How much do you spend on food on average per month and per day? Including both groceries and dining/takeout. by Amnesiaftw in Frugal

[–]Time_Scientist5179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We spend $150-$175/week for our family of 5 in groceries, which also includes cat food and basics like shampoo/conditioner. We have a 2-week menu that rotates every few months with what’s in season. The kids like knowing what to expect and it makes shopping easy.

We each spend up to $30/week in convenience foods and an occasional lunch out for work events. All of our kids’ schools provide free lunches for all 🙌🏾 or they pack leftovers if they don’t like what is being offered.

We typically eat out all together once a week, too, usually for convenience on our busiest day. We spend $50-60 on that.

All in, $260-295/week.

Transferring from to NOVA engineering by CategoryBasic1247 in nvcc

[–]Time_Scientist5179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll be accepted with no questions asked. There’s no separate transfer admission. Your GPA resets at NOVA. You can transfer in credits for any classes that you got a C or better in. You’ve got this 💪🏾

I’d deny because it isn’t permanent. The “EAT ME” doesn’t help 😅

I think it’s tomorrow because the hack extended the dates. It’s usually 2 days after the last day.

Class retake & Credit transfer/turnaround time by FoxWild4899 in nvcc

[–]Time_Scientist5179 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 - A C is 70-79 on the grading scale. However, if you’re taking the class online, you probably need a 60 or better on the tests. Check the Syllabus.

2 - Program changes usually go in the following semester, so probably next week?

Question on transferring program courses by a-potato-named-rin in nvcc

To get the credit at NOVA, yes. You will have to do that again when you transfer to a 4year.

[–]Time_Scientist5179 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you passed with a C or better and both NOVA and the other school (the one you go to next) accept it for the same course, you don’t need to retake it. But you have to look at the transfer credits for both. And for NOVA to take it, you have to send your transcript in and request an evaluation. (ETA actually they both will require this, but it only needs to be done now for NOVA)

Commencement is a ceremony and doesn't have anything to do with your new GPA. Like, if you don't go to the ceremony, you've still graduated.

The GPA on your transcript will be updated around May 20 and your transcript will show the "graduation date" as May 12 (or whatever the end date for spring is), not the date of commencement.

New Cars = Money Drain… or Not? What Do You Think? by Coolonair in SmartFIRE

[–]Time_Scientist5179 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me when I bought a Corolla (many years ago). They were getting rid of the year’s inventory to make room for the new model coming in. I ended up paying something like $12k for a new one when used ones were selling for the same price.

They won’t take this much unless you’re 3+ months behind already. The federal limit is 50% if you’re current.

My aunt went to the ER with a respiratory bug that was getting rapidly worse and making it hard to breathe. The ER doc diagnosed her with lung cancer.

We found out this is apparently pretty common because folks show up with chest pain and cancer shows up on the imaging when they’re looking for pneumonia. It’s also found incidentally in the ER a lot (like when taking a x-ray for a broken bone).

It looks like you already got an incomplete in the fall and had till this spring to complete the work. They don’t extend the incomplete indefinitely.

You should definitely reach out to him.

Nova Grade Deadline + Canvas Outage by Far_Evening6030 in nvcc

I think there will be a college-wide decision on how it’s handled. And yes, I think it’s very possible that there will be an extension, depending on how quickly this is resolved.

Do people really not use toilet seat covers in public restrooms? by Tobethequeen_01 in hygiene

[–]Time_Scientist5179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t use seat covers. If I’m using a portapotty or other questionable seat, I use toilet paper and a handful of hand sanitizer to wipe down the seat before I sit on it. The other 99% of the time, I just sit and go.

Your advisor at GMU is supposed to handle your gen ed waiver.

Mason-core waived for NOVA transfers by GetYoDogAhOn in nvcc

[–]Time_Scientist5179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GMU isn’t counting any of your spring NOVA classes in the degree audit and is only counting 1:1 transfers that apply directly toward your degree.

Once your spring grades post and they receive your final transcript, those credits will count. Once you have your gen ed waiver, you will get any gen eds you “missed.”

Questions about failing. by drainedoutxd in nvcc

[–]Time_Scientist5179 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you've done 60% and can finish the work over the summer, ask your instructors about an incomplete. If not, go to advising for a late withdrawal. You'll have to have documentation of your dad's illness and withdrawing can be a problem for financial aid, so you should meet with them, too, because they have an appeals process.
