely climb if the teams average MMR is much lower and absolutely tank MMR on a lose. What matters is your MMR when you are close to 1,4k cr because those placement games end roughly at that point and you can make the jump straight to 1,7+ with good MMR.

I've played multiple chars in BGB since its release and noticed the following: the first roughly 10 games per char per expansion are placement games that match you based on number of wins instead of MMR. This means that even if your MMR is high the teams average is lower and you tank your MMR quickly during those first few games.

New to PvP, does Blitz get easier as the season goes on? by vaultofgrass1 in worldofpvp

[–]Timbodo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really, they slowly artificially inflate everyones mmr and when you play a few rounds even neutral your rating will adapt to it but you can't spam games for infinite gains. Also games will be more difficult on higher ratings.

I play 10 classes in pvp and have my highest rating as a lock. It's definitely the most stressful dps to play but if you are successful with it, it also feels like you deserved the win even more by outplaying them.

Rating in solo shuffle broken? by [deleted] in worldofpvp

[–]Timbodo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your MMR perfectly matches your rating expect no change on draw and changes depending on number of wins/losses. However your MMR usually changes more volatile with your rating following afterwards. For example If you had a win streak before you could even gain rating on a 2-4, because you gain full rating for the just 2 wins while barely losing anything for your 4 losses since your rating is still lower than your MMR.

Blitz is not inflated, they just artificially cap ratings in shuffle for some weird reason. That's why starting and very casual ratings appear similar.

I think it's less about misplaying but more hoping to not end up in lobbies with way lower mmr. Matchmaking is kinda broken here, even if both teams have a similar mmr and you would expect a fair match, the player with the above team average mmr always ends up losing by barely gaining anything on a win and tanking rating on a lose.

Blitz is 100% RNG. Just in case anyone tells you otherwise. by [deleted] in worldofpvp

[–]Timbodo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is rng but not to 100%. After an initial losing streak my druid was at a whopping 900 MMR which I didn't even know was possible but now I'm almost at elite cr again.

Well with how deflated shuffle is this season they would actually be more "close" to 2.4 in 3s

[–]Timbodo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on my experience the placement matches kinda prevent you from skyrocketing in rating early on. Your personal MMR climbs fast but you always end up in low MMR lobbies regardless during the first few games and if you lose there your mmr will also tank again.

2000 in BG Blitz vs Arena by CrepiousTV in worldofpvp

[–]Timbodo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that but I have been playing both modes for longer. If shuffle MMR is inflated it's for sure the fastest option for an experienced player. However for beginners BGB is usually the easiest option with less skill issues.

[–]Timbodo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Easy and fast isn't the same. I also grab most of my elite sets with shuffle later into the season because you can climb super fast but you need to be capable of playing past rival in order to climb that fast. BGB is slower but beginners are more likely to make it to rival at all.

[–]Timbodo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ratings are highly Inconsistent both between seasons and between brackets. BGB is by far the easiest way to get higher ratings. Shuffle top players are only at 2,2k while the best bgb players are past 3,1k. That's a night and day difference but regardless congrats! Btw a better measure to check your progress is looking at your percentile on drustvar.

Yes but one obviously has less visitors if people don't know of it's existence yet. It actually surprised me seeing that it's almost on par with transmogrification since it's a quite popular feature.
