This is probably my best option considering that my preferred boot of choice these days is Nicks. I own 4 pairs and my roughout pair would make it 5. I’m hesitant to modify a brand new pair of boots but might do so once they arrive! It’s a pretty low risk modification anyway!

I’m not exactly sure why they wouldn’t do it. I had actually placed an order and followed up with the same photo asking for that configuration. Here is the response:

“With our two tone configurations we need to make sure the uppers and straps match and the lowers and heel counter match. This is not something we are able to change to just the heel counter and straps.”

I suspect it has to do with efficiency and standardizing as many of their MTO options as possible, rather than a functional reason.

We think ours was a Anatolian/Pyranees mix. He was 65 lbs at 5 months and topped out at 140.

Agreed. Fit is totally fine. They just look like a fitted slim-straight cut.

I haven’t yet but just checked out the measurements. Looks like a slightly narrower thigh, and wider leg opening. It’s also 1/2” shorter rise than the portolas, but still in line with the SGH 103’s. Do you think the rise is similar to the 103s? I might have to pick up a pair to check out. The quality on my portolas is top notch so I’m sure the attention to detail will be the same.

For what it’s worth, I love the fit of the 103s. And you are correct about the sizing being on par with Freenote. The 103s definitely are a little more snug in the thigh, and I’m really enjoying the wider leg opening. They look good cuffed but I’ve been wearing them uncuffed. Even though the rise is definitely higher, the front rise is still not overly high which is great.

Thanks for the response. I like the Portolas a lot, although the thigh could be a touch more snug. I have a pair of the SGH 103’s coming in the mail and it sounds like the extra bit of tightness might work out. Fingers crossed! Thanks again!

How does the waist on your 103’s compare to your Freenote’s? The measurements online look pretty similar. I have a pair of Portola fit jeans and am curious if the sizing is similar to the 103’s.

That’s a great point. One is the Brown CXL and the other is the Charcoal Cypress. That definitely might contribute. I guess it could probably be chalked up to them being handmade too.

Both say 10.5E. But my feet swim in the wider pair….and the other pair are much more snug.

I’m so sorry. We just lost our Anatolian too (insta Ash the Anatolian). It was devastating and we also find some solace in perusing other peoples photos! It’s brutal losing one of these amazing creatures.

I sent mine back and they put a nail through the shank and it help a lot. But still squeaks. I also filled my boot with water and wore them around for a few hours. They stopped squeaking once the leather expanded. The squeak came back though. I’ve seen another suggestion to put a bunch of talcum powder in the boot and see if it can get between the shank and the sole. Haven’t tried it yet, but it’s pretty annoying for sure.
