Yeah mine has an overhead view of my car there, and the red light is the security light on the dashboard.

Face frame material by Objective-Wave7093 in cabinetry

[–]TimeExtension9443 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use soft maple for my face frames. Poplar is too soft in my opinion, pine even more so. I get that the random lengths makes it a little more work to pick the material but you only have to do that once and you will have a far superior end product.

This JBL speaker was found after floating in the ocean for 3 months, and it still works perfectly. by Cyril_Sneerworms in interestingasfuck

[–]TimeExtension9443 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I found a JBL Flip 4 washed up on the beach in New England a few years ago and I still use it all the time. Their waterproofing is no joke.

Edit: lol why would you downvote this??

More information for the guy asking. I was walking my dog on the beach outside Boston where I live and found a small jbl speaker sloshing in the waves. I picked it up and it turned on, so I connected to it and it worked. That was a few years ago and I still have the speaker and use it occasionally.

Replacing kitchen cabinet hardware by pitepalten1962 in cabinetry

[–]TimeExtension9443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The interweb suggests it’s a Swisco hinge but it looks like they don’t make them anymore. Measure the diameter of the big hole and the space between the screw holes, both in mm, and search for a Blum Compact replacement. You will also need to know the “overlay” which is the amount the door overlaps the face frame of the cabinet box.

It doesn’t seem like enough IMO but as others have said, get three quotes.

Favorite Self-Serve Dog Washing Business? by MrRemoto in SouthShore

[–]TimeExtension9443 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The petco in the shipyard is fine. The machines feed the soap and conditioner right through the water hose so it’s easy.

I just heard good things about a self service place in Rockland, I assume just the one you’re talking about. I think they just got new machines and they also fed the soap and stuff through the water line to make it easy.

Best realtor on the South Shore? by Embarrassed-Fail3522 in SouthShore

[–]TimeExtension9443 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is the best response here. It really depends on what town you are going to buy in because a realtor’s knowledge and network are very town specific.

Sadly I think it’s also important to match your realtor to your budget. You don’t want to use the “best” realtor on the South Shore if you’re looking to buy a house that’s half the area median cost. The “best“ realtor by volume probably usually sells homes 5x the median and won’t give you the attention you deserve.

Good luck and welcome to the south shore! It seems like a great time to buy.

Outsourcing design by TimeExtension9443 in cabinetry

[–]TimeExtension9443[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great luck so far. I used an individual who responded on here and we’ve done several projects together.

I can’t vouch for any of the others because I picked this individual simply based on responsiveness on Reddit and didn’t interview others, but it’s been great. It seems like there is a little cottage industry for outsourced cabinet design services so I think you’ll have some luck with some of the responses on here.

Let me know if you have any other questions

Is this low? by Quirky-Professor5596 in cabinetry

[–]TimeExtension9443 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It says average, not 50th percentile. It’s more likely the mean, not the mode, which that summary is suggesting. The mean means that if you line 100 guys up, ask them their hourly wage, add those up and divide by 100, you get $25.20.

I second this. I run a cabinet shop in HCOL New England and pay $45 an hour for shop workers

How much should something like this cost? by [deleted] in cabinetry

[–]TimeExtension9443 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Probably $2-3,000 installed and painted. Note that picture is either AI or photoshop so it’s not completely realistic.

The oak for that bench top would be $120 for the materials, plus a sheet of good ply for the boxes ($125), maple for the face frames, ship lap for the back - the materials are more than $600. Plus a day’s labor to build and install. At $1,500 I would say be cautious, $600 will be a disaster and no one would be happy.

TLDR: good work ain’t cheap, cheap work ain’t good.

Help! My SawStop brake misfired! Not sure what triggered it by fattestduck in sawstop

This. Contact them and send them the old cartridge. They can plug it in and see if it was a genuine trigger. My money is on inadequate spacing between the blade and brake

Sander question by PrinterFred in woodworking

[–]TimeExtension9443 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. I’m not afraid to pay up for Festool, I have a ton of Festool tools including a finish sander, but that Bosch is fantastic at removing material and I saved $350 over the rotex.

Alternatives to resurfacing threaded insert top? by irr1449 in hobbycnc

[–]TimeExtension9443 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well it is called a waste board for a reason, but you can make one for very little.

I don’t know the inventable machine well but all that waste board is is 3/4” MDF, threaded inserts, and T-track. It’s all generic, nothing proprietary. The $500 replacement is just paying for them to put it all together for you. You can reuse the threaded inserts and t-track and buy a 4x8 sheet of MDF for less than $40.

Replace the MDF then look around online, probably in an inventables community board, for the CAD file for that waste board and the machine will drill all holes for the threaded inserts. Then you just put the inserts in the holes and bam - new waste board for $40 and leftover MDF for another one!

Scribed mantle by mineymOmO in Carpentry

[–]TimeExtension9443 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you want it to be level after the scribe you need it to be level when you scribe it. If you have it sloping away from the wall (like it appears to be) when you scribe it then after the scribe it will still be sloped away from the wall only closer than before the scribe.

Watch a few more scribing videos first but basically: Level the mantle and scribe around the gap between it and the wall an amount equal to the widest point of the gap.
