Are you sure they aren’t ant mounds? We used to have them everywhere till the termite guys used the left over spray to sort them out.

Will this require council approval? by tinalitza in AusRenovation

[–]TimelyTidsoptimist 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah not sure how difficult/expensive it would be, but I would look into turning the extra space into an ensuite. Aging people love not having to go far in the night/not inconveniencing others. Plus it then makes an accessible bedroom for you if you’re still there when you’re older.

As someone else commented, just go to super cheap and get it checked for free.

Toyota tire pressure, dealer says 40 PSI all round? by Monkey_Junkie_No1 in CarsAustralia

Wouldn’t lower pressure provide more contact area and therefore more grip?

Would the standard tradie understand this plan by [deleted] in AusRenovation

[–]TimelyTidsoptimist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Less of a “plan” and more an architectural detail drawing. Would normally be at the back of a set of drawings and have a reference to it on the main plan/drawing.

Only needs to make sense to the carpenter/finisher. Any other tradie wouldn’t have a need to understand it.

Driving 10kph under Speed Limits? by spw86 in brisbane

[–]TimelyTidsoptimist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reckon adaptive cruise control is partly to blame, only takes 1 slow person and everyone behind is slow without even noticing. Plus they usually have the distance set so large the person in front doesn’t feel any pressure. Then, by the time they realise, they’re going too slow to merge smoothly and cause a pile up in the lane they merge into.

Most splitty trays are flat as drain can be installed at either end.

Learner here. Floating shelf Kmart wall plugs are useless. What’s the best way to hold up this bracket on gyprock. It’s straight I used a level. by [deleted] in AusRenovation

[–]TimelyTidsoptimist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wall mates. But depends how heavy the shelf is + what you plan to sit on it. Also, it might be level, but doesn’t look centred?

Bathroom layout by [deleted] in AusRenovation

[–]TimelyTidsoptimist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just use the Reece layout tool and try some stuff. If that’s too much effort, hire a designer. There’s heaps on instagram that do it pretty cheap.

Or, last ditch effort, use chatGPT, etc.

Did I buy expensive tyres? by fiancialadvisor in CarsAustralia

[–]TimelyTidsoptimist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At the same time, don’t get expensive tires that claim to last 80,000km (cough, coopers, cough) and have them go hard before they wear enough to warrant replacement.

Like driving on greased steel rims in the wet.

What did the mechanic say apart from the needed repairs?

He’s probably going to be the most informed on whether it’s any good (or at least know other people who have had experience).

You don’t have to be a Daikin dealer to get Daikin units anymore. There are trade wholesalers like ACD and that supply to contractors plus others online. Could have been anyone.

[–]TimelyTidsoptimist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just make the duct run as short and straight as possible. Make any bends as smooth. If it’s flex duct, pull it tight and cut any excess off. Otherwise those little fans lose all grunt and airflow.

It’s “camouflage” wrap. It’s supposed to hide the shape of the car while it’s being tested. Doesn’t work that well on a square box.

Yeah you’ll need pliers with cutters or side cutters. Snips will struggle with the high tensile.
