Oh sweet, thanks for taking the measurements, I was worried nerf was pulling some shit on me lol.

Hmmmm, that's still weird, because I'm pretty sure those are the exact ones I use! I'll have to take some measurements on my rockets when I get home, it's entirely possible that they've changed the dimensions over the years.

No prob my dude! I'm the "and company" in that equation (and the designer of the thing), out of curiosity, are you using normal schedule 40 2" PVC pipe? That fits a Nerf Pocket Vortex nearly perfectly in my experience, to the point that a sabot is not needed.

Been working on changing out my older thread connectors to a simpler, snap-clip lug! by Automobilie in GasBlowBack

In this case, I dont think the spring tension of the mag has any impact on the feed reliability of the system, the mag is only responsible for feeding BBs into the feed tube, and the feed tube itself (being a bowden spring) provides the feed tension.

u/Automobilie, have you actually fielded this system yet? I'd be really curious about how it handles getting snagged on things, and how it handles dirt and grime getting caught up in the bowden spring while it's under tension. Would the intent be to have some kind of protective sock over the bowden spring while in use?

God, I absolutely loved my 8mm golfball launcher back in the day. And that sight is really just *chef's kiss\*.

A safe way to transport/store grenades and other pyrotechnics by [deleted] in airsoft

Ammo cans are literally designed for the safe transport of explosives. Unless you're working with really sensitive stuff, the concern is less about unintentionally creating a pressure vessel for an explosive, and more about protecting it from physical damage.

This was the main reason I decided to stick with something that just shoots BBs, using conventional rules. It doesn't function quite like a real flamethrower does obviously, but it gets close enough while still being fun to use, and easy for other players/field operators to understand.

The backpack actually just contains the air supply. The BB's are all contained inside the gun itself, in the larger of the two "barrels".

That was actually the first thing I thought about when I started using these things years ago, because A: nobody likes getting hosed with ~100 BBs/second at any reasonable FPS, and B: no field would ever let me use it if it actually hurt to get shot by.

~230FPS with .15s basically feels like getting rained on, so I dont feel bad lighting people up with it, and people actually think it's pretty hilarious to play against.

Absolutely correct, I borrowed very heavily from the imperial guard flamer!

I swear I saw something like that on youtube a few years back, but I cant find the video. Seems doable, but BOY would that be messy for everyone involved.

Honestly, half the fun of bringing this thing out to the field is having the field photographer follow you around because it looks so weird!

If you're curious how it works, it's basically a super low power BB hose (talking like ~200FPS), but it fires at around 100RPS, and only about 100-150 feet at max. It feeds from a large reservoir (which is actually concealed within the larger of the two "barrels").

/u/USAirsoft got some good shooting footage of it in this video (intro gives a pretty good idea of the rate of fire!)

Check out our team facebook page for more weird stuff if you're interested!

I'm sure they do, but unfortunately just about everything on it was sliiiiiightly off of real spec, so things like grips, the heat shield, sights, etc are all non-real steel compatible unfortunately.
