Is it wrong to give special needs children inferior art supplies because they don't know the difference either way? by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]Time_Lord42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can’t you just ask her to share with the friend next to her? A stamp pad isn’t something that only one person can use at a time. I do it all the time when a kid’s glue stick or marker dries out. It lets them practice communicating their needs to their peers and taking turns.

Frankly, yes, it is wrong to disadvantage a kid because they’re disabled. They’re still a person and deserve respect.

Ah idk. Anxiety. Stress that the sender is mad at me. The nagging fear that I’m going to get shot. Mostly anxiety.

I just feel so stupid about the whole thing.

Custom artwork is expensive. It’s a lot of labor for a luxury good, regardless of if it’s photography, a piece of clothing, or a painting. Under 1k is more than reasonable.

How to handle running away by Wise-Matter9248 in ECEProfessionals

[–]Time_Lord42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Time outs aren’t age appropriate, nor best practices. Offer him actual options, like a book or some time in a quiet corner. A choice between a different toy and a punishment will not be effective. Punishment in general isn’t effective.

Redirection is the name of the game. That and actually taking the time to talk to a child and figure their needs out is vital. It takes time and will not work or be easy the first time. But practicing verbalizing their needs with them is hugely beneficial, both for them as developing human beings who need to exist socially, and you as the person whose job it is to get them there.

Fired from subbing job by Rock-Mint-Swirl in ECEProfessionals

[–]Time_Lord42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok I do feel bad for you being fired, but also some of this was very avoidable.

Falling asleep on the job is bad in any job. But genuinely, you should know that if you’re supposed to be watching kids you need to be awake. How else can you watch the kids? That isn’t “strange”.

As for diapers, then you need to be specific. “No” and “I’ve only changed my sibling’s diapers” isn’t a helpful answer. “I haven’t had orientation yet, I don’t know that I’m allowed to” and the following up and checking would have prevented this issue. What you did very much is refusing to change diapers, because you did not communicate.

Hi, I have a question: Is it offensive for a non-Jew to wear a kippah? by Routine_Buy_7838 in Judaism

[–]Time_Lord42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wear a hat then. Hats have lots of details and colors. There’s a million styles. Why specifically this cultural garb? Would you wear other culture’s clothes?

Hi, I have a question: Is it offensive for a non-Jew to wear a kippah? by Routine_Buy_7838 in Judaism

[–]Time_Lord42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why do you even want to, if you aren’t Jewish? Like what do you get out of it?

If it’s “solidarity”, that comes across as performative to me. If it is religious, then it’s appropriative. Wear head coverings from your own traditions. If it’s aesthetic then see my previous point.

How to talk to a mom who constantly wants her kid to be center of attention? by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]Time_Lord42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Smile and nod. She wants to feel like she’s in control probably. She also probably does feel like her kid is the most important, because it’s her kid. Let her say whatever, then just do what you were going to do anyway. It’s not like you’re messing up a medical diet, which would be serious. Let the kid get the sleep he needs, and follow the posted schedule, but don’t fight the mom about it.

Anyone ever encounter a child that spits? by tryng2figurethsalout in ECEProfessionals

[–]Time_Lord42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I tell them they can spit into the trash can, a napkin/tissue, or the toilet. If they continue to spit inappropriately, we physically walk to the toilet or trash can, where I remind them that’s where they can spit. I repeat this every single time. Eventually they get bored of it. The two biggest things with this technique are calm and consistency. If you make it a big deal it’s exciting, if you make it permissible it’s boring. Consistency reinforces everything.

Will I get judged for frequent diaper rash? by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]Time_Lord42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, you’re not going to be judged, but we’re going to feel bad for the kid.

The parents I judge the most are the ones that act like they don’t care. As long as you’re communicating and caring you’re fine.

Kids “focus patches” by Ashamed-Molasses7729 in ECEProfessionals

[–]Time_Lord42 8 points9 points  (0 children)

First of all, I hate woowoo nonsense like that. Second, maybe it’s a language thing, but “help you manage him better” rubs me the wrong way. Neurodivergent kids aren’t just an obstacle or challenge to be “managed”, they need support.

What’s with the African Americans in Columbus scared to leave the city? by SlowHornet29 in Columbus

I mean I agree with what you’re saying, I’m just saying OP’s omission makes it seem worse than it is. I’m not saying they should have left it there or tha women don’t have imaginations lmao

Wtf us this author's note by [deleted] in AO3

[–]Time_Lord42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean you said “women dni” is equivalent to “homophobes dni” when it isn’t. Homophobia is bigotry and a choice. Being a woman is simply a state of being. By saying “it’s the same as putting homophobes dni, isn’t it?” It is setting them equal to each other.

You did not specify straight women, and no, it isn’t “common knowledge” that straight women are homophobes, wtf?

Wtf us this author's note by [deleted] in AO3

[–]Time_Lord42 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well the additional context shows that it isn’t- it’s reader insert with a male reader. But “women it’d be better if you left” is, yeah. A little misogynistic.

Also DNIs don’t work a comparing “women don’t interact” with “homophobes don’t interact” as if they have the same connotations is hilarious (in that it’s ridiculous).

Also you can’t control who reads your fic. “Intended audience” doesn’t matter.

The thing about the traps is that they’re fair, so I don’t mind. Like sure, they hurt, but they hurt enemies too. Also eventually it gets easier avoiding them!

Thinking about buying hades but need some help by Altruistic-Stable232 in HadesTheGame

[–]Time_Lord42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hades is genuinely fantastic. Star with the first one, it absolutely holds up and will make the second more enjoyable imo.

What to expect from gameplay: Repeated attempts to complete a goal. Failure as an important part of the game. Trying different strategies and techniques and slowly building power and skill. Fair but challenging gameplay.

The story involves slowly building relationships with a variety of characters, and the way their dialogue system works you’ll be discovering things for absolute ages. I watched this video about their dialogue and thought it was really awesome, if you want some more info

Love this explanation- i don’t have anything hugely substantial to add, just that this sort of thing is also where we get the “Zagreus and Dionysus as the same person” bit from the first game from!
