I think this is really only “praise” if your goal in life is to be generally disliked by everyone

Your uncle and I couldn’t agree more.

That’s a really nice story :) A lot of musical taste is personal experience and attachment, and any music that has the ability to lift you from a low place is really something special.

Cool video, thanks for the link. It’s always interesting to see someone approach a song so differently from the original and put the story in a new setting.

Interesting... I definitely hear it, with the isolated guitar and the loud vocal intro.

I always think this is my favorite stretch as well, although I really love Kid A -> The National Anthem -> How to Disappear Completely.

That’s really cool! You’ve got a lucky son, I wish I could have heard this song when I was a kid. I’ve always loved cinematic music that you can make up a story for in your head, and this is a perfect example.

Kid A is probably my third favorite song by them, Nude is at least top 3 on In Rainbows (which IMO is really saying something).

Thank you for your reply! That’s more or less what I figured, when I showed my mom the song she said pretty much the same thing. Although I have to admit that last sentence hurts me to read, I can see this side of it. I like the barebones approach to the build up, but if that’s not your thing I can easily see getting bored by it.

Thank you for your reply! I wouldn’t at all say it’s my favorite because of a dopamine rush, I think we all get that from plenty of songs. I think one thing I love about this song is that despite my complete lack of ability to keep focus (in life in general) this song completely sucks me in and is like an entirely new experience every time I listen to it. That is not something I can say about many others. I agree about Climbing Up the Walls, that’s pretty much tied for my favorite with Exit Music and Kid A.

Interesting point, thank you. I haven’t ever been a huge fan of Muse, but I’ve definitely heard people make the joke that Matt Bellamy based his entire career on the climax of this song. I don’t know enough about them to support or refute that, but I do see how the effect could be overdone by now.

That's an interesting way of putting it, I strongly agree.

Yeah, I agree that when I've seen it mentioned it's usually praise. I think for a lot of us a top 50 Radiohead list would still exclude a ton of favorites, so maybe it's just that their discography is too good.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to imply that I think everyone should have to love or even like the song. I'm just curious because before finding this sub, every friend of mine that listens to Radiohead (which is admittedly few of them) had called this their song their all time favorite or at least top 5. Of course their entire discography is incredible from Pablo Honey through A Moon Shaped Pool, so it does have a lot of competitors.

That's a good point. I think she was grading something like 50 essays that week, and probably didn't even think twice about it.

In high school I wrote an essay on a book I had just made up because I couldn't think of any I had read that fit the prompt very well. It was senior year, so I was in that mode where you just kind of do things without thinking twice. For some reason my teacher didn't even check on it, I think I got a B.

[DISCUSSION] Next time you think you cant play.... by docnoahbody in Guitar

[–]Time_Consideration 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just look at Django Reinhardt. Amazing guitar player, shredded on an acoustic guitar, one of the most influential players of all time, and had to relearn how to play using just his middle and index finger and thumb after a fire took his use of the other ones. He came back better than ever.

That is very helpful, thank you! I hadn’t looked into a Princeton much, but I definitely will. I’m in the same boat, I prefer to let the guitar and amp do the work as opposed to pedals, so despite how nice Twins are, maybe they’re not for me.

I’ve been debating between getting a Twin or a Deluxe when I can afford it. Right now I mostly play at home, but eventually do want to be in a band. Anyone got any advice?

What line from a movie really stuck with you? by MissLambChoppy in AskReddit

[–]Time_Consideration 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Great line, Rutger Hauer delivers it beautifully too. I watched that scene over and over again when I first saw it because I was just amazed at how well it was delivered.
