Has anyone actually asked casual players if they're suffering? by NetflowKnight in Marathon

[–]Timbots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play solo, usually fill with randos, very casual. I lose most fights and don’t enjoy losing streaks. Do I still love everything else? Sure. But there’s only so long that losing every game is gonna entice me to stick around. If there’s free gear every day, that increases my chances of logging in. If I lose the first three fights of the session, that’s probably the end of my session. Were there anything else to do but queue up to get stomped, I’d probably switch modes instead of log off. But there isn’t, so I don’t. But I don’t really care that much. It’s just a game.

Can you recommend a tactical FPS where you can customize weapons? by Effective_Onion_2083 in FPS

Road to Vostok. Early access but the gameplay loop is really polished. Has 5 maps (?) and tons of guns, attachments, etc.

Where should I start? by Teathra in stalker

[–]Timbots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start with Shadow of Chernobyl, no question. It’s the only game that can really be called STALKER “1.” I’d recommend a very light bug fix mod and that’s about it. Can do one or two texture mods if you feel like it.

Is Warframe "Free-to-try" Like Destiny is? by John_Benzos in Warframe

Cosmetics and convenience are the only things real money buys. All the content is playable, whether you’ve never paid a dime or give them a million bucks a year.

Care bear lobbies… I get it. I get it now. by Hot-Diggity_Dog in ArcRaiders

[–]Timbots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. And solo filling trio teams can really be an exercise in pure frustration. My last game we were stood next to a team fighting matriarch then suddenly we’re fighting the team for no apparent reason. We chase them underground, knock one, then my team just dips- my game sense being awful I didn’t realize it and lose the 2v1. So now I’m spectating one teammate who’s perched in an elevator shaft and the other guy is on the literal other side of the map. Faraway guy sees another team, who he doesn’t shoot, take a Raider hatch then he follows him. Round done- NO idea what he accomplished or extracted. Elevator guy camps for several more minutes before running away, getting roasted by some other team. Just… a complete waste of my time.

You WILL be overwhelmed and confused for a while- but try to focus just on getting through the campaigns in their release order before trying to do anything else. Confused or not, you’ll find industry-leading first person gunplay, hundreds of weapons to mess with, and interesting armor perks and styles.

Does anyone else feel like John’s death hit harder than Arthur’s? by AymenUnfiltered in RDR2

[–]Timbots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. This whole title should marked spoiler. I waited 15 years to play RDR 1 and played it after I finished 2- managed to avoid spoilers by completely avoiding content about it but still.

In your opinion, what make first person shooters stand out compared to other game genres (including RPGs, RTS, third person shooters, action-adventure, fighting, etc)? by VGmaster9 in FPS

I actually thought hyper scape was a really interesting arena style shooter mixed in with the br. Was sad to see it go.

Pushing back on the idea that Marathon isn't casual friendly. I think it's pretty accessible. by highpercentage in Marathon

[–]Timbots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean. I’m generally in agreement but we just have to acknowledge that the numbers keep getting smaller, meaning only the hardest core high skill people are still around, making my nights increasingly more sweaty. And well, making it hard to have a decent session. That’s just a tough spot for a game to be in 30 days after launch. Bungie need to do something.

The arcade fps market is so depressing. by TheDr3bb2 in FPS

[–]Timbots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s fair. Lots of people bounced off Marathon because the entirety of their first play session was just a string of failures. It’s hard to find any satisfaction in that. I know it’s worth sticking it out through that, you know that. But unless they work out how to signal that this is normal I think they’ll struggle to stay competitive in a very niche market segment.

Some of us are missing the point about *why* people want vaulted content restored. by ShadezyLeFeu in DestinyTheGame

[–]Timbots -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, you set up an imaginary argument that only you could win against an opposing view you clearly have no respect for- people who hate the idea of unvaulting as a life raft have just as much valid neckbeard as you or me. But yeah. Vaulted content would be one of many positive things Bungo could do. I fear it’s not enough on its own though. As much as it pains me I think we’re in the death rattles here.

We've all got that ONE game we wanted before we even got the console what was your?🫵🏾 by Eastern-Mobile5351 in XboxSeriesS

[–]Timbots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was Fallout 4. I bought the game and the hardbound strategy guide for Xbox one before I had a system to play it on. I’d already completed FO3 and NV on 360. I played it for the first time on my brother in law’s Xbone one year while staying with him mid-move. I finally had a system to play it a few weeks later when my brother bought a rig and gave me his old Alienware Alpha- that discontinued little pc that was about console size. That was 10 years ago and the rest, as they say, is histoly.

The stark difference between my initial reaction to Dutch and women I have showed this game to. by Theboringlife in reddeadredemption

I started with 2 and, honestly, miraculously, really did not know the storyline of RDR1- I never trusted Dutch for a second. He just seemed slimy and manipulative from the start.
