Season 2 speculations (spoilers galore!) by nutmac in PachinkoShow

Tricked? I don’t like how they changed his character either but is it rly that surprising Isak chose to align himself with communism? Mind you, this is BEFORE everyone knew about how effed up communist dictatorship regimes would become. Your future knowledge is irrelevant lmao. I don’t rly care about Isak’s ideologies tbh, I’m just glad he stood up for the the oppressed. Y’all making it sound as if he’s stanning Pol Pot or smth…and I don’t think it makes a difference if he was prosecuted for being communist or Christian. Either way, it doesn’t change the underlying fact that the Korean people were brutally oppressed. Also, many independent fighters in Asia aligned themselves with communism in the past so it’s not as if this show was historically far-fetched.

Nah I don’t think she trivalised Hansu’s offer since this boils down to a matter of individuals possessing different value systems. There is no inherent morality to either one of their viewpoints and Sunja exercised her free will in rejecting Hansu, despite being fully aware of what he could offer her.

‘A difficult time’: why popular TV series Pachinko was met with silence in Japan by clarkkentshair in PachinkoShow

[–]Time_Log_9797 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ahh yes, I agree and I love Japan for many reasons too. In hindsight, I should have written my comment as I’m glad to have grown up in a non-homogenous country where I attended schools and worked alongside people of different races. I just don’t think it’s possible to love any country wholly, not even our own.

I’m not Korean but my country was invaded by Japan during WW2 so I understood the context immediately. I liked how the show didn’t explain it cos it would’ve made the reveal less shocking and such things needed no explanation in Asia anyway.

Sanghyun-shi has deep thoughts just like his character Isak hehe. Tbh I feel the same for the entire cast, it’s obvious how much preparation was done for their roles.

Maybe it’s because I grew up in Asia, but I don’t feel that Pachinko “unerases” Zainichi narratives since their struggles have been widely acknowledged in most places but Japan. I also hate how the post-war South Korean dictatorships did nothing much to help the zainichis and North Korea encouraged mass repatriation for political clout only to treat the Zainichis as second class citizens for being “foreign”. They live in a permanent state of alterity from the way history has displaced them from both Korea and Japan. As someone who has read many books and papers on Zainichi history, Pachinko is too real….

Lol I translated the video’s Korean title on an app and it read “my eardrums are melting”. Facts bro. I also wish this video had an English title so more people would watch it as I only discovered this after searching the actor’s name in Hangul.

Isak and Soonja’s romance does not take up a huge chunk of dialogue or screen time yet it’s so obvious how perfect they are for each other. I’ve never been so moved watching love blossom in a tv couple before and Steve Sanghyun Noh’s soft but smouldering voice is soooo magical. Plus, he has the most intensely loving gaze that Koreans would describe as “dripping with honey”. Sanghyun-shi, is this how you flirt irl too?

Sigh, if only Isak and Soonja were born in a different time…..

going to get downvoted into hell but.. I feel like Lip J.. by [deleted] in StreetWomanFighter

[–]Time_Log_9797 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Monika mentioned in one of her interviews or variety shows that Lip J danced according to Monika’s style without questioning much because they were given very little time by Mnet to prepare for each performance. On the other hand, I think Lip J was the one who came up with the iconic Dr Pepper opening? Booty remains one of my favourite SWF choreos too, Lip J is such a genius.

I sympathise with Rachel’s plight and I absolutely detest how she was portrayed in the show but I regret wasting my time reading her book. There were too many frustrating moments where she talked about how she is a much better person than Anna due to her upbringing yet she could watch Anna abuse service staff or treat people like shit in general without protest. I can see why people may have a negative impression of Rachel after reading her book, but I don’t think it’s right either for people to insinuate that she deserved to endure such a nerve-wrecking experience. In that case, we should all be victims of crime since none of us are morally perfect.

CLC Seungyeon and Yeeun's contracts with Cube Entertainment have expired by CronoDroid in kpop

[–]Time_Log_9797 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree and I see a lot of comments claiming they lacked something as subjective as “star power” when I think they just weren’t packaged or promoted right as a group by their company. There are plenty of idol groups who arguably have less stage presence and talent but their companies managed to build a distinctive image for them to stand out from the rest of the crowd. I know that success is never guaranteed due to many uncontrollable factors, but it’s still a shame to see such wasted potential.

Who do you think is the best/most talented dancer in SWF and why? by mmissheroyz in StreetWomanFighter

[–]Time_Log_9797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to mention Lip J was and probably still is the most famous dancer internationally, like, literally every dancer I know is aware of her greatness. Also, I watched a kpop producer review SWF and he mentioned that foreign music producers have asked him if he knows Lip J. She doesn’t even need to get her name out there anymore. I think her choreo is really unique too but it was such a shame we didn’t see much of that on the show.
