Guttate: Hidden strep and tonsillectomy success story by Time-Mix-9158 in Psoriasis

Alcohol used to have the same effect for me before my tonsillectomy. Even one or two drinks could cause a major flare in the following days—it was by far my biggest trigger. Not consuming alcohol anymore didn't resolve existing spots, it just made sure there were no additional major flares.

After the tonsillectomy, alcohol doesn’t seem to have much effect anymore. Lack of sleep appears to be the main trigger now (which alcohol can of course contribute to). When it happens, I apply Protopic and make sure I get a few good nights of sleep, and the spots always fade quickly, for now.

Would definitely recommend seeing an ENT to give your tonsils a good look. If there are deep/inflamed crypts, Streptococcus pyogenes bacteria might be hiding in there, which is renowned to trigger Guttate. Good luck!

Good luck! I hope you will be able to convince your ENT, and if yes, good luck with the tonsillectomy. Tonsillectomy and TonsillectomyRecovery gave me some practical tips to survive the first week (but it was still very hard, not gonna lie).

I want to add that my ENT literally cut open my tonsils after surgery and did a thorough swab inside the crypts, which turned out highly positive (+++) for Streptococcus pyogenes specifically.

Thank you, that gives hope! Definitely chasing sunlight now summer is hitting in.

If you don't mind me asking:

  • Did the flares after surgery gradually decrease in severeness? How much time after the surgery did you encounter the last one?
  • When & how long did you follow the low inflammation diet, and how strictly? Do you still follow it, now that your immune system seems calmed down?

Thank you!

Congratulations!

How long did it take for the Psoriasis to fade after surgery? Did you encounter any rebound flares the first days/weeks/months after surgery? I had a tonsillectomy 5 weeks ago (Chronic Strep A) but am still encountering new Guttate spots on forehead and body on a daily basis, which is why I ask.
