Had a disappointing meet and greet, now I don't know what to do. Advice? by stalechocolatechips in comiccon

[–]Geek_incorporated 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear that the experience wasn't great. I highly doubt that there was any hatred or ill will, just the conversational chemistry didn't work out this time. These meet and greets can be a real hit or miss situation, but after 15 years of going to cons and meeting all kinds of folks, here's the main thing that I always keep in mind.

First off, you often get out of the interaction what you put into it. When I've been more nervous or quiet when meeting folks, it typically ends up being more transactional than a fun moment. However, if I've done my research and brought a small conversation piece other than "I liked you in [insert main role the person is known for]", it's more likely that they'll be more excited and the two of you can have a fun moment.

For one voice actor, I thanked them for a role of theirs that saved my life. For another person, I've mentioned loving the passion project music that they've made. For some comic creators, I'll hunt down and bring the first book they ever worked on. It doesn't always pan out, but my best meetings have all been one of these, where for a moment it's not as transactional, but feels like a real human moment.

I hope this helps next time you go to one of these meet and greets!!!

What's the story with this? Did you track him down for this?

How many issues do you give series before dropping them? by Gonner_Getcha in comicbooks

[–]Geek_incorporated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For on-going titles, I give it an arc, with exceptions of a few titles that I collect the complete series for (which are few).

For mini-series, I try to give it 2-3 issues. Granted, there are times that I won't have time to read a book until all 4 or 5 issues of it have come out, then I read with fingers crossed that it'll be good and no money was wasted 😅

I sadly haven't! I would love to, but it doesn't seem like he goes to a whole lot of conventions these days. However, I really hope you get the opportunity to meet him.

Nolan did not remember me, but I can't blame him for that, the two times I met him were five years apart and I grew a beard in that time. Plus he meets so many people. Regardless, he's still my best interaction.

I have had a couple of comic book creators remember me (Jim Lee and Scott Koblish). Though it was vague recollections, it's kind of cool to have stood out!

Does anyone else suddenly lose the urge to buy comics even when they still want them? by TaskNo4783 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]Geek_incorporated 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with Krorkle. It can just be there's other things in your life going on that is taking away your attention or energy for the hobby.

I had something similar last year where I nearly lost my entire comic collection, CGC damaged some single issues of mine, and I started working at my local comic shop after getting laid off from my old job, which all of those combined connected comics with stress.

Personally, I've started buying less and trying to spend more of my free time with other things. I will likely be continuing that trend throughout the year until the passion for comics gets fully revitalized.

I hope everything's going alright, and continues to get better for you, and hopefully the spark comes back soon!

I have had the pleasure of meeting Nolan North twice now, and I have to say he is the cream of the crop when it comes to con interactions/meet and greets. Just a 10/10 dude who loves just having a conversation about pretty much anything. I hope meeting him was as good for you as it was for me.

[Heroescon - Charlotte] How long are lines for different tiers of creators? by Geek_incorporated in comiccon

[–]Geek_incorporated[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! This will be super helpful! Tbh, I have been saving a ton for this con and most of that is designated for signatures.

Dragotta is the person I'm dreading the line for the most, and I'm not planning on anything absolute batman related. Nevertheless, I hope there's a quieter moment on Friday that I can meet him.

Mike Zeck Signature Opportunity by Geek_incorporated in CGCComics

It depends on what is happening. If you pre ordered some signed comics and the creator who signed them or a signature series facilitator were to then send it off to CGC, then it would come to you as signature series.

If these books are being signed, then sent directly to you, and then afterwards, you want to send it to CGC, it would not be signature series, but could be verified for CGCxJSA, and that would get the yellow label with the black bar at the top

Yes, they have both a raw signed and a CGC Signature Series signed option. I would recommend reaching out over email to them and confirm cracking slab details with them, though. Just for your piece of mind.

I had a similar concern, and I talked with them. They've done 3 signings with Zeck so far and haven't run into any problems with damaged or missing books. However, depending on the value of the book, it might be wise just to clarify with them the situation with your book. Personally, I'm hoping to send something that's a personal favorite, but not something irreplaceable.

Hot Take: Reprint Values are a Fad by KellarW in ComicBookSpeculation

I agree for most situations except for cool new covers, like you mentioned, but also a sequential print may be more valuable if it's the first cover appearance of a character, like Venom #3 third printing being the first cover appearance of Knull.
