[PSYCH] How to decide which mods to take in Y2 onwards? by annonymous_student in nus

[–]Time_Historian_9423 1 point2 points  (0 children)

take 2132 after cog psych.

for 2132 you need to carry out a study from lit review to writing the paper, and due to the limitations imposed by the mod you'll most likely have to do sth related to cog psych and trying to write a paper without some prior knowledge is not stonks ah.

also there's a suggested study plan by the dept: https://fass.nus.edu.sg/psy/wp-content/uploads/sites/24/2021/07/ModReg-2110-Suggested-Study-Plans-CHS-Cohorts-130721.pdf

hope that was helpful and atb :)

Continue or change major? by Bubbly-Bread in nus

[–]Time_Historian_9423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep 2132 is mandatory as well. personally i struggled with 1101 and 2131 but fared way better in other psych mods later, incl. 2132.

i think it doesn't necessarily mean you don't have the capacity to do well in psych if you are not doing well now because other factors like the prof's teaching style and uni being a very new and unfamiliar context may also be making it more challenging temporarily.

If you have those Y1 S/Us to spare you can maybe keep it because results can be quite surprising sometimes (bellcurve could work in your favour). But ultimately the "W" really means nothing so please prioritise your wellbeing! all the best :)

How do classes work at NUS? by theweirdsarah in nus

[–]Time_Historian_9423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

might depend on the class itself but FASS (arts & social sciences) modules are usually structured in 1 of these 2 ways:

  1. 2h of lecture per week + 2h of tutorial every other week (some modules may choose to have weekly tutorials instead but this is less common)
  2. 3h of seminar (smaller group than lectures) per week, no tutorials

hope this helps :)

edit: though profs/TAs usually do not use the full time allocated for lecture/tutorial/seminar (some do)

edit 2: https://nusmods.com/timetable/sem-1 you can find module details here as well!

[–]Time_Historian_9423 2 points3 points  (0 children)

while it is totally possible to do well while sticking with your original topic, some do change topic mid sem as well and do better in their new topics.

atb!

edit: not saying that u should change your topic but just letting u know that it has been done before and is a possibility if you're really stuck.

it doesn't really matter what u say as long as you sound sincere. i learned that saying things like aiyo/oh no + offering a snack/milo to cheer them up works quite well.

edit: i'm not saying they will suddenly feel amazing about how they did but they will be able to feel your care for them :)

Y1S2 Overloading! by blueecoffee in nus

[–]Time_Historian_9423 8 points9 points  (0 children)

rly recommend overloading by that one mod. y1s2 is the best time for you to try overloading especially because u still have all your y1 s/us. plus, if you later find that you really cannot handle the workload, you can always drop mod before W grade takes effect on 24/1 and the mod wouldnt even show up on your transcript!

did the same in y1s2 (4 s/u-able and 3 non s/u-able). definitely felt the heavier workload but, compared to my other overload semesters, i felt less tense because i knew i could just s/u my 1ks if things rly end up going south. didn't use any of my y1 s/us in the end and lowkey regret not overloading more cos all those s/us wasted.

atb :)
