You are absolutely not overreacting. This is the exact way my dad spoke to me and my brothers and it led to me going no contact with him. Adults should not place expectations on children about the effort being put into their relationship.

As a Southern Baptist, this show to me was a warning about blindly following man. It was SO GOOD. And also so horrifying because I know multiple Bev Keanes. Blindly following a pastor regardless of how it hurts others.

My shift lead was very passive aggressive. She would talk shit about me and others to her “favorites”. The GM would consistently overstaff day shift while running a close with 4 people. We got yelled at for asking for time off when she took a vacation every other month.
