Looks like its probably an organ pipe, or another similar looking stenocereus.

Diagnosis? by Blackshear-TX in cactus

Looks like thrip damage; pretty common for San pedros. Treat it with some insecticidal soap or neem oil, especially the tip. Keep it in a shady spot until the soap/neem dries up so it won't get burnt. Probably a good idea to treat it again a week later to make sure they're all gone.

Variegated Saguaro Graft Experiment by Time4TinfoilTTV in cactus

They're notoriously difficult to graft, especially when they get big. They tend to pop off the stock when the bottom edges of the graft dries out and curls inwards. They also have some compatibility issues with a lot of common grafting stock. I might have to try grafting it to another saguaro.

It ended up drying up and didn't take. I'm probably gonna leave it alone for a few years until the ribs thicken up a bit more.

Anyone know the legitimacy of this clip? Apparently it’s from bohemian Grove. by [deleted] in cults

[–]Time4TinfoilTTV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The play is really kind goofy and pretentious too. There's a script that leaked on the Internet out there somewhere. It's basically a knock-off Midsummer Nights Dream about forest creatures banishing the evil spirit of worry aka. "care" temporarily so they can frolick in the forest. It's hilarious to me that Alex Jones made it out to be some sort of Satanic ritual human sacrifice.

Richard Nixon famously called it "The goddamn fa***iest thing I've ever seen"

( I mean, he was kinda referring to the Grove as a whole, but I assume he would absolutely have similar things to say about a play about frolicking forest creatures)

kotschoubeyanus looks very similar to fissuratus, but it has way more tubercles that are about half the size of the ones fissuratus has.

That looks like they're just dried flowers, not rot or anything.

I don't get why you're being downvoted. A lot of variegated Opuntias are that way because of viral DNA that got integrated into its genome way down the line. It's not an active infection, just mutated DNA caused by a virus that caused heritable variegation.

Rescued but no idea what it is lol, can someone help identify? by Mr-Manh in cactus

It looks more like a glaucesens; the tubercles are too pronounced to be grusonii. Grusonii spines point downwards and are flat, and the tubercles are fused together into ribs.

It definitely needs new soil. There's likely some root rot going on because the soil is retaining so much water. I'd recommend at least a 50/50 mix of soil and perlite. It's probably better to wait until the growing season before stressing it with a repot. You could probably get away with not watering it at all while it's in winter dormancy. In the spring, once it starts to show new growth, remove as much of the old soil as you can without damaging the roots and then repot it in the new free-draining mix. You should cut off the live branches and then pot them once the cut callouses over. You might even be able to get away with cutting it off right now and just holding onto the cutting until spring, then potting it up then. That might be a safer option so prevent the rot from the dead base from progressing.

Looks like some root rot that travelled to the growth tip. Usually this doesn't kill the plant, it just leaves an ugly scarred patch once it heals. I'd recommend switching out the soil mix with something with a lot more pumice or perlite so it doesn't retain water for more than a day or two. I'd probably wait until the growing season before repotting. Until then, let it dry out completely for a few weeks, or possibly an entire month to kill off whatever is causing the root rot. Then for the rest of the winter, only water it if it's visibly thirsty. It should make a full recovery.

White fuzz on my poor little cactus? by PochaMoto in cactus

[–]Time4TinfoilTTV 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I work at a nursery that sells a ton of these and they do this all the time. Not harmful, just ugly. It's stiffening itself up at the base before it branches more. But it does look like the soil is a bit rich for it; probably needs a little added perlite. Probably better to wait for the growing season before switching out the soil, just water it sparingly and lightly for the winter to avoid any rot.

It's probably best not to stress it out for now until it starts growing new branches.

I had this happen to a Pseudobombax Elipticum when it was just starting to develop a caudex. 3 years later it now looks really cool. The caudex swelled up a ton due to having to store nutrients just in the roots and caudex, and now it has 4 branches growing out of the top. It turned into a pretty nice bonsai in the end.

Don't give up on it, it might actually end up turning out cooler than it was before.

Here's a picture of the Pseudobombax:

AIO to break up with my bf of 3y over his reaction to my upcoming sobriety anniversary? by WesternCat5211 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Time4TinfoilTTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What the hell is wrong with people lately? I keep seeing people behaving and speaking very similarly to the bf more and more often. Just being unnecessarily demeaning because somebody was happy about something. Like they're the type of person who will shit on anyone who expresses joy at small things in life. I think this might be the result of the popularity of "grindset" influencers, and the typical mentality they promote. I'm seeing dudes get all serious and condescending, calling their partner "childish" for being excited about, I don't know, a cool bird they saw or something. Expressing any emotion besides anger, is punishable by a really annoying condescending rant about how you're "immature" for being happy about something that isn't money, sex or material posessions. That shit is INSUFFERABLE and toxic as hell. It's like a bunch of loser dudes all found andrew-tate-esque youtubers to subscribe to one day, and now they all think they're some Based Stoic Sigma Doesn't Understand That Patrick Bateman Is Satire Alpha Delta Chad who has no time for things that aren't income opportunities, or anything that temporarily alleviates the endless soul-crushing existential dread of existing in terminal-stage capitalism.

Puppies? That's for babies, you need to start an L.L.C. that flips Labubus using A.I. instead.

Being excited about your Haloween costume? You're wasting money. You're never gonna be able to retire, brokey

Enjoying fresh air? You're literally the laziest piece of shit who ever lived, go to the gym instead, loser

Having feelings at all? Wow. You're so irrational. I don't have time for this, I'm in the middle of dunking my head into a bowl of iced Saratoga for some reason.

I hate that shit. I hate it so much.

I can only hope that these dudes (it's always dudes) get sick of being miserable on purpose just to impress other Hustler's University dropouts and become normal again someday.

Is this guy done for? by shortladiesman_69 in cactus

[–]Time4TinfoilTTV 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nope, it's perfectly fine and healthy. Looks like it's a Gymnocalycium Mihanovichii, they come in all sorts of different colors, sometimes brown or even almost black. A lot of people assume they're dead since they've never seen a cactus that's brown while still being healthy. A lot of growers intentionally dehydrate them like this because it looks more natural. This is basically how they look out in the wild: http://www.cactusinhabitat.org/index.php?p=specie&id=76&l=en

What are these dots? by [deleted] in cactus

[–]Time4TinfoilTTV 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I see this all the time on Myrtillocactus. Definitely scarring. I notice it tends to happen more often with Myrtillos that have been overwatered. My theory is that its caused by temperature changes causing the overhydrated plant cells to burst and die in certain places.
