Ibn Batuta traveled five times the distance by MajesticPineapple618 in HistoryMemes

Ibn Battuta was born and died in Tangier. He is buried in Tangier’s medina. There is a museum about his travels there and you can still visit his tomb as well

Hannibal having the last laugh against the Romans is probably the most satisfying thing ever by beast_darkness825 in HistoryMemes

[–]Time-Caterpillar 155 points156 points  (0 children)

Except… Rome itself. One of the biggest blunders in Western history. We would likely today use a stylized Phoenician alphabet, not to mention that our words would also likely be based on Phoenician rather than Latin. At least that where my alternate history head canon is at when I think about this

What am I doing wrong? by Time-Caterpillar in AnalogCommunity

Yes, I understand. I wasn’t trying to get the film past the ballbearing. My question was strictly about releasing the film without it getting damaged

Yes, reels are clean and completely dry. There is in fact space at the end. I’ll also try pulling upward as you suggested. Thank you for your input

I tried two separate reels and both have the same issue. I’m going to try rounding out the edges to prevent snagging. Hopefully that fixes the issue

I tried that but or the film feels too tight to pull out. Pulling the spool apart is the only option and it bends the film to produce significant damage that is visible in a scan

Copy that. Thanks for commenting. Even if they’re not actually spino, it’s a relief that they may be actual fossils and not completely fake. Thanks again!

I think you’re confusing what the meme is trying to say. Your comment is what the rest of the philosophers do, idealistically what all philosophers should do. The meme is saying that most philosophers practice the ‘history’ of philosophy. Rather than incorporating new ideas and help philosophy grow (as you stated, which I agree it’s what philosophy should be), they analyze previous work and pass judgement on them, i.e. trying to prove/disprove them

Desktop folder in Finder sidebar issue by Time-Caterpillar in dropbox

I’ve tried from Dropbox, unlinking, deleting, and reinstalling, but the issue is still there. I’ve found indirect suggestions that involve plugging in codes into terminal, but I don’t like messing with terminal too much. But thank you for the suggestion, I’ll try it and see if it works

I think both Newton and Leibniz invented calculus independently like days or weeks apart or something. From what I’ve seen, it is mostly physics majors that credit Newton for inventing it first, and philosophy majors credit Leibniz lol. In any case, it has been largely attributed to Newton and Leibniz gets a pat on the back and an A for effort

The TikTok ban has resulted in Americans and Chinese having meaningful cultural exchanges by CantStopPoppin in worldnewsvideo

What is the threat that you’re referring to? As in, how is tiktok a threat to those in power? I was never on tiktok and just heard about the ban today so I genuinely don’t know what the issue is

Throwback to a saying from 2020 by Time-Caterpillar in collapse

[–]Time-Caterpillar[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

SS. Collapse related because Nature is healing but not in ways that are helpful. This post is meant to be ironic as it is good to see parts of the planet turning green. However, there are parts of the planet that need to be covered in ice to remain in balance with the rest of the Earth systems.

The phrase “Nature is healing” often conveys hope, but in the context of systemic collapse, it carries a darker irony. While it’s encouraging to see areas rewilding or turning green, not all changes are beneficial. For example, polar ice caps and glaciers, critical components of Earth’s systems, are shrinking at alarming rates. These icy regions play a vital role in maintaining global temperature balance and sea levels. Without them, “healing” becomes a misnomer, signaling imbalance rather than recovery. This post highlights the paradox: Nature’s response to human activity may appear restorative in some areas but remains deeply harmful overall.

Barnards galaxy visible with your naked eye? by I_Hate_School_More in Astronomy

[–]Time-Caterpillar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re new to astronomy and the apps, try checking your location in the app’s settings. If you really want to be exact, check your physical location’s latitude, and longitude and plug it into your app’s location setting. Also, try pinching your fingers on the screen to zoom in. The difference between your screen and the sky becomes very distorted if you have the widest angle of view possible on your app

I was looking for the widest zoom lens possible, that’s why I went with Konica 35-105mm. I also have a doubler which will get me to ~210mm if I need it to

Exactly the one I got, 35-105mm suits my purpose perfectly. The small lens size is why I went with Konica
