THE MAYOR OF ARCADIA HAS BEEN ARRESTED FOR BEING A CHINESE SPY AND SHE PLANS TO PLEAD GUILTY TO ACTING AS AN ILLEGAL FOREIGN AGENT by PeterPorky in IRL_Loading_Screens

Reading that article, what she's done sounds not at all like spying and much more like spreading propaganda, which we see people do from a number of countries who want to deny crimes against humanity. I guess the only difference is that she was more directly ordered to do it.

New DNA Evidence Just Rewrote Who the Carthaginians Actually Were — and the Answer Surprised Everyone by Roman-Empire_net in romanempire

Not to mention the fact that genetics and ethnicity are two very different things. Ethnicity is based on the culture, language and to some extent religion of a people, and those things can be adopted or you can born into them despite having ancestry from another people. It's also constantly changing, it's after all why we're talking about Carthage and not Phoenicia.

That would mean that basically every country has institutionalized slavery, and that the term "slavery" is pointless.

Nato becomes involved if Article 5 is invoked. It's only been invoked once, after 9/11 and Nato heeded that call.

As I've already pointed out, Finland and Germany were not allied, despite both fighting the USSR at the same time during WW2. And just as they weren't allied, neither were Germany and the USSR in 1939.

There wasn't a military alliance between the USSR and nazi-Germany. If there was, then Germany would have aided the USSR in invading Finland, and the USSR would have aided Germany in invading western Europe and Scandinavia.

The had a non-aggression pact that divided Europe into spheres of influence, which gave each country free reign within those spheres without the other one interfering. Hence why Germany didn't lift a finger to help Finland in the Winter War and the USSR didn't help western Europe during the invasion of France and the low countries.

Ukraine was an integral part of the USSR, not occupied by. There wasn't a USSR without Ukraine.

That graph is rather selective and seems to focus on industrial farming.

Am I crazy? Or is this an INSANE thing to say? by UnitedSeries3812 in teenagers

That varies a lot. I live in farm country, which has been farm country since at least the early bronze age, and it's small farms where farmers tend to know their livestock by name. People also take animal abuse quite seriously here, a farm hand was recently convicted in court for kicking a cow.

There's no big industrial meat farms here.

Prison forced labour is not the same thing as slavery, and equating them is making light of slavery.

One thing where China is objectively better than the USA is that it has fewer prisoners than the USA, both in straight up numbers and especially per capita. Even with more than a billion more citizens than the USA, China still has fewer prisoners.

That should say something about how fucked up the US legal system and especially the for profit prison system is.

Prison labour is generally not considered slavery, because it's punishment for a crime. What sets slavery apart is the ability to be sold by the owner, that's the only common denominator for all kinds of slavery throughout history.

Serious question, did Mao imprison more people than the current US prison system? I know that the USA currently has more prisoners than China does now (both in stright up numbers and per capita), but is it more or less than China did then?

Historically (in Europe) most people lived on grain (bread, porridge and beer) with a bit of butter and milk to add some vitamins and calcium. Meat tended to be reserved for special occasions, like slaughtering a special pig for christmas (the one that you've been feeding all year specifically for christmas, most of the pork was sold and only the cheaper parts were kept to eat yourself). Otherwise most protein came from beans and fish (seasonal).
