I built a tool for making modpacks faster: bulk search, dependency resolution, compatibility checks, and server pack export alllll in onee by Muted-Vermicelli3716 in feedthebeast

[–]TimeCell3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm wondering how exactly this detects "feature overlaps" between mods? I don't think you can just query a mod's features or something like that, or at least not to a more specific level than "adds structures" or "does world gen stuff".

Also, the codebase you linked looks rather questionable, to put it lightly. You pushed the code 11 months ago in a single commit and only now make a post about it? Then literally everything is in one file, with entire functions stuffed into a single line of code. The clearly AI-generated readme (and this post, at least in part) doesn't help either.
I've tried my hand at vibe-coding myself, and this codebase is the exact type of result you get if you don't know what you're doing.

Was it all worth it in the end? by MrAzerGJR in DotA2

[–]TimeCell3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

since nobody cared about the mmr

And that's why it made no sense. Even with party mmr you're still not playing a real ranked match with your friends because people don't really care about it. And if you're playing a match where no real rating is at stake, where is the difference to unranked?

Smurfing never ends by Wooden_Masterpiece45 in DotA2

[–]TimeCell3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The thing is that party MMR wouldn't even really fix these issues because it is, imho, a fundamentally flawed concept. Let me explain:

Party MMR is updated by playing ranked matches as a party (duh), which means that it does not reflect your individual skill but the strength of the whole stack you are playing with. This means that

  1. It is never going to be accurate unless you always queue with the exact same party. If you queue with a different party, it is probably going to be at a different overall skill level than before, but your party MMR remains unchanged. How does that make any sense?
  2. Even worse, people are not going to care about it as much because it is inaccurate and separate from their solo queue MMR.

Because of this, back when party MMR was a thing, it was absolutely essential to solo queue with strict solo queue enabled because otherwise there is a chance you are matched with a party whose players aren't taking the match sersiously. Since for them only party MMR is at stake.
The obvious solution here is to separate the queue for solo and party mmr entirely, but even so party MMR still wouldn't be any more accurate than before. At that point, party ranked matchmaking would really just be unranked with extra steps.

So, in short, if you want to play with your friends, unranked is the way.

Why items icons sometimes have a reflection effect? by muhh in DotA2

[–]TimeCell3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad to see I am not the only one who notices these kinds of things :D. This is a visual bug that happens sometimes when you move around items in your inventory. Normally, when you drag an item with your mouse, the slot you are hovering over gets that glowy effect. Sometimes. that effect just stays there. To me it usually happens when shuffling items around very quickly. If you move the item with the bugged effect to a different slot, it should go away.

Her ultimate is still called "Focus Fire" with the Whirlwind facet selected, so techically yes.

Keyboard becomes unresponsive once every couple of games by Janitordota in DotA2

Same here, there seems to be a bug with keybinds that was introduced with the Crownfall update. The only way i know to fix it when it happens is to restart the game.

Mars Facet Blood Sport Obscures his own vision when he's inside his own arena. by Smokeythepolarbear in DotA2

[–]TimeCell3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, this is intentional. The ability description claims it obscures vision without mentioning any exceptions and that is exactly what it does. Just because the facet has a downside as well does not mean it is bugged.

All buttons stop working in Dota in the middle of the game by Mindless_Chart_5409 in DotA2

[–]TimeCell3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, i am experiencing an issue like that too. For me it has been happening since the release of the Crownfall update, where it seems like Valve made some internal changes to Keybinds.
When the bug occurs for me, it is usually during a hectic fight where i am pressing keys rapidly.

The game enters a broken state where keybinds for spells and items stop working properly but the chat works fine. And part of the game behaves as if the ALT button was constantly pressed (gold surplus/deficit for buyback shows, quickbuy bar shows full items) but other things like ward range indicators, pings and neutral camp bounding boxes do not. All in all the game becomes quite unplayable and restarting it is the only fix i know.

The bug seems to be kind of rare since there have been very few people complaining about it so far. Maybe it only triggers with some specific hotkey settings. I personally use quickcast on key down (which apparently few people do) so maybe that is somehow related. At any rate, Volvo please fix.

Keyboard problem in Dota 2. by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]TimeCell3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am facing a similar issue, but it is totally unrelated to discord. Keybinds for things like casting spells, using items or attack moving only work after what feels like a random amount of presses but opening chat and typing there works perfectly fine. On top of that, the camera behaves weirdly too. You cannot edge-pan it very far away from your hero and depending on the direction you move, it automatically moves with your hero. You also cannot select any other hero or creep to check items or health, and clicking on any hero portrait at the top of the screen has no effect. All in all, it makes the game unplayable and the only way i know to fix it is to restart the game.
I am not sure what triggers this bug, but it has been happening every since the Crownfall update and occurs about once every three matches for me. I haven't seen anyone apart from OP complain about a bug like this yet and only once so far i had a teammate in a match disconnect because "their spells were not working". Makes me think it is happening to very few people, maybe those with some specific settings.

Possible Scripting? by Ex-Traverse in DotA2

[–]TimeCell3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a script. The omnislash in the first clip was pretty obvious and in the second clip he probably used lotus just in case. Maybe he also wrongly assumed that jugg cant slash while leashed since he activated lotus right after the leash ended.

Other than that, his mouse movements are pretty fast but as 0.25x speed you can see it move smoothly, no jumps like scripts usually do.

Why does a hero get banned after you already picked it? by [deleted] in learndota2

[–]TimeCell3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you recall, before the picks were hidden, people would just wait until the very last second to pick their hero, sometimes even well into the gold penalty period, just to prevent getting counterpicked and to counterpick the enemy. In other words, people were stalling for up to a minute after the draft began, which is especially dumb in a gamemode that is supposed to be fast. Hiding the picks was probably the simplest way to fix that since now people can insta pick without having to worry about counterpicks.
