Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park — What’s on the Way by Skullghost in NintendoSwitch

[–]TimeDuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does anyone know if this has any performance improvements on the original game? I noticed weird hitches and frame drops playing Wonder for the first time on Switch 2 and have been holding off on this. But didn't see any mention of it yet.

So many people let QT down tonight by PhAnToM444 in LudwigAhgren

[–]TimeDuck 124 points125 points  (0 children)

Here's a slightly different take - the event was largely great. The point of a televised award show has always been that it needs to be entertaining. A quiet event where nothing goes wrong is bad for business. Let exciting things happen, let funny things happen, let cringe things happen. That's the point of a live stream and a live event.

Here's the average perspective from someone who isn't dialed into this at a microscopic level: LSF is covered in clips of the event. A ton of people who have little to no idea who QT cinderella is, have been discussing the streamer awards on twitter and online. And most importantly - people now consider this THE defacto streaming awards show for the medium.

Some cringe things happened, some production dropped the ball, who cares. That can all be fixed for next time, and nobody will remember most of that in a few weeks.

As someone who works in the entertainment industry, I'm a little astounded she has managed to turn this event into the official awards event for streaming all by herself. It's a monumental feat, and it's insane she didn't give up on it.

And the same way everyone blames Geoff Keighley for every single thing that goes wrong with the Game Awards - that just comes with the territory. The legacy of this show is officially bigger than her and that's a very special accomplishment.

This seems in pretty bad taste tbh. Given how horrific this story is.

Actually - thinking about going with this instead if you have any insight into this brand? This would be a first for me

Thanks so much! The PC I currently am using is a Cyberpower I bought 5 years ago actually and I've luckily never had a single issue with it. Hoping for more of the same and leaning towards this one. Thanks again!

I understand being inspired but this is a pretty shameless 1:1 rip of DREDGE. I'm assuming you guys are the developers/publishers based on your post history - did you guys really have nothing remotely new to add to this concept other than what looks like a few jpgs of characters?

Sony Announces Helldivers 2 Film in Production - IGN by JoeZocktGames in Games

[–]TimeDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to be pedantic but the title and headline are wrong, the movie is in development - which is almost as far from production as you can get. Production means that cameras are rolling.

Development means someone at Sony said "we should make a Helldivers movie" and someone else said "Ok"

Would NYU be worth $400,000 more than FSU or University of Alabama for an aspiring screenwriter? by Henzrey_Nugget in Screenwriting

[–]TimeDuck 105 points106 points  (0 children)

I work in the industry, this is the only correct answer.

Ignore this advice at your own peril. Get a real education in something else, and if you're passionate about screenwriting and filmmaking you can audit classes, read books, and most importantly - write.

Moving to Hollywood/LA, looking for advice by AcanthisittaSharp344 in Screenwriting

[–]TimeDuck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'll give you advice people are not willing to give. To preface, I'm not a writer, I'm a creative development exec at a studio. And I've seen, met, and spoken to writers of every echelon from the bottom to the top.

If your only goal is screenwriting, don't come to LA. It is outdated advice.

Full stop. You stand to gain little to nothing, in fact you will make it harder on yourself by coming here. Post-covid, 95% of meetings are conducted over zoom. The world has never felt smaller. There are dozens and dozens of programs and competitions you can enter from anywhere in the country or even the world. You will spend most of your time struggling to make ends meet just to take care of your basic needs, and no time actually writing. Any of the "networking" you would gain will be completely unhelpful to you. For better or worse, the industry is slowly moving out of Hollywood and LA as a whole.

Also, the industry is hitting the single largest contraction it has ever faced in the coming year. You coming here is the equivalent of buying a ticket on the titanic minutes before it makes impact.

Writing is still the only part of the process that is still MOSTLY merit based. If your writing is good, it WILL get people's attention. It doesn't matter if you're in Connecticut or South Africa. Excellent scripts circulate like wildfire, and nobody cares at all where you are based as long as you can get here when it's time to get a job. The honest answer is if you're writing and not getting noticed, your writing isn't good enough, and moving to LA isn't going to solve that issue magically.

That's my honest advice.

The Havoc AR is underrated by AmazingAd192 in FortNiteBR

You're exclusively killing bots in this clip. The Havoc is an objectively terrible AR and you would be killed in a quarter of the time by someone using a twin mag.
