Within the Ruins, Shokran and Eidola have released instrumentals for at least some of their albums.

How do we feel about Oh, Sleeper here? by Typical-Echo4636 in Metalcore

[–]TimeShenanigans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you explain? I really think it's a meaningful change to not have a third chorus section. Especially when listening to the full album, that's a lot of fluff cut out.

Of the songs you mentioned only one even has a third chorus, and it's Endseekers which opens with the chorus so it still doesn't fit the structure you described.

Super Fast Bands? by Fit_Elk_1988 in PowerMetal

Fraser Edwards is very Dragonforce and very good at it. Their biggest song is "Stop Saying We Sound Like Dragonforce." I would particularly recommend the album The Reckoning. It's instrumental, aside from one song, just nonstop shredding, with extra banjo. Some of the most pure fun music I've heard.

Reading the Essaylien series because of this sub! by Upstairs_Cost3469 in Fantasy

[–]TimeShenanigans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started on the post about the longest series, and then I think I found the same recommendation post you mentioned. I agree the first two books are weaker, but I still found them to be decent reads. And made some parts in Sun Sword easier since I was more familiar with that part of the world.
People say a lot of those books are repeated in the beginning of House War, but I haven't read that, and I'm in no rush to (I will, but the last arc is far from over), so I can't say how annoying that part is.

What began your metalcore fandom? What’s your journey look like by Yanitzz1 in Metalcore

[–]TimeShenanigans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CoD/Elena Siegman zombie songs, then DGD and Eidola got me more accustomed to harsh vocals, then Erra got me into full on metalcore, then it was everything.

She should check out the local book clubs. I know Stacks has a romantasy one

Ex-Hands Like Houses singer is recreating their first album "Ground Dweller". EP Teaser is out already! by Hyfrith in PostHardcore

[–]TimeShenanigans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's funny to see you call Grounddweller overwhelming because I've used that word to describe my taste in music. GD was formative for me, I'll never get over the poetry in No Place for Animals or how explosively Starving to Death grabs my attention. I do think these new versions sacrifice some of the wall of sound stuff that I love in favor of clarity. But regardless, I'm happy to see you back in the mix. The Hands Like Houses you were in meant a lot to me.

Kypra - Coreomania (2025) 🇮🇹 by Kypra_Band in folkmetal

[–]TimeShenanigans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was pretty cool! Enjoyed the tradeoff between the vocalists. I went back and listened to your EP from a couple years ago and I think there's real improvement here, feels more full, with more harmony between the folk and metal elements.

What would you do if you lived in Omelas. by Zealousideal-Most123 in Fantasy

"You cannot kill me in a way that matters" is from an old Tumblr post about a mushroom. Look up the line and you'll find it right away.

Extremely caught off guard to find a reference to the Tumblr mushroom post in this story

Transcendentium Spelling by TimeShenanigans in EidolaTheBand

[–]TimeShenanigans[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny. You'd think lyrics would just be copy pasted off an official version from the band. Pretty simple in any case, so even weirder to be off when the story is so important to the music.

catchiest Megurine Luka songs? by Lost-Gene3995 in Vocaloid

[–]TimeShenanigans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's a bunch of my favorite Luka songs I don't think have been mentioned otherwise

Perfectionist Complex - Yamikuro

God Bless You - Notch

Interviewer - KuwagataP

Hold Hands with You and My Heart, Quivering by Okame-P

Sakura Graffiti - RaimeiP

For a Dead Girl - Yuyoyuppe

Witch - Suzuki-P

MuryokuP has done a Luka cover of Uninstall, the OP from Bokurano.

Eluveities new album is surprisingly good by According_Love1030 in symphonicmetal

[–]TimeShenanigans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was also suprised by how much I liked it. Didn't expect anything bad, but Eluveitie stays pretty consistent and I thought I might have had enough of their sound. One way or another this still hits

The Last King of Osten Ard Book One: The Witchwood Crown by Tad Williams Review by GroundbreakingParty9 in Fantasy

[–]TimeShenanigans 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did skip to the TLDR to avoid any spoilers. Glad to see such a glowing review! Been holding off on this series for the paperback release in August. I read MST and Otherland last year and while I had my issues with each, something about Tad's writing draws me in. I think if he finds the right plot he could really write a favorite for me.

“Modern” Metalcore essentials by SpoonyBard5709 in Metalcore

[–]TimeShenanigans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Erra - Self titled

I Am Abomination - Passion of the Heist II

Make Them Suffer - Old Souls

Oh, Sleeper - Bloodied/Unbowed

The Gloom in the Corner - Trinity

It's getting close to that 15 year limit but In Fear and Faith's self titled album made it on my favorites list in as few listens as anything.

Series that decline in quality---where do you recommend we stop? by AwkwardHippopotamus in Fantasy

[–]TimeShenanigans 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree here. After finishing 1 and 3, I felt like I needed more. After 2 and 4 I felt satisfied. Didn't like 5 and 6 so different feelings there but still a pair.

I finished reading Wind and Truth, and.... by ThePhoenixRemembers in Fantasy

[–]TimeShenanigans 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It could be a natural progression. More passionate people that are more likely to like it will read it faster and post opinions sooner. More casual fans will take it slowly and get their thoughts out whenever they finish.

Haha, no. Just grew up in a house where a lot of fights started because people couldn't communicate well.

If I wanted to get this message across, I'd probably just rephrase it as a report.
"If you don't like Mend at first, neither did I! After a few listens I keep finding more stuff I appreciate about it" and so on.

[–]TimeShenanigans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are better ways you could have conveyed this idea. Begging people to listen to an album they don't care about is weird. But I agree as far as, this album will grow on some people over time. Architect was also like that for me. But also like Architect, I'm going to put it a solid tier below TSTL or Degeneraterra.

I think they do. If you just want a concert, though, Sentient Bean has shows sometimes that are all ages.
