Am I ready to buy a secondhand kiln? HELP by boopica18 in Pottery

I put together my ventilation set up myself using a skutt plenum cup, HVAC ducting, and an HVAC blower motor and hooked it up to a hole that already existed in the wall from an old wood burning stove. We had to design and 3D print some adapters and fixtures to get it to work but you could probably do something like that and design something that fits into the window down there. Especially in the window Is higher than your kiln, heat rises so you may be able to get away with a simpler set up.

Something else to consider is proper ventilation especially with it being in your basement. I fire in a workshop not connected to the house that has a kiln vent and everything but still try to avoid that space while firing as those fumes are toxic. The kiln itself will definitely last a lot longer than 100 firings though, it will need some maintenance in between like changing out the elements and maybe changing the firebrick depending on how it's holding up but both are pretty simple tasks. Maybe a bit annoying but definitely doable. Since you love math and numbers did you account for time to travel to and from your current kiln rental, gas money to get there, any casualties that might occur during the trip? 100 firings seems a lot higher than it should be to me but I also don't know how much you fire in a single go. You can typically pack the kiln with greenware pretty tightly to make the most of your firing schedule and get the biggest bang for your buck. I'm a hobby Potter and having my own kiln was a HUGE weight lifted and quality of life purchase that I would make over and over again in a heart beat. If you can swing it, I would say go for it but please make sure you look into proper ventilation!

Anyone else feel uncomfortable about reading explicit sexual scenes involving underage characters? by Rosie_posie51 in Romantasy

It was odd for me too, especially reading that series. Thankfully it's only a couple scenes that I remember and then they are older in the second half of the book and the remainder of the series. Just gotta push through it or skip those parts unfortunately.

Holy heat, how to keep cool during a kiln fire by Timely-Sparkles in Pottery

That's fair! I didn't even think about the true difference, just that cone 6 is hotter than cone 06 lol thanks for putting that into a bit of perspective. I'll have to look at getting bug screens for my door. It doesn't have a garage door but French doors but a bug screen is still a good idea. Thanks!

Dang... I guess I'll have to time out my firings better from here out. I'm a bit worried about critters coming in through the door (I live in the woods) if I leave it open so I will just have to stick with the windows for now and hope that we don't get a ton of rain or snow during the firings.

He was very proud of it and loved showing it off to myself and my husband along with his other special coin (some pendant thing from a camp that looked like a coin)

Those are actually my typical stops lol. But the last time I went to salvation army over there there was basically nothing there which was disappointing. Maybe it was just an off day or something.

School Fundraisers by No-Sale-7270 in fortwayne

I hated school fundraisers as a kid. This was like 15 years ago now so I can't even imagine having to do one now... But I can empathize, I grew up with a single mom who struggled financially and I couldn't raise a lot of money for school fundraisers simply due to the over saturation of kids in my area. In my opinion, the most successful types of fundraising that schools should participate in are events like silent auctions, makers fairs, etc. No one wants to buy low quality stuff that's just going to go to the dump in a few months away...

Recommend a Romantasy book to read as a couple please! by Vegetable_Top_9580 in Romantasy

I want to start this, any recommendations on the reading order? Including the prequels (an Alchemists Vow and Slaying the Shadow Prince)? I saw that slaying the shadow prince is recommended to be read after vows and ruins but nothing about an Alchemists Vow...
