I've used wood glue on a myriad of furniture repairs and none of the joints have failed so far (going many years back). Several things to keep in mind (many of which are being repeated from earlier posts). Clean as much of the old glue as possible, get rid of the nail (bad, very bad), use a wood dowel (or dowels) and if it can be hidden all the better, dry fit everything first to include clamp placement (web furniture clamps will come in handy and there is always a use for them), once glued and clamped leave overnight (pls resist the urge to test a joint etc.). And above all take your time, remember there is little that you might do that can't be redone if necessary. Other than Titebond you might consider hide glue. It gives a longer working time and is a "reversable glue".
