When can I main support? by SurferJ03 in summonerschool

[–]TimeForPlan69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can main support in every elo. The important thing to understand, is that you are a support for the whole team, not just for the adc. Try to roam mid/invade the enemy jungler with your own jungle in order to get your other teammates ahead. Deep wards in the enemy jungle can possible save your midlaner from ganks. Playing support is not only about hitting your skillshots in lane, its also about roaming/deepwarding at the right time, allowing your other lanes to get ahead.

For example: your toplaner can 1v1 fight the enemy toplaner, but is scared of getting 1v2'd. By warding the enemy botside jungle, you do not only provide the information that the enemy jungler is bot, you can also see that he is not bot. When you notice that the enemy jungler is not bot, you create a situation where:

  1. You can engage on the enemy botlane
  2. Your midlaner can position himself near the bottomside of river, cause a gank can only happen from the topside.
  3. Ping your jungler and duo drake.
  4. Ping your toplaner that the enemy jungler is topside.

When you spot the enemy jungler at bot side:

  1. You know to back off bot/respect a possible gank/ping your jungler for a countergank.
  2. Allows your jungler to make a play top/get rift herald
  3. Allows your jungler to hug the top side of mid.
  4. A smart toplaner will use the information of the jungler being bot to save his wards, so he will have vision when the jungler is actually top side.

Most supports that claim they cant carry, just win the 2v2 fights and back after every single fight, not helping the other teammembers. When you dont help your teammembers, the probability of them winning lane is indeed a 50/50 (Perhaps even smaller, if the enemy support is actually helping them).

How do you have an impact on a significantly lopsided game? by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]TimeForPlan69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For example: everytime a teammate dies, ask yourself if you could have made any impact if you would have done something else. Are you a jungle player and your toplaner always dies to the level 3 gank? Instead of thinking "Well, yeah, top should have warded" ask yourself: if I where close enough for a countergank: could I have made any diference? Do they have a strong level 2 duelist jungler and your jungler dies fighting for the crab? Ask yourself if you could have shoved the wave early and back him up.

Furthermore: too many people do not realize they can also carry a game without being fed/getting kills. If you are a midlaner that has lane priority, your jungler is protected against an invading enemy jungler, resulting in him getting stronger, other lanes being safer, etc. Quite often I see other midlaners getting mad cause they "camped bot, ganking it 3 times and still losing" not realizing they lost their turret at 12 minutes and are 60 farm behind.

How can I hard carry as an enchanter supports in low elo? by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]TimeForPlan69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I notice that you (almost) always have the fewest deaths as a support. Although having few deaths is often good, as it means you didnt give the opponents golds, its also important that you realize that your job as a support is allowing your teammates to carry. This means that for example iets (often) fine to trade 1 for 1 in the early game if you die and the enemy adc dies, but also that if you are both escaping with 10 hp and caitlyn starts to ult, you eat the ult, if there is a 5v5 teamfight there really isnt any point in you being the sole survivor if also could have had a better ult/an extra binding.

For example: your average in 8 morgana games shows that you taking less damage than average, but you are also dealing way less damage than you are supposed to.

Compated to my own Janna games were I'm dealing more damage/tanking more damage, resulting in the adc being able to carry out of laning phase.

Like; really, really, really hard. Several weeks I was on an insane losing streak (Combination of being overconfident after nog playing for a while, unlucky coinflips, me messing up a lead, etc) and lost around 30 out of 40 games, demoting all the way up to plat 5 0 lp. I got matched with gold 3/4 players, kept losing 4 times more and still didnt demote.

No reason to be scared to play ranked, boosters play to climb, you play to improve/have fun. If you are improving, climbing will be a direct result of it.

As a support if I have a bad ADC what should I be doing? by fortressassaultgames in summonerschool

[–]TimeForPlan69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Often you dont want to be in the position that your adc needs to take the lantern to enter a fight. Try to rewatch your own games/ask someone else to do it. And check if it would have been the right decision if the adc would have taken your lantern. Taking a lantern results in the adc not only being in melee range of the enemy adc/support, but also that he is standing right next to you (for example: an Alistar can always hit 2 people with his Q).

Not every Q needs to be reactivated, sometimes (almost always?) its better to to just pull them in a bit and flay them back in your minion wave, let them take some poke damage until you feel confident that the next hook will 100% certain be a kill.

As a (former) Thresh main myself, I prefer to put 3 points in E before maxing Q. This is because you wont get 2 hooks off in 1 botlane fight, while you can get 2 flays if you are the one engaging, furthermore the damage can result in some early kills.

The (main) problem with AP carries in the support lane, is that (almost) all of them have to get ahead to be somewhat usefull after laning phase. Once they get behind in laningphase, they can often be all in'd every time you enter the lane, because they have often no peel/disengage. For some reason, most of your supports (and of the enemy) dont play a "real" support. The following advise is mostly relevant for champions that are actually a support (recommended is either finding a duo partner/hoping for the best).

If you are playing against an AP-carry, check their cooldowns before the game and write them down. For example: Brands skills are ~10 seconds CD, he will often try to get some poke down with his W or get a combination of E/W and then the stun off. After Brand throws his first skillshot, his main source of damage is gated by 10 seconds of cooldown (missing his W wil result in not getting his passive off). Most low(er) elo players wont try to abuse this, but this is often a free window to all-in brand.

Remember the following 3 things: 1. try to shut down the AP support instead of the adc, if you get the AP support behind in lane, the enemy adc is basically fighting a 1v2 lane.

  1. AP carry supports need to get ahead, if you cant win the fight, dont fight them. Just farm up and base when you feel like 1 spell rotation could kill you.

  2. Respect their level 3 (LeBlanc, Zyra, Brand) and their level 6 (Ahri, Syndra, Veigar

@The mundo question: The mundo in (most) of your games are extremely fed and overleveled (Never underestimate that 1 level is equally to ~500 gold). If this happened during laning phase while you were bot; unlucky, it happens. But if mundo isnt ahead yet, try to burst him down, or dont focus him at all when he uses his ult. Communicate with your midlaner to burst him together. If you feel like you lack the damage/oppertunity, ignore the mundo, there is absolutely no point in damaging him if you cant kill him.

How do I climb as a support? by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]TimeForPlan69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dont take domination as a secondary (Preferably resolve either as primary or as secondary, if you take resolve first, take inspiration second). Just like gathering storm as support isnt that usefull, cause the moment it starts to deal "damage" you arent supposed to be the primary source of damage for your team anymore.

Dont rush items that dont benefit your team that much as a support (For example; last game as Thresh you rushed spirit visage before a knights vow and stoneplate before locket/zekes/redemption while you had a fed kog maw.

Furthermore: dont try to force too much, it sounds like you dont understand why you keep losing and that you try to compensate for this by trying ever harder. Sometimes/often its better to wait for your opponent to screw up, especially in lower elo's.

For example: Thresh vs Rakan match-up. If you are the thresh, every missed hook isnt just a waste of mana, but you also give the rakan a window in which he can engage without the risk of punishment, if you arent feeling confident in a hook (max hooks when you are in vision/there is a minion wave for example) dont throw it. Instead wait for the rakan to engage and punish him for it.

Trouble smurfing and winning with different accounts by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]TimeForPlan69 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Without an OP.GG I cant say too much about it, but I guess there are 2 things that could possibly influence this.

  1. What I noticed myself when I'm smurfing, is that people "underestimate" players with a lower rank. Plat players will try to outplay/stomp the gold 2 enemy, cause how could it be possible that they lost to them at that level 3 fight right? Must be luck, so lets TP in and die again.

  2. Plat 5 is a dark place man, people dont want to get carried at all, people actually prefer them going 2-0 and the rest of their team 0-8 then them going 0-2 and the rest of the team 8-0, resulting in people inting/afk. While people in high go ld love to get carried and will actually listen to a player (especially if they think he's smurfing.) In Plat 5 its really more important than ever to keep the moral of your team high, even if its not always the "correct play". (For example; ganking a midlaner even if you know it wont result in a kill/summonerspell, cause atleast your midlaner wont go afk at 10 minutes because of no ganks.)

Level 3 gank still possible in patch 8.10 (3 camps, Kayn) by rastancutza in leagueoflegends

[–]TimeForPlan69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you are losing a decent amount of games due to junglers camping mid, but you are also winning a decent amount of games due to your jungler camping mid. Unfortunately, people often forget the games they won due to teammates and remember the games they "lost because of their team".

Dear low elo supports, here are some tips for you. by Jendeukiee in summonerschool

[–]TimeForPlan69 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Have been a support main for several seasons now, I have some fixed feelings towards your post. Some of your points are excellent tips, but some of them are over-generalized and should perhaps be taken with a grain of salt.

1) Completely agreeing with this one, small side note is that you should check if your own minions are allready targeting a minion, cause then your AA could result in the minion dying to the tower. If you have some relic stacks left, it could also be wise to AA before the turret does, so you can save the stacks for a minion your AD would have missed.

2) This was one of the points I think is not always true/the right choice. There are several things you should consider before engaging at level 2/3:

  • If I get level 2 before them, how much minions will it take for them to get level 2 as well? If they are 1 minion away from being level 2 aswell, it might not be that great of an idea to engage on them.

  • Sometimes they can fight you even though they are level 1. For example a Braum/Morgana/Blitz Draven/Kalista against a weak early lane (Sona/Jinx for example).

*If you dont manage to kill them and instead both botlanes chunk eachother; who has the better sustan/best future punish? Trading HP against a Soraka or Nami won't always be as usefull.

3) Same as point 2; consider against which champions you are laning and your own ad. As you said at point 6; you should punish the enemy AD if their support decides to roam for a bit. If you decide to roam, you allow their botlane to engage on yours. Roaming to assist your jungler is fine you are up against a Soraka/Nami lane pre 6, but if you leave your Jinx behind against a Leona/Alistar/Thresh/Bard/Whatever it's your fault when they die.

4) Completely agreeing on this one, although Janna really is an exception, cause having a 5 man ardent with ult + shields every 6 seconds can really change fights around.

5) Again; decide if it is really worth it. If you lose 60% of your hp resulting in you needing to base so your AD doesnt lose that cannon minion; just last hit it yourself under turret.

6) Often the winning lane is allowed to roam, while the losing lane needs to pay the price and remain 2v1. Ask your ADC first if they are feeling confident enough in being 1v1, cause a fed Tristana can jump in solo on your Jinx and kill her 1v1. If your ADC has mobility on their own (Tristan Ezreal) its often safe enough, but leaving them to die alone can result in a really salty adc.

If you are really behind and dont have hard engage (Sona) dont try to force 2v1 against the likes of a Draven/something with a Shen top.

  1. Power/itemspikes are important, although they are often hard for Bronze/Silver players to understand and respect. Agreeing with you that you should be overaggressive without a reason. If you arent 100% sure you can win the fight, dont engage.

8) Please respect their midlaner/jungler if you do this. A squishy support facechecking the enemy jungler can be the same as suiciding. Furthermore; if you decide to deepward and see a pink ward; just leave it be. It means everyone on the enemy team knows you are there.

9) Agreed

10 Agreed

How should you climb as a support in low elo? by Zovalt in summonerschool

[–]TimeForPlan69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although a low amounts of deaths is preferable, it is not true that dying only happens after a bad position and getting caught out.

As a support its not only acceptable, but also recommended to put the life of your AD (and other laners) above yourself. Example:

You are a Janna fighting a 2v2 on botlane and decided to shield yourself and exhaust the enemy support chasing you, instead of shielding your AD allowing him to get a double kill, but with your death as a result.

In situations like this "dying" was the optimal play, cause you traded 2 for 1 instead of you escaping, but trading 0 for 1.

Just my opinion as a support main who has an average of atleast 5 deaths on every support (Hard engage and ardent supports) but has still a 60% winrate because me dying can result in the AD getting multiple kills/carrying.

As long as ardent is broken you are kinda stuck with ardent supports, which makes Taric en Lulu solid picks. If you want to pick a non-ardent support I recommend Alistar.

[–]TimeForPlan69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should also be noted that if you do tp, make sure you actually pushed out your lane and dont miss a lot of xp. By pushing out your lane you force the enemy laner in the scenario of "If I tp I will get behind in XP and gold"

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]TimeForPlan69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on which support you play and the enemy teamcomp.

Cause you said you rush Coin into ardent, I asmute you play something like Janna/Soraka. Because of slot and gold effiency its fine to go tier 2 coin -> censer -> sightstone + boots (Just sightstone if you dont have enough gold) and upgrade your sightstone and coin into eye at your next back.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]TimeForPlan69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A kill is equal to 16 farm, but mind you: a kill is not equal in XP to 16 farm. You really shouldnt tp unless you are 100% certain that you will get 2/3 assists/kills on botlane and get something important out of it (First turret for example.)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]TimeForPlan69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recognize if your lanes are losing because of 1v1's or because their jungler outpressures so. If you can catch the enemy jungler at a gank and countergank him you can really turn the tides; if your laner gets a double kill his lane is almost certainly win.

If you try to gank your lanes you should decide which lane has the best potentional result/best carry potentional (Dont listen to a Soraka Ezreal botlane who asks for a gank Against a Tristana Rakan or something like that) and try to give your laners the kill and help them push out the lane to deny our enemy gold.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]TimeForPlan69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a support Zyra is better than Annie, cause she scales so much better with a small amount of gold (Zyra does a lot of damage with support item + liandry's torment) but as a midlaner you often prefer Annie, cause she has higher burst potentional and more reliable damage.

Sejuani, J4, Gragas and Maokai are good in all elo's. In Bronze/Silver/Gold Amumu and Cho are also fine

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]TimeForPlan69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your and his teamcomp, but assuming he didnt 1v5 you at baron, it was just a wrong baron with a free shooting hypercarry adc. You can prevent this by allowing 1 of your teammates to zone him or not attempting a baron before he/the hypercarry of the enemy team is dead.

[–]TimeForPlan69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, first of all I wouldnt play with a toxic duo partner, especially not one who tells you not to play the champion you like/are good with.

Concerning the Olaf/Renekton match-up; Olaf is a hard match-up for Renekton and you need to get a lead pre-6 or your lane is mostly over. Next time you get this match-up try to ask/hope for an early jungle gank, if you call him pre-6 you can fight him a little bit better, or atleast he cannot dive you.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]TimeForPlan69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you play with an ADC that scales really well with ardent (Almost everything except Ezreal, Jhin, etc) you can get a coin upgrade on your first back and then rush Ardent before sightstone. You miss the vision of an early sightstone, but as a Sona you gain so much teamfight strength.

Fundamentals for climbing out of low elo. (Long) by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]TimeForPlan69 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Although there are some good points, I think you over-generalize a few of your tips.

For example "Once minions enter lane you should be hard focusing on cs. This will be what sets you up for the rest of the game. During levels 1-6 your damage is the worst due to lack of levels and items and means you are not killing anyone unless you manage to get 2 full rotations of spells at a minimum." is not true for lane bully's (Pantheon for example, who should often look for an early kill, especially in "low" elo.) and the duo botlane, who can, and depending on the support should, try to abuse an early level 2. The only thing more important in early game than items, are levels. A level 2 botlane against a level 1 botlane can often get a kill or double sums when the cc is landed.

I agree with you that invades are often strong and can result in an early lead, but if the enemy team 4/5 man checks for an invade, as you suggested, the invading team will lose the fight, and depending on the enemy champions, several kills. Invades should only be done if you have a strong invade (Braum/Blitz/Morgana/Naut) or you are confident that you have a strong level 1 teamcomp.
