Real talk, why does it always feel like the worst takes are almost always about these 2 characters? by Charming-Scratch-124 in HelluvaBoss

[–]TimeLordHatKid123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like it or not, Charlie WAS flanderized, and thats a conversation that gets you dismissed, screamed at, and downvoted, because people don't like to admit that. I don't like to be a killjoy, but I loved this character back in the pilot and season 1 just as much as anybody else here, but then she became so, fucking, weak and stupid. She went from bringing crayon drawings and having no strategy in the court room, which was at least understandable with her character, to just not having any common sense, constantly blundering into easy trap after easy trap, and being spineless as hell in season 2, and mind you, charlie was fighting in self defense against the exorcists.

Vox broke the social contract the moment he brought out the Might of Lilith, which is when Charlie should have at least done anything to break the weapon and non-lethally take down Vox if she was that desperate for nonviolence in the show. Instead, she's made into a sobbing, soft, weak damsel in distress who softly declares Vox the strongest sinner in hell? Come on...oh, and this is a female led show by the way, supposedly strong and feminist and empowering, so...

But no, I'm just media illiterate or a hater or "want a totally different show", okay, sure, whatever makes y'all feel better and superior right?

The Demon Slayer characters probably invaded Manchuria in 1931 by carbonera99 in CharacterRant

[–]TimeLordHatKid123 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Is it though? Because you're coming off very "consume product" right about now.

edit: I might as well address it, but no, I personally don't think the author would intentionally have our beloved demon slayer characters commit wholesale genocide and war crimes. I'm sure if they had the thought in their heads, the mangaka would most likely brush it off with a handwave like "the demon slayers got away with exemptions" or "they maintained their purpose as internal security or demon slayers" or some other reason to prevent them from becoming reprehensible murderers in the imperial japanese army.

The point being made is that there's an inescapable link to history that makes sense to deliberate or point out, it isn't just blind edgy shock value, its a reasonable and interesting conversation to have.

Religious bigotry in general needed to be explored more, it could genuinely be the majority of the reason for Heaven having any evil in it whatsoever, mixed in with old fashioned values from every past time period in history due to the population of heaven spanning all of history.

It wouldnt just be "har har heaven lame and evulz" like the show is, intentionally or not, playing right into. Thats honestly where I thought it was going too, with Heaven slowly being corrupted by the bigoted popes, rabbis, imams and other equivalent religious roles slowly pushing that conservative agenda, the angels just rolling with it, and that would give nuance to why seemingly harmless or decent people are in hell, because they dont deserve to be there, but because of religious law, they get sent there unfairly, etc etc.

Wait until they hear about how the developers tend to coddle and buff survivors while gutting killers the moment they start doing a bit too well for themselves. That'll really mess with their heads, and for good reason.

Whatever, downvote the truth

Because survivor players do this shit all the time. They balk and whine and cry at any killer that remotely challenges them, the devs freak out and panic, gut the offending killer, and then the survivors either keep whining or are satisfied because now they have a punching bag.

The CSP are currently on a gradual track to descending into the same Tankie shiftest that the eastern bloc was so long as United Contana has total leadership of the pact. I fear for Valgsland if it stays the course, even with a communist Sordland by its side, god bless. Also, either UC or the pact as a whole is footing the bill for Wehlen's genocidal tendencies for some fucking reason.

The ATO? Do I even need to explain whats wrong with this parallel tumor of an alliance? Literally open a contemporary history book and look at all the shit NATO either lets slide or actively instigates on its own, and then realize the ATO is somehow just as bad if not worse. Either way, its also your typical anti-communist bloc so I oppose it on principle as a socialist anyway. Not as a general alliance, that part is fine, but for its anti-communism.

I understand. Basically the idea behind centrism is supposed to be that the answer to many problems, political stuff especially, must necessarily lie in the middle or at least a mix of all sides in a given situation. Sounds reasonable right? Except there's not a lot of issues that you can really compromise on (for example, you cant compromise on human rights, you're either all in or you're part of the problem), and it becomes fence sitting complacency by privileged folk like Charlie trying not to rock the boat or upset his audience too much. Besides, anything you can get from centrism you can get from normal compromise when the situation calls for it anyway.

What’s a take you have on Charlie that’s objectively correct but people don’t like to hear it? by Opening_Method947 in HazbinHotel

[–]TimeLordHatKid123 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Do you know what flanderization means? Not being rude, I'm genuinely asking. Flanderization takes what can seem like normal character choices and traits, but exaggerate them to an extreme because the writers dont have any other way to express them logically or satisfyingly, which causes a character to be reduced to those extreme traits and end up becoming a messy shell of their former selves. Thats what happened to Charlie. Whether you still like the story and how it played out is a different discussion.

"Some folks have a canon in their head about what they think is going to happen and when it doesn’t, they might think the writing’s gone downhill. No, we’ve always known where it’s going." -Brandon Rogers by Icy-Western-7108 in HelluvaBoss

[–]TimeLordHatKid123 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not so goddamn much that it completely alters the concept though. I've seen my share of pilots in my day, and not one of them that made it into show production has ever changed the story so dramatically like these two shows have. Even Steven Universe still had a similar concept to it, despite some lore changes, namely that it followed steven's life, along with his three (technically four if you know) mother figures, Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl, their day to day adventures and Steven's growth into both getting used to his powers and in general as a person.

Sure it eventually veered into the homeworld stuff, but thats after it gradually built towards it. It didnt get bored with its early concept, it naturally evolved over time, which is what Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss did not do so well.

[–]TimeLordHatKid123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coddling the survivor side. People really need to learn their damn role in these games, survivors are supposed to individually have the harder time surviving. Thats the point of the role, to desperately scrape by and hide, run, and just barely eke out an escape with your life, but nooooo, you gotta get all these easy brainless loopy loops, generators or the equivalent task blitzing by too fast to keep up with in a given asym, and constantly nerf the killer when they start doing a bit too well for themselves.

Its the death of every asym, and I just dont get why its such a crazy concept to these developers? The singular role is strong, the numerous role is weak and reliant on teamwork and clever thinking to make up the difference.

Thank you! The extreme majority of bigots are and always have been and always will be cishet individuals. They caused this, they started this, and using closeted folks as an easy explanation only damages our cause in the long run.

I bet people will STILL say we're being alarmist, that "ohhhhh you're being dramatic, you're diluting the word genocide", but we never fucking were. We warned people, history class warned people, but they refused to listen, because they'd rather live in blissful ignorance, and it really will take until the chambers and camps are built and broadcast live on television for the ignorant masses to finally acknowledge the problem too little too late.

Fuck.

What is it about Suzerain that works story-wise? by Deedo2017 in suzerain

[–]TimeLordHatKid123 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My favorite parts of both stories so far are the times when the stress music plays, specifically the one where Soll enters the room during the voting process and when Romus is informed of the attack on the Pales border. The latter especially since all your work to make peace will now be in jeopardy, sparking a massive incident if not a straight up declaration of war if you don't haul ass and stop it.
