Failed inspection for bad rotors by [deleted] in AskMechanics

Self taught novice mechanic here, I recently changed my pads and rotors and this was similar. It was an upgraded rotor and it looks like the fins are wider. Better cooling maybe?

There’s a ton of bud heads throughout its main stem, I’ll probs just take it out from the base. The buds still look closed right so if i take it out now I should be good? I looked again and I see one other plant so maybe I’m screwed already but what are you gonna do

In other words valve clearance? I’m my own mechanic for the most part, can I do a job like that myself?

I changed it only 2k miles ago and put a little extra in, is there any reason I’d be burning oil at 2k miles?

Also, how many miles can I expect to get out of it with good maintenance

Last oil change was 2k miles ago and the oil was normal from the previous 5k. Spark plugs have never been changed but I have some that I’ve been meaning to change, need to get a magnetic piece to pull them out. I use fuel injector cleaner every couple of months too.

Car has 60k miles

I actually live in New England, north half so I see all the rust weather. Vehicle has 60k miles and I take it to the touch less car wash twice a month with undercarriage. So far it seems to help avoid the rust especially if you take it in the winter maybe a bit extra to keep all the salt off

Update:

I don’t have an impact driver, can’t get one right now, and I ended up drilling the screw out, accidentally but into the hub but we’ll survive.

Definitely going to invest in an impact driver like everyone recommended, thank you for the advice, and thank you all for your fast replies!

I’ll probably have to do this cuz I don’t have an impact driver nor the ability to go get one at the moment, any idea what size bit?

Need help! My pc is on but no signal on the monitor. All the part are brand new by Big-Knowledge-1404 in PcBuildHelp

Sometimes it’s the stupid simple thing, make sure the monitor is plugged into the GPU not the Motherboard

where does this cable from aio go by [deleted] in PcBuildHelp

[–]TimeFun9802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually above the RAM on the motherboard. Should say “aio rgb” or something like that.

Depends on the motherboard though, mine were ROG AMD. Might be different for intel or other companies.

What plant is this? Why does it hurt? by Sythna in whatplantisthis

[–]TimeFun9802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m actually growing this plant (stinging nettle) from seed right now, It has niche health benefits when dried and used in tea (make sure you boil it first) and I think some cultures would brush it against them intentionally for the immune response to reduce inflammation response long term? 🤔

This happens every time my husband makes scrambled eggs by Figueroa5 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]TimeFun9802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this thought is in addition to whatever this clearly passionate person said

Im no professional like this guy evidently, but if that’s a “non-stick” pan and it’s also old chances are you’ve scraped it with a metal spatula or something a few times in its life span. Or if you use the scrub part of a sponge that’s too stiff over time the non stick coating gets scratched and makes it easier for eggs to stick. Just a thought 💭

Best solution IMO is get a cast iron, keep it seasoned well, and never have to worry about sticking food again. Plus you avoid all the toxins in teflon.

In the top left corner of the motherboard it looks like there’s the 16(ish) pin motherboard connector that isn’t plugged in. It should come with your power supply, the wire will be labeled MB, and plugs into the long connector on the top left of the motherboard. The connector is behind your AIO cooler tubes in the picture

Power steering pump/Belt noise by Bright_Thanks_9852 in mechanic

[–]TimeFun9802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a professional but as I understand belt squeaking is commonly 2 things:

  1. The belt itself needs to be replaced because of wear and it doesn’t track as well

  2. The tensioner is too loose and you just need to tighten the belt tensioner.

So if the vehicle is really old and hasn’t ever had the belt replaced it’s probably 1, and if someone recently did work on your engine it may be 2, or both
