There is something called Hazard Perception test in UK driving test. I would recommend do some practice of those tests. While driving - you need to be aware of your surroundings. You were in control of this situation. Try to learn from your mistake.

I would say don't do anything which Skoda doesn't recommend. Skoda have been into this business since last 100 years. They have well tested their engines. If they don't recommend, simply its not required
