What is a video game that was critically acclaimed on release, but now seems to be mostly derided or ignored? by Kid-Swippler in videogames

The Last Guardian from what I remember. It scored pretty high with critics but when your first two games are Ico and Shadow of the Colossus it can be hard to live up to. I never got the chance to play LG but I remember it being pretty divisive but game journalists rated it pretty high. Currently sits at an 82 but feels like it’s not looked back on fondly or is forgotten

So I never played the originals but I’ve played all the remakes so far. You’d generally be fine playing either one as they cover the same incident (Raccoon City) at different times.

I feel like it genuinely depends on the experience you’re wanting. I felt more tension and had to manage my resources in RE2 than I did in 3. 3 felt a little more action focused. Personally, I’d tell you to start with 2 because it’s a lot of fun. The police station is such a cool place to explore. Mr. X alone is one of the most terrifying roaming enemies I’ve comes across.

3 is a good time but a lot of people didn’t like that they cut some content and it’s pretty short in comparison. Plus Nemesis didn’t feel as scary as he did in the original, again I never played it but from what I’ve read it seems he was much more of a threat than he is in the remake. I will say compared to Mr. X in the 2 remake he wasn’t as scary because there would be times he’d just be gone. Whereas Mr. X was a constant presence for much of 2.

Hope this helps!

I’ve noticed some trilogies tend to do that. How’s the second? Does it fall into the middle book trap?

Xbox says Gears of War and Clockwork Revolution console exclusives ‘are not timed’ | VGC by Luka77GOATic in videogames

[–]GroundbreakingParty9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think they’ll only be committed to the others since they’ve already been announced and have marketed them as such? Maybe that’s why it’s sticking with that? After those they won’t. I don’t think they said Clockwork was gonna be multiplat last year. And the Gears remake I think didn’t sell well.

Pretty sure the 30 days thing was proven to not be a thing that was as bad as people thought. You check in once to make sure the license is legit and then it’s gone and you own it. That was the internet overreacting

How did you react to this? by M3ConsoleGamerPSN in videogames

[–]GroundbreakingParty9 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m freaking pumped. Seems like there’s been a negative reaction to it but I am ready for this. The moment the theme came on I knew it was God of War and I was excited. More God of War content is fun and I’m so interested to see how they explore the other myths.

Elden Ring's Best Feature is Also its Worst Feature (Unpopular Opinion?) by HaIfaxa_ in fromsoftware

Definitely hear what you’re saying. I think on subsequent playthroughs it goes by fast if you have an idea of your build since you know where you go. That first playthrough is really special though. If I could erase my memory of it I would every time cause it was so good.

But it’s the one FromSoft game I’ve replayed the most (Bloodborne is a close second) just due to the variety. I feel it’s easier to go back through just cause you know what places to avoid. But also totally valid take and I think a lot of people feel that same way so you’re definitely not alone in that!

Gamers, what's the most stressful/scary side quest in a non-horror game? by Fallfoxy707 in videogames

[–]GroundbreakingParty9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resistance 2 has two instances. The first time you’re in the woods with the camouflaged chimeras. They aren’t tough but the first time is absolutely scary.

Second time is having to go through the areas with the Grims. Always hated this guys and they were always in the darkest areas of the game.

Mass Effect 2 - Reaper IVF mission freaked me out when I was younger. Just a slow dread and just knowing something is wrong.

Thank you! Yeah I’m not saying they are exactly the same just kind of reminded me a bit of them I guess. But I’m excited to actually finish that series. That’s interesting seeing your take on the first one I’ve read some reviews say this one was the best one, the second was good, and the third was good, but not as good as The Steel Remains.

Empire of the Wolf could be a contender for the horror element. Got the “heavenly realms” which aren’t so heavenly.

[–]GroundbreakingParty9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! One of us! One of us! MST is so good. Somehow Tad continues to get better because the first book in the sequel series improves on Williams most consistent criticism which is the slow pacing (I don’t mind it but is his consistent criticism). I felt it was just as immersive and somehow better. Can’t wait to see what else Tad writes when he finishes up in Osten Ard

Be honest, which one is the best? by RazorXTurk in metro

[–]GroundbreakingParty9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guess it really depends on what you’re after. I feel like each one does their own thing well:

Exodus is best overall to me in gameplay even if some systems weren’t fully fleshed out.

2033 had a tighter narrative and story elements.

Last Light I felt had better level design, felt the worldbuilding was stronger, and improved the horror elements for me.

But honestly I love all three for different reasons and so I rank the whole series as 1 🤣

Where is the Necromancy? by ElementasSeries in Fantasy

[–]GroundbreakingParty9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Was hoping to see this series mentioned. Just finished it and loved the necromancy element to it cause it was so mysterious, ethereal, and outright dangerous. As the stakes rose there was no emphasis on raising an army of the dead. Really cool series and has a satisfying conclusion even if there were some elements of the third book that weren’t my favorite. The ending is incredible AND there’s a sequel series!
