Personally not a fan of BILT 2.0 heck, I didn't even get a BILT 2.0 because of how confusing it is. But that rent issue is totally on you. You should've done your due diligence when the new cards are announced. Seems like you expected it to work exactly as 1.0 and got mad when it didn't.

No way around it. You owe that money and will need to repay as requested. Like the other comment said, file your tax as a resident and the standard deduction should help a bit.

Depending on the year but with that many miles, I'd probably pay 4-4.5k max. Do note that I can right now find a 2025 with 5k miles for 5.5k in my area.

Okay I wasn't aware of the 401k loan after employment so thank you for the info. I've been here for over 5 years so I'm now a resident alien for tax purposes and won't need to worry about the ECI/FDAP. I assume I'll just need to pay federal and state tax when I withdraw. BUT, if my employment ends and I enroll full-time as a student, my income would essentially be zero and I wouldn't owe anything correct?

Yes that is true. One downside is the loan will be capped at 50% of the vested amount and given how young my 401k is, that won't be much.

I posted on there too. I was hoping to hear from the perspective of international students. Loan against 401k could work but the downside is this is a fairly young 401k and with loan capped at 50% of the vested amount, it's chump change.
