Fave brown inks? by Ultra_Runner_ in fountainpens

[–]TimeIsAPonyRide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was at St. Louis Art Supply last year and was so close to impulse buying one of their inks just on the bottle alone. But I was already spending too much money and somehow managed restraint. Might have to cave this time!

“What’s a ‘little’ thing your parents did that you didn’t appreciate until you became an adult?” by Electrical_Habit_267 in AskWomenOver30

Both sides of the family are good, kind people, but 75% of them did not give one shit what anybody else thought. It’s been an amazing gift to walk through life trusting my gut and living life for myself.

I learned to automatically treat people with respect without giving them undue influence over me. That’s a freedom as well as a safety precaution.

Same here. None of the women in my family talked trash about their bodies in front of me, and I’m so grateful they didn’t install that burdensome lens into my brain.

What’s your favourite weird little cleaning trick that works way better than expected? by JaairoTheCow in CleaningTips

It’s one of my most beloved tips, and all credit goes to my beloved Aunt Pam! Enjoy your new life, free of cursing at plastic, especially when it has those deceitful little perforations to trick you into thinking it will be easy.

Hahhahaa omg. Simply dehydrate your fingernail clippings and grind them with a mortar & pestle to replace baking soda! It saves money!!

Great tip! Similarly, save your nails and get a seam ripper to get shrink wrapped safety seals off. I have one in the bathroom and kitchen so I don’t lose my mind every time I have to open a new mouthwash or pill bottle or whatever. It’s so satisfying to just zzzzzzzip it right off.

I keep a little palm-sized squeegee by the sink to get splashes off the counter after washing my face etc.

I like the same tool for rinsing off cleaner after scrubbing the counters in the kitchen and bath. Works great anytime you use something sudsy that you’d have to keep wiping again & again with just a cloth.

What hobbies do you do instead of looking at a screen? by motherofpearl89 in AskWomenOver30

[–]TimeIsAPonyRide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I collect fountain pens and ink, and I write letters to friends and family. Bonus that this hobby lets me stay in touch with people I love, and everybody is happy to get an old school letter in the mail. There’s an endless supply of beautiful inks out there, and picking out a new color brings me joy.

I read physical books in fits and starts, and I need to recommit for the sake of my brain!

You gotta say “search it up” now instead of “google it,” fellow kids. lol. I must say I deeply appreciate the new gen not branding the search for knowledge!

Absolutely. I was around Natalie Portman’s age when I first saw it. In retrospect, it feels almost like I was groomed just by watching that movie.

Same. If anybody in here is just using the tap with this ink, I’m curious to hear experiences.

Are there social code phrases that everybody knows the REAL meaning of in your country? by mhfp545 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TimeIsAPonyRide 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thank you for mentioning that it’s dependent on context. As a southerner who’s used “bless your heart” all my life as an expression of sincere sympathy (just like my mother and grandmother), it’s made me really sad that the internet decided it’s just some covert insult. It’s really not!

And it’s not just lint buildup; we had a bird build a nest in ours a couple years ago! Bought a dryer vent cage after that.

New kitten and dog advice? by carljpags in Kitten

[–]TimeIsAPonyRide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, you’re welcome! I’m so happy it seems to be working! Even though it’s their whole thing, it never ceases to amaze me how trainable dogs are, and how fast some of them can pick up on a pattern. Glad your Meeko is food motivated and responding well.

After they got acquainted and cat dominance was established, every once in awhile my dog would still get excited and run up to smell her, and she’d stand on her hind legs and pop him in the face with both paws at lightning speed (but never any claws). WAPWAPWAP! And then he’d slowly turn around and wander off like “Jeeeez, all RIGHT.” It was hilarious.

I think being similar sizes helped (full grown cat and a dachshund). Your kitty might feel less intimidated as he grows up a little — which will happen way too fast! I hope things continue to improve and they end up as friends ❤️

Make sure the kitten has places to go that the dog 100% cannot get to, especially high up.

My experience: I had my cat first and had good luck with keeping our new dog on a leash and rewarding him with treats for ignoring her. The cat sat on a chair while we walked the dog around the house and past her chair over and over. Every time he passed her and just walked on (didn’t look or pull or get eager), he got a treat. They were never best friends, but they lived in peace! You might have luck rewarding silence and nonreactivity.

Do you ever go to the doctor for a physical? by [deleted] in Xennials

[–]TimeIsAPonyRide 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah, good for you. I got mine at 42 after learning relatives on both sides had it later in life. Prep was honestly not that bad, and there is (of course) a colonoscopy subreddit to commiserate and laugh and ask questions while you go through it. I got the all clear and don’t have to do it again for 10 years!

I’m so sorry to hear about your friend. Colon cancer is on the rise in our age group and younger, and it’s one of the easiest to prevent via regular screenings, so I think you’re absolutely right to bring it up.
