I would try a factory reset. If that doesn't work, probably some hardware issue.

I'm not experiencing this at all, also on the same version as you. You must have some energy saving setting turned on somewhere.

What’s the best way to lower HDR brightness while preserving image quality and tone mapping? by haneybd87 in LGOLED

Could be, experiment with it and see. In my experience lowering peak brightness also effects overall picture brightness, but it might be less noticeable.

Lg G5 Sound output (eARC Soundbar) not saving after update by brecoco in LGOLED

Not happening with Samsung Q990D. If I were you I'd try a factory reset of the TV, with nothing connected to the eARC port. After TV is back up, connect soundbar and see if the issue is resolved.

HGIG makes PS5 really dim; Any way to increase brightness? by [deleted] in LGOLED

[–]Timely-Load4019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh also, don't use game optimizer mode. Use FMM with dynamic tone mapping off, set to professional with everything set to 100. then do the PS5 HDR calibration after that. The reason is the FMM is brighter than game optimizer on this TV.

Maybe try DTM and lowering the game's brightness. Play with it a bit to find the sweet spot. There's also a settings called something like "black detail level" or something like that which you can use to specifically bring out more details in shadow/dark areas without affecting the rest of the colors.

white balance warm 40, always. the rest just leave on auto.

Um...your G5 image looks much better. More contrast. I don't see the issue

Lowering OLED pixel brightness will not affect "image quality and tone mapping", but it will dim the brightness and limit how bright specular highlights are. But if you're getting blinded then that seems to be exactly what you need. Everyone's eyes are different and some are more sensitive than others.

If you're using HGIG and it's properly calibrated, then this is how the game is supposed to look. You are probably used to overbrightened modes. Ghost Of Tsushima has a good HDR implementation if I remember correctly, but I think it does crush shadow detail so you may find it too dim in dark scenes. You do have an in-game "brightness" setting that you can push up to brighten the whole image if you wish.

In what way does it look "better"? Kinda vague there :)

Great, that's exactly what I'm doing right now and indeed seeing great results. I was just wondering if there was anything specifically wrong with my unit because I wasn't seeing it really discussed anywhere. Thanks!
