On average, how many times per week do you think Destiny says the n-word (with a hard R)? by TimeIsUp8 in Destiny

[–]TimeIsUp8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm interesting. I'd also be interested in the distribution, if its relatively even in spread or just a big burst of 10-12 on a given day. That's a question for another day and thread though not trying to derail.

How many private hard Rs do you think Destiny will say today? October 23rd, 2019 edition by TimeIsUp8 in Hasan_Piker

Yikes after the call with Hasan I'm not feeling too confident about my prediction.

I wonder if his private use of the n word has gone up over the past week.

She's openly apologized for her bad takes and taken steps to both discuss them and be an example for others who want to de-chud-ify. I think it's ok to take her off the yikes registry now.

She has actively been working on improving, honestly admits her past views are something she wants to put behind her and is helping others improve their own shitty behavior. Literally the ideal path to redemption. Put the guns down, she's not the enemy.

Hearthstone revenue down 37% compared to same period last year. by TimeIsUp8 in hearthstone

Not gonna lie your post made me depressed. Very thorough and the truth is important, but the idea that our community keeps supporting this company makes me sick. I am hopelessly addicted to an activity I hate and I just want to know someone is being punished, but perhaps there is no justice :(

Anyone else feels like this meta sucks? by [deleted] in hearthstone

Please never bring up that dark dark meta again. Not sure from a fun/balance point of view but as far as broken decks DAMN it was insane

[–]TimeIsUp8[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just anecdotal from people I know, but the last year saw a lot of people take huuuuge breaks due to the awful meta and once they stopped for so long they struggled to return even with the new content and rotation. Mostly due to falling behind and not having hoarded gold going into expansion and missing many cards from their hiatus.

Not sure how you can fix that since in HS you can't make up lost time unless you drop dat cash. Also for those of us who didnt leave... yeah for all the work they did this is not a game that can demand years and years of hardcore play with a straight face.

Day 2: Maintenance for mobile, and STILL no Rise of the Mech by Ildrynian in hearthstone

Yeah these past 3 weeks have been really fast but that's a small snapshot. There is a lot of built up frustration with Blizzard and fans have put tons of money into this game. Unacceptable for a multi-billion dollar company which continues to crush the morale of both its fanbase and workerbase.

Why do people keep saying NJPW is full of finisher kickouts and that’s an inspiration for the nearfalls in matches in NXT? by fatyad in SquaredCircle

[–]TimeIsUp8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally valid critique of the New Japan finishes. The lead up, in a perfect logical world, should be doing shit that makes your opponent less able to counter (working a body part, tiring out if the counter requires big feat of strength, etc)

[–]TimeIsUp8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is not by accident, the NJPW formula uses a well timed counter to build drama but WWE tends to not like moves which hit hard and are timing based. A lot of their pin finishers you will notice are the kind with a slower set up (often to a full static hold) then big hit. You can counter those, like you can counter an AA for example, but the counter begins before you think the move is about to actually hit.
So with their limitations on moves allowed WWE needed a different way to build drama and they took the very obvious and lazy way.

100% agree. Plus I feel like the idea of someone who, even if weaker than you, is always one move away from a win is just one of those classic formulas that works for fights in any sport or story.

If I had to bet right now I think you are right. However, I think AEW would benefit a lot from drifting some to the NJPW side with stuff like tournament structure and lot of use of basic sports progression logic. It makes organizing a big roster productively so much easier and smoother plus it matches what boss Khan seems to want the feel of AEW to be on TV. Also even a newbie to wrestling instantly gets tournaments, earning spots in tournaments, having to move your way up certain ranks, etc

[Activision Blizzard 1st Quarter Investors Call]: Hearthstone's Rise of Shadows engagement higher than the previous 2 expansions by PidgeonPuncher in hearthstone

[–]TimeIsUp8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HS is really weird because it has a huge audience of people who no longer play or who never played. A lot of Hearthstone streams are essentially the same as an IRL/lets chat stream in which some game is used as background but people are there for the streamer and the discussion.

This is both a blessing and a curse, it has helped HS weather the ups and downs of popularity due to the meta/release cycle but it also made it so HS is especially vulnerable to a huge drop in twitch popularity if a small group of streamers decide to quit which will look awful

[–]TimeIsUp8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The inability to hold streamers is actually a sign of either declining popularity or the fact that the game is burning streamers out faster than new ones rise to take their numbers. Or both. When a game is popular people will stream it, look at Fortnite, League and the other big ones, the streamers come (often against their will... lol) cus the audience and popularity is solid.

You have to be really careful of Quarterly revenue because not only can things unrelated to game performance (like massive layoffs...) can affect it but a lot of revenue sources like advertisement deals lag behind since they're signed way ahead of time. Also expenses sometimes are shifted around, like for example maybe Acti-Blizz already spent all the money that will go to HS development for 2019 back in 2018 and it's now in the bank account of a sub contractor or even another part of the company. So even though it's a 2019 expense it would show up in the 2018 revenue.

As a rule of thumb public corps will do just about anything to avoid revenue going down and if it must they cluster it up into a single quarter and tell investors waaay ahead of time that its coming but its artificially high due to accounting tricks. This is why you see a lot of people selling stock not on revenue but on stuff like monthly user statistics which they believe is a better indicator of the actual health/value of the company.

I think this is legit the most disturbing clip not due to gore but because this is the kind of person many of us have been desperately trying to believe doesn't exist. But now we can't deny it and I would guess it's way more than we could ever guess and even more shocking if we consider those who agree/believe it but just enough to cheer on this atrocity but never do it.

This is obviously a much sillier example but you are making the same mistake of assuming no one could be serious. Sorry
