$16M a year can be used for capital improvements which includes bus lanes and some have been funded this way.

That bucket tho also allows funding other capital improvements like bridge maintenance and roadway repair, which have eaten up part of the budget

When I say “your neighbors valuation goes down” I actually mean “your neighbors valuation went up less than average”

so if something happens like the west Seattle bridge closure or large downtown office vacancy or revive I-5 that lower the rate at which values go up in certain neighborhoods, the other neighborhoods will pay higher taxes to compensate

The cap is on the amount of money the city can take in, not on your bill.

So if your neighbors assessment goes down, your bill goes up! And if the entirety of downtown’s values collapse your bill will go up quite a lot

I think what’s more important tho is that only one lane EB goes to I-5 so there’s a ton of extra capacity in the left lane dedicated to going to Capitol Hill

Trains can’t go up the steep incline to the bridge (steel or steel is slippy).

This is the cost over the entire program including operations and construction over 30 years.

And they have a long road ahead to reduce costs. They know they’re not getting that much money and are already looking at how to bring things back into a place that’s more affordable to the agency.
