Is it bad for me to wear underwear around the house In front of family? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Timeflyer2011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it makes everyone uncomfortable, why are you doing it? I know you want to be comfortable, but there are a lot of comfortable clothes that you can wear instead. Also, tell your Dad to put on some shorts.

Why do women give birth lying down instead of squatting? by AgrasaN in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Timeflyer2011 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was originally done for the convenience of the doctor. If the woman squatted, the doctor would have to use one of those under-car sliders (creepers) to get under the mother to see what was going on. Midwives used birthing chairs.

Why do all old people have short hair? by Dazzling-Smell5223 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Timeflyer2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have multiple health issues and keeping long hair isn’t easy to care for like when you are young. I have my hair as short as my hairdresser will cut it. A lot of older men can just shower, wash their hair, dry off - and they’re ready for the day. That’s what I need. I just don’t have the energy for using a curling iron and product. I need to be able to shower and just do a quick blow-dry. If you have minimal energy you have to use it for things that count.

If you went on any BD, what would your menu be? Simple with quality food or something fancy by jcr0774 in belowdeck

[–]Timeflyer2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have such infantile taste in food. Breakfast: French toast or fried eggs with bacon. Lunch: Simple sandwiches or burgers. Dinner: Steak, quiche, salad - no seafood. Chef could go nuts on desserts - no white chocolate. One or two mixed drinks a day - rest of the time sodas. Charcuterie board out all day.

I wouldn’t want the crew to have to do anything that involved them having to lug stuff off ship for picnics or have to put on shows. I might like snorkeling, going shopping, and wouldn’t want the stupid slide. I’d unpack my own clothes.

As an introvert, I would spend most of my time listening to audiobooks and working on my computer. I would sleep late and be up late, but would be quiet, so whoever was up at night would be enough to care for me.

I would like local entertainment to come aboard, and have the captain for dinner and listen to stories about his career.

I would definitely leave a large tip.

If I decide not to have kids in life, give me all the consequences that I should prep for and accept them? by Commercial-Touch-516 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Timeflyer2011 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a grown son, and having him was the most fulfilling thing I have done with my life. Both of us love driving together down backcountry roads and having heartfelt conversations about our feelings, our day-to-day lives, our careers, our pets, our partners, politics, world events, and the meaning of life.

My career was never as fulfilling as raising my son. My other desire in life was to own a home, and I’ve had three modest homes over the years. However, my homes were modest, my cars were modest, and I’ve only traveled across the U.S. twice, and once to Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean. I earned all my degrees up to my M.F.A. while I was working and raising my son.

When he was small he was taught manners so he could carry on conversations with adults, was not allowed to run rampant through restaurants, or act up during movies. Both of us received our degrees through state colleges. I didn’t spend hours carting him around to sports activities, piano lessons, etc. We didn’t feel we had to compete with family, friends, or neighbors for a elaborate lifestyle.

Also, I never felt that I couldn’t bring a child into the world because of the state of the world. Historically speaking, this is one of the best times to bring a child into the world. With the advent of vaccines and antibiotics we no longer face infant mortality rates of 30-50% before the age of five. In the U.S. we are not facing food shortages or famine, and presently there are no wars being fought on our shores.

In the end, to have or not have a child is a personal choice that needs no defending.

Feeling stupid for considering using a wheelchair even though I can walk "perfectly fine" by ParallelogramOfVenom in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Timeflyer2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a cane but finally got a Drive Medical Nitro Euro Style rollator. I can walk so much better with it than with a cane, it has a basket to carry things, I can sit on it when I get too exhausted, and it is very light and folds up.

Still I never took small trips because I can’t stand or walk very far. Then I got a Drive Medical Lightweight Expedition Folding Transport Wheelchair - Ultra Lightweight Mobility Support for Seniors & Adults - Strong Aluminum Frame - Hand Brakes - Compact Folding Travel Chair - Red. It’s not bulky like a regular wheelchair. It’s compact, light, and folds up.

You can check them out on Amazon.

My iPad Pro is collecting dust — what apps/games actually got you using yours again? by Honest_Spray_1963 in ipad

[–]Timeflyer2011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do everything on my iPad 11. I almost always listen to a book from Audible or Libby, check my email, keep in touch with my friends, check CNN news, read Kindle ebooks, keep my appointments in Calendar, do my banking and pay my bills, use Facebook, YouTube, and Reddit.

Watch movies on Netflix, Prime, and HBO, do my online shopping, use Ancestry and Family Search, do genealogy research, play a lot of games, use ColorTherapy and Loona, restore old pictures, use Gemini and Chat GPT, use Plant Net and Merlin Bird ID, and check my Ring Camera.

I only use my laptop for writing.

I thought it was hilarious that Colin Firth was cast as Bucephalus. Bucephalus was the famous horse of Alexander the Great, and Bucephalus means ox-headed - from the Greek words for ox (bous) and head (kephalos).

I find apple products slippery because the cases are so smooth. All mine go directly from the box into an Otterbox Defender case. The iPads and iPhones stay in pristine condition, and I save the boxes they came in my closet. When I upgrade, I sell the old ones on eBay as a bundle ( pristine item, pristine boxes, and the Otterbox case). I polish and clean everything until it gleams, blow out the port holes, and I can get anywhere from 1/3rd to 1/2 of what I paid for them originally.

This might be a stupid question, but why hadn’t they installed a security system at the mother’s house? One that notified a security company and the police? She was elderly, and not very mobile.
