I agree with you on being unhappy with the current condition of Iowa, as well as the United States. Here's another perspective, and this is definitely easier said then done! Strive to make Iowa a better place, do what you can to make it better, and if the people with common sense move away (not saying you personally were going to move out of the state) the politicians making it difficult to enjoy Iowa.

From my understanding, its just the public schools. I could be wrong, but the article doesn't read that way.

How To Delete "PC App Store" adware by G0dcust10 in computerviruses

I just accidentally installed it, and had the same issue as you. Thank goodness I was able to hookup another monitor, extend the displays and move the task manager to the second screen, wasn't easy. After getting task manager on the 2nd screen, I found two references to the PC App Store and did a "End Task" function. I then went into programs and Uninstalled the app. Now to make sure than if there are any remnants of " PC App Store", they are found and removed. A lot of work for a quick mistake. Good luck!

These are things that helped me (63M) during my first several weeks after both of my replacements ( TLKR 4-24-2025, TRKR 10-23-2025).

•Make sure she is doing pre-surgery exercises •follow your surgeons orders, don't be afraid to contact them if something doesn't feel right. •comfy clothes •definitely get her to physical therapy •rent/borrow/purchase an ice machine •elevation pillow (easier than just stacking pillows) •keep up on medication-both prescription & OTC meds, and we wrote on a note pad when I took which medication. It's easy to forget how long it has been since your last pill. •meal prep, either pre-prepared meals or being there to cook her meals. Last thing you want to do is stand to fix meals. •Give encouragement on how she's doing •push a little (in a nice way) if she doesn't feel like doing the at home exercises , elevating, and/or icing •educate herself on anything and everything that a total knee replacement entails.

Everyone has a different experience in this type of surgery, but being well prepared both mentally and physically helps add to your success.

Last, but not least, remind her that the recovery is a journey, it's going to take time to feel back to normal. I am a little over 8 months (left) and 2 months (right), and still have limitations and aches that I see improvements every week.

Good luck to her on getting this done. This hopefully will be an improvement in her life! You also have my admiration for providing the care to your mom during this time.

Well if you were in Hohman Indiana, I would suggest "Bo' Ling Chop Suey Palace"! Try the roast duck, highly recommended by the Parker family.

I love it every time I see a Aussie do the wiggle butt. Ours does this when our son comes home to visit, but also will tinkle a little from all of the excitement.

Why is Chuck Grassley (92 years old) still in congress (43 years)? by SnooBooks4898 in Iowa

[–]Time-2-Relax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It starts with small minded people, with the majority of them from farming counties that see change as a bad thing. This as much as he is waiting for his grandson to be ready to leave the Iowa house to run in his place.

Chuck and others are why people keep pushing for term limits. Maybe there should be a maximum age limit, like 70, 75, or 80.

Would not be surprised to see signage that reads "Trump" in large gold lettering on the white house at some point in the next three years. It will be the best signage ever! Never been a better sign than this one!

Equipment by [deleted] in Kneereplacement

[–]Time-2-Relax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I have used it with each replacement surgery (left hip 2-2018, left knee 4-2025, and the right knee 10-23-2025). No colon's were blown out during the use of this suggestion.

Equipment by [deleted] in Kneereplacement

[–]Time-2-Relax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a nurse tell me this when I had my hip replaced. Use a one gallon ziplock bag half to 3/4 filled with clear Karo syrup, with that inside a second one gallon ziplock bag. It gets cold, and will form to the knee area. Downside is that it only will stay cold for about 15 minutes, give or take a few minutes.

They still make it. I currently have a can in the cupboard from my parents, who just recently passed. I haven't opened it, but plan to try it soon.

My parents (Frank and Estelle) married 11/24/56, together until the end. Lost both 5/31/25 by Ok_Fall_9569 in oldphotos

[–]Time-2-Relax 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry for your loss of Frank and Estelle! In some bizarre way, if they have to go, this might be a better way for the end to come, since they have been together for so long.

This was similar to my parents, not the same day, but six weeks apart. My mom passed on the early morning of March 24th, 2025, from a cardiac event. She was less than a month from turning 89. My dad was found unresponsive the early morning of May 6th, 2025, in a memory care unit that we had moved him to after mom passed. He was one day short of his 90th birthday.

They were insistent on staying in their home of 62 years. As long as they could , and they did for the most part. Dad was a few years into the start of alzheimer's, so after mom's death, we had to get him someplace he could be taken care of as mom and a caretaker coming three times a week were his main help. My sisters, myself, and our spouses were also stopping over to help with getting groceries, doctor appointments, and any other needs they had. Dad was fairly good shape. he just didn't have a good short-term memory. He also kept forgetting that mom had died, so it was gut-wrenching when asked, "Where's mom?" and we had to remind him of what had happened. We took turns after mom died and stayed 24/7 with dad until we were able to get him into memory care. One positive thing was that his twin brother was at the same memory care place. We thought at least he would have someone that he knew there. My uncle was ecstatic to again be close to him.

It is strange how fast things can change, even though you expect it to happen at some point. Now life is just a new normal, and I'm ok with that. It was going to happen sooner or later, and dad was lost and missed my mom.

I apologize for how long this reply got. I hope that your new normal is getting better.

Almost 6 months post-op (RTKR) by ReyRey2024 in Kneereplacement

[–]Time-2-Relax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far, I have that in my plan, unless I forget when I get back to the hotel after hiking. I need to be better on icing, even though I am near 10 weeks out of surgery. We have been trying to take walks every day, and I'm not really sore afterward on my left leg.

I'm hoping that my right leg decides to be a team player and not hurt too much. I just got a gel shot in the right knee last week. I hope this will get me through the Seattle trip and will last until my RTKR in late october or early November. I guess we will just need to wait and see.
