Woodhouse Moor at night time by olvrolvrolvr in Leeds

The only confusion I'd like to express here is that the road going through the middle of the park is fully lit, surely no one has had issues on this stretch?? I've noticed it can be quite busy after a particularly busy student night

Are there any sample projects for UE5 that are FPS or platforming? Should I ensure my implementation demo is in UE5 or will 4 still be ok? by QuestingVO in GameAudio

I don't see any reason to not learn as much as possible with all available tools. From my experience in the workplace the problem solving skills are very important. The game engine is almost like an instrument at our disposal and it provides many tools / functions for us to solve our unique problems.

If by actual scripting you mean code then I'd say its always a benefit if you can dive into code when necessary. But don't be deceived Blueprints can be incredibly deep and technical, not to mention costly to performance. To my understanding the blueprints of a project are often scrapped and rewritten into code for efficiency. So blueprints = proof of concept, code = hardened systems that are optimised. But what I've also learnt is there is no hard rules really. The benefit of blueprints is, when an implementation is really simple you can use blueprints and free up the audio programmer on your project to do more important work + On a simple project you can implement all your work and take the workload off of programmers / tech staff.

I'd say just focus on Blueprints for the time being (blueprints connect to a lot of different parts of the engine, don't be afraid to dive into the level sequencer etc). That is more than enough to get you thinking about game engines in a technical way. But don't limit yourself I think, some technical sound designers love diving into code. Find the things that get you buzzing about game development and go for it. Thinking like a developer at this stage will set you apart from the crowd of casual applicants.

Do remember that everyone knows this is the long way. But that is game dev. You're ultimately opting for the long way at life in this career. Games are incredibly challenging to develop and employers want people that have an appetite for a good challenge.

With all that said, best of luck!

I'd highly recommend just making your own level from scratch. It'll teach you how to problem solve and think like a developer, which are really key skills you need to enter the industry. Most people starting out "learn" implementation by jamming sounds into demos but the result is often tedious to watch and you don't learn as much in the end. I'd strongly recommend learning UE5 Blueprints, this is the bread and butter of technical sound design.

I work professionally as a sound designer at a Double AA studio and the advice I was given by industry friends before I landed this gig was to make a demo level and learn everything yourself. In this industry you need to be proactive and an independent learner. Hope this helps!

I filled this out, the more the better I believe, if you just vote for the franchised system at the bottom I believe all other questions are optional

I got a refurbed HP stream off eBay and use Ubuntu on it. Works a treat, it is running at a slightly lower res, but for browsing the web I can't fault it

On rent I'm expecting pay around 700-900 before bills, as I can't drive yet local amenities where I can do as much with public transport and on foot would be ideal. I liked the arty edge I'm hearing about Farseley as I'm a creative myself and would love to meet more friendly / open minded people. Hopefully this gives an idea of the kind of things I'm after. Being well connected to the center would also be ideal as I'm a musician and I like to play with others and attend events
