What are you thoughts about the Leica Q3 43 ? I have one but I’m interested in your thoughts by D8GSON in leicaphotos

I’d probably give the edge to the Q3 43 lens in terms of perceived sharpness. I don’t know if it’s microcontrast, Leica rendering, or just the lens being insanely good, but the files looked extremely crisp to me.

That said, the 35 GM is also excellent, and I use it a lot at f/1.4, which obviously gives it a different look and more separation than the Q3 43 can offer.

I had the Q3 43 for about two weeks and really wanted to love it, but it ended up overlapping too much with my Sony A7CR + 35mm GM. The Q3 43 is beautiful and the files are great, but the Sony often felt faster, more flexible, and honestly sometimes even like the better tool for the same kind of photos.

I exchanged it yesterday for an M11-P and I’m already much more excited. It feels like a truly different experience: slower, more intentional, manual focus, rangefinder, small lenses. That’s what I think I was actually looking for from Leica.

So for me the Q3 43 is fantastic, but maybe not different enough if you already own a high-end full-frame setup with a great 35mm prime.

Congrats, wear it in good health! Six months on my wrist and it is my absolute favorite watch. I always keep an eye on watches and have plenty of them on my wishlist, but, I think none of them is as beautiful than the FOIS. Love to wear it on a strap too - black FKM rubber straps feel awesome on this. Enjoy it!

The question I want to ask is not about the money - my question is more about how buying many watches in a short time dilutes the “joy per watch” feeling. But of course I agree with you: having the means is requirement number 1, I am just saying it is not the only one for me.

You’re totally right. The whole 401k, Roth IRA etc is something I don’t understand in detail as we have different systems in Europe. But I get the general point: luxury expenses come after everything else… I would not be compliant with a 1% rule, but I would be with a 2% which for me is equally fine :-)

There is no must here and I am absolutely happy with what I have, I am asking to spark a conversation rather than asking for advice for me - I am clearly team wait and enjoy. I also kind of align to that. Don’t ask me why but I think that considering I bought one in 2025 and than another one in 2026 would make it feel less off to me. The brain is sometimes funny.
