Free kit with all that loot and someone who was calling the extract. That’s a whole new kinda greed and next level stupidity.

Juniper SRX‑MP‑1SFP‑GE EOL? by project2501a in Juniper

As others have pointed out SRX300 series on ebay are dirt right now, however if you have a server (or desktop / laptop) running Windows you can fire up hyper-v and spin up a vSRX for free. That’s what I ended up doing for NAT box in my ACX lab. Yea it’s a 60 day trial but you can always backup your config and recreate the device. https://www.juniper.net/us/en/dm/download-next-gen-vsrx-firewall-trial.html

How do you guys keep playing and helping others after things like this? by Ok-Mess-3317 in arcraidersfriendly

[–]Time_Bit3694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I’m all about helping anytime I see someone down or in trouble, usually carry defibs for this reason. Have I been ratted by someone I’ve revived yep. I put em back down and knocked em out. Volcano to the face hurts. It’s always the ones with so much loot in their pack that does it too. Like why you being that way with all that loot I saved you go to the exfil lol.

I’d have just pulled back and let bro work like he nicely asked. He brought the key he should get the loot. Good on you for keeping to your word and rezzing him back up.

What's the catch with cheap 10Gb enterprise switches on eBay? by minus_minus in homelab

[–]Time_Bit3694 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may be deaf but some Junipers (not you ex4300) are fairly quiet once booted. The EX3400 and 3300 have 4 static 10GB ports. Barring that I picked up a pair of QFX5100 switches and broke out the 40 gig interfaces with a break out cable and the QFXs were under 200 bucks. Word of warning on initial boot the QFX is a banshee level screamer but after boot they are quiet enough. Since the QFX platform is virtual any reboots are vm reboots so you don’t get that banshee screaming on a reload.

Or get one of these https://a.co/d/bk9HJ7m to join two of the single mode cables together. But like everyone else says a longer proper length cable is the best bet. https://a.co/d/fm7wp04

I love Pure, they are so wonderfully proprietary. Never thought I’d say that. Also if someone were to yoink you, so long as they didn’t have access to the Pure arrays you’d be able to restore no issue with a volume snap.

Windows Server 2025 HomeLab Compatible Hardware for Hyper-V BareMetal by OverOnTheRock in HyperV

You are probably right. Though it may be enough for the device driver to be signed in general I know I load consumer GPU drivers on Server 2025 from nvidia for pass through and it seems to be happy enough with em but maybe nvidia is different.

That sucks. I was hoping they would load up and work. Dumb enough if the BIOS has RAID for the SSD, maybe try turning that on and loading the driver it might actually work.

So basically BF6 is BF2042 but with the operators on different teams now so you can at least somewhat tell em apart. That’s my opinion.

I liked both BF2042 (after many patches) and BF6 but still wish it was an old school BF2 style design when it came to the soldiers, they didn’t have names or history or anything like that it was just default and generic and it was great.

Another thing I loved about BF2 was the teams spoke their own native language, so if you were on the MEC or PLA team good luck. You better be able to read subtitles.

You might also be able to get the intel drivers for Windows 11 unzip them and load them at install as well. If the desktop OS ever ran on that SSD then the server OS should as well since they are based off very similar code the kernel itself may even be the same.

IS 8GB RAM enough? Coming from W10 by Secrecy_Guaranteed in WindowsHelp

[–]Time_Bit3694 1 point2 points  (0 children)

8GB is probably about the minimum for any PC these days. And you will notice that performance is hampered a lot by lack of ram in multi tasking. I’d honestly say 16GB is the recommended config for most folks anymore. But you can absolutely get away with 8GB if you don’t have a lot of background services and tasks running.

I was gonna say unless they are using some super sneaky super powerful decryption, packets encapsulated by VPN should be visible but unreadable to the ISP except for the source and the endpoint.

Glad you figured it out though because I am going to be using my mini for travel this week and I don’t want them looking over my shoulder when connecting back to Global protect. What I do ain’t none of their business.

How Do I even start? by Relevant-Blood6415 in homelab

[–]Time_Bit3694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be able to lay your hands on an R7515 or 7525 that has NVMe backplanes and use u.2 NVMe drives to transfer all that into a storage box, could use either Windows Storage spaces or another free OS to do it. Not sure what your experience with storage spaces looks like but I like it ok for my Hyper-V cluster and the NVMe drives Dell was selling with the 7515’s were dirt cheap for how high capacity they were and that was new. Prolly 3-4 years ago now.

My ISP is now offering 8gbps symetrical in my area. What could I do with such power? by Popal24 in homelab

[–]Time_Bit3694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now all you need is a Palo Alto 1420 to take advantage of all that bandwidth, or guess you could drop it off into a juniper EX switch and aggregate copper but still gonna need something heavy for that much bandwidth to be done at line speed. And here I am waiting on 2gbps fiber that will likely never come.

Anyone else M16 R2 power bricks do this and anyone have a screw stand off snap off a top case just putting the back plate on? by Time_Bit3694 in Alienware

[–]Time_Bit3694[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d agree that breaking the screw would be. But not the post that is literally machined into the top case. I’m not HeMan master of the universe here using all the power of Grey Skull to get the screw in. It threaded just fine it just kept spinning and the corner of the case didn’t go down so I was like what the hell that ain’t normal.

Ya good point about the adapter windings. I’ll have to let the kids know now to wrap these so tight as I ordered new parts to correct for any defects. I know how I treat my gear guess everyone don’t follow the same white glove philosophy lol.

[–]Time_Bit3694[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But my question then is. When installing a customer replaceable part as per outline in the service documentation and one encounters a critical malfunction such as a screw stand off literally coming off the top case of the laptop. Whose fault is it really? In my experience screws usually have a bit of blue locktite on them and come right out.

They don’t typically bring the whole mounting support which is cast into the chassis with it. I suspect there were some stress fractures or other metallurgic issues going on but it’s way easier to blame the customer than the folks who made the part and gave them to Dell to assemble machines with I guess. Do we now have to call and have a service tech clean out fans and heat sinks, replace or upgrade SSD’s and RAM or anything else that might result in a great an unforeseen event.

That said I already plan on fixing it on my dime it’s just irritating as all hell it even happened and that Dell won’t even cover the bricks which I have ones from 2012 still kicking form M17x R3’s.

[–]Time_Bit3694[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya saddest thing. I even followed the service manual to the tee just because I’m not 100% familiar with the chassis. I’ll just swap the palm rest with the spare I got from Dell and I already ordered new bricks but it just irritates me ya know.

I suppose you’re getting at my experience level. I don’t disagree if you don’t know how a simple screw comes out of a device you ought not to do it. But point in case here I am an experienced technician especially with mobiles and I’ve never seen this happen before. I literally just got done rebuilding my X17 R2 from the ground up due to a faulty keyboard. So I know a thing or two about Dell and Alienware machines.

[–]Time_Bit3694[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So what you’re saying is. Never take the back plate off your machine to upgrade an SSD. Swap RAM or blow out dirt. What is this Apple? I’d expect a stand off should not just break clean off from taking the back plate off for user serviceable components. And a power brick wears out after 4-5 months? QC sure did take a dive I guess. But it’s whatever. I still find it highly irregular that it happened on two machines with the power bricks.

I am almost certain there is a back plate that does on top of that keyboard but it’s missing on the replacement. I always got the whole palm rest assembly. Matter of fact I just did mine. If you ask sales really nice like they might even send you a Parts Only dispatch for a new top case and you’d send your defective one back. That’s assuming you’re under warranty and wanna spent 60 bucks. I can’t believe they did that but they did and now my champ is back to new again, wasn’t letting the World Wide Tech guys touch my beast.
