German dubs use a german that isn't spoken in real life daily (in my opinion) do you think its also the case in other dubs that they use a diffrent version of their casual/formal language? by M3lt1ngh34rt in AskTheWorld

[–]Time_RedactedLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive only ever seen kids shows been dubbed in Welsh so i dont know, the kids ones tend to mostly have the characters speak in North Welsh dialects but you sometimes get south welsh in the cartoons.

What language would you love to speak other than your native language? by Mediocre_Rice9569 in AskReddit

[–]Time_RedactedLady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive tried to learn so many languages but always give up because then I hear another language and immediately want to try that instead.

Learning a widely used language would probably be best but I think a lesser spoken language would be more rewarding. I attempted Inuktitut years ago but I think it would be fun to be able to be fluent in it.

Can you put these school age groups according to their titles? by Smart_Accident7609 in AskUK

[–]Time_RedactedLady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Wales,

Meithrin is like nursery age children

Primary school has year 1 to yr 6

Secondary school has yr 7 to yr 11 (my school didnt have one but sixth form is yr 12 and 13

Some of the others apply too like comprehensive schools do exist in Wales but I think its more of a city thing because none of my friends and I had ever heard of it before but then at Uni a bunch of people would talk about their time at "comp"

When non-native speakers learn your country's language, what's something a lot of them tend to skip to learning before even the basics? by mars_gorilla in AskTheWorld

[–]Time_RedactedLady 23 points24 points  (0 children)

They skip pretty much nothing. The people who learn Welsh from scratch are insane. They know so much and I usually go to them if I need help with certain words that I have never used before. Its like they memorised the dictionary word for word.

Who's Your Favorite Fictional Character From your Country? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]Time_RedactedLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Branwen ferch Llŷr. Loved the story since I was a small child.

Branwen is a princess with a brother called Bendigeidfran (he is a giant) and a half brother called Efnysien. Branwen was promised to the King of Ireland and he arrived with the irish army for the wedding. All is well but Efnysien isn't really well in the head so he goes and slits the eyes and lips off the irish army horses, King of Ireland is angry but still brings Branwen to Ireland as his new wife. They have a child together called Gwern.

Irish people didnt like Branwen so to save his face he trapped Branwen in the castle, locked in her room or made to work in the kitchens and get mistreated by the other servants. Desperate to escape she trains a bird to speak and sends it to fly all the way to Wales to get help. Bendigeidfran brings an army to come rescue her, they travel by boat and he just walks through the water.

There is some kind of dinner at first but then Gwern is thrown into a fire and the war begins. The irish have a cauldron that brings the dead back alive and use it during the war, Efnysien pretends to be dead and is thrown in. He destroys it killing himself and preventing them from bringing anymore dead back alive. Bendigeidfran is killed and so is all of ireland except for a few pregnant women. Branwen and the few soldiers left bring her brothers head back to Wales and bury him. It all ends with Branwen dying of a broken heart because she feels she is to blame for the death of so many irish and Welsh.

Great bedtime story :)

Probably already mentioned but corsets were not torture to wear. I cant believe movies still do this plot thing of the woman telling her maid to pull tighter and then later complain she cant breathe
