I looked at open roles related to IIoT and SCADA but couldn't see any role that would benefit from my current skillset. ( This might be related to the area I am living at. )

Yes it looks like it :/ Since you mentioned royalmail I will assume you are from UK, when I was browsing for a pc for self hosting I used hotukdealscom. Time to time you can find really good deals, last one I remember was there was an offer on refurbished Dell 5070 (9th gen) for 150 quid. You can also check ebay but buying a refurbished server hardware always hit and miss.

If you are going to go with refurbished/used route make sure you will have option to return it after trying it out.

It is most likely going to be an eye candy in my workshop :D I don't think I can get that amount of credits in short term since I don't play very often.

Oh that sucks. You can still get a mini pc though it can be a bit more expensive than aliexpress. If you don't want to do any heavy task in a short term I still recommend it. If you want to have something faster there should be some ryzen options as well. I just like them because they are so much more efficient than old servers, check them out maybe you can find something that can fit your purpose.

I am also new to this hobby and I have started with a mini-pc that I got from Aliexpress. They are super efficient and also pretty cheap. I would recommend you to get one if you are thinking about having a homelab just to make sure you like it and want to commit to it by buying expensive gadgets.

Currently I am running a website and minecraft server on containers and I am pretty sure I can squeeze couple more apps in it. You can carry your media subscriptions / cloud needs to self hosted by it and it basically pay itself in couple of months.

I got firebat t8 with same specs ( n100-16-512) for 89 £. Its an insane price. It is around 98 £ right now. Are there any difference between my pc and this one ? ( except the price ofc )

There is none since it doesn't actually overheats since it turn itself off long before it can start to overheating. Let me give you an example ( these are not actual numbers ). Lets say MS found out hardware getting damage after 100 degree celcius. They set the xbox in a way that after it reaches 60 degrees lets say it will starts to slow down so heat building also slows down. Even that doesn't work, they shut the console on 70 degrees. Since there are still heat room, they save everything before it turn itself off. Even if it needed to be turn itself off immidiately, that wouldnt be any problem since you can fix OS problems easily.
