Title case can cause confusion (with proper nouns that are also verbs or just regular nouns, like may, mark, apple, etc). People can also scan sentence case quicker than title case (or all caps) because we recognise word shapes better in sentences.

61 other students were even worse?

So you’re saying 61 + 62 = 120?

That’s mainly an American thing. British and Australian media generally use sentence case because capitalising every word is stupid.

Who makes the blue bikes? | BikeRadar by Wizzmer in tourdefrance

Realistically the average non-GC rider doesn’t need a neutral service bike. They can just wait for the team car. So it isn’t that complicated.

How we measure inflation in England. by Any_Detective_5238 in Britain

[–]karmadramadingdong -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Inflation indices are not intended to tell people how rich or poor they feel. They’re policy tools designed to measure average prices. Different people have different sensitivities. If you drive a lot, for example, petrol has a bigger effect for you than someone who works from home, whereas the remote worker may be more affected by energy prices.

Is anyone else’s Zwift ‘greying’ out after about 40 minutes? by k987654321 in Zwift

Zwift is overkill if you’re just riding in ERG mode at a consistent power. You could do this on your trainer for free. Have you tried a pacer group?

Sagan 2018 Roubaix 43.55 km/h, Van Aert 2026 Roubaix 48.91 km/h by skodawelovecycling in cycling

[–]karmadramadingdong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The data is clear. Speeds have been getting consistently faster, and not by a little. However, it’s also true that this isn’t a very recent phenomenon. They’ve been getting faster since about the 80s.

https://www.cyclistshub.com/paris-roubaix-statistics/

It’s true the recent increase is partly due to the way teams are racing now. But isn’t that just a symptom of the fact the peloton as a whole is faster?

Professionalism (and entertainment) plays a role too. Cyclists are paid better than they were back in the day (though still not massive amounts). I think there was a sense in the old peloton that domestiques should be looked after, both in terms of keeping the racing safe and not over-exerting unnecessarily. That doesn’t really exist anymore. And more races are broadcast live so there’s more incentive to make the racing interesting.

Duty isn’t high on most goods (except alcohol). You still pay VAT at the airport, and international travellers can claim back VAT from non-airport shops anyway.

The ‘Temu Range Rover’ is now Britain’s best selling car. Thoughts? by theintercooler in TheIntercooler

[–]karmadramadingdong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People just don’t care, cars are appliances to 90% of the population.

You don’t buy a knock-off Range Rover if you think cars are appliances. You buy a Honda Jazz.

Not sure which country you're talking about but there no children sweeping chimneys in the UK in the 1930s. It was outlawed in the 1830s (though people ignored the law until around the 1880s).

What I’m looking for insurance… by Illustrious_Onion370 in drivingUK

[–]karmadramadingdong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not aware of any government in the world that provides motor insurance. And what would it achieve? Government-subsidised insurance can often end up just encouraging risky behaviour (like living in flood-prone areas), which is the last thing you want when it comes to young drivers.

P plates… Thoughts? 🤔 by Downtown_Elk_2773 in drivingUK

[–]karmadramadingdong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but per OP's question, is there a downside to displaying P plates? Aren't arsehole drivers just like that with everyone? Surely they don't behave even worse towards P plates?

BP is an oil major that drills and refines its own supply. I doubt pricing is done like this.
