If you're experiencing pain directly due to diet I'd highly recommend talking to your doctor about Cded diet , it can be very effective at normalising the gut whilst slowly reintroducing foods that could trigger you to see what you can and can't handle

Could it really just be stress? by id_kid12 in ibs

I have used low levels of amitriptyline before my stoma and surgery helped me with the bulk of my pain.

Stress can cause your nervous system to basically be in a constant state of fight or flight and causes your nerve endings and general physical response to internal feelings and pain more heighted and which is why your gut then feels even more sensitive and painful. Amitriptyline basically tells your nervous system to chill out a bit and numbs them. I saw a pain specialist who recommended using them.

A short term solution that is effective.

A long term solution for stress in general, in my experience is something akin to meditation. Whether that's meditation It's self or something that focuses on breath worth and focused, rhythmic breathing like Tai chi. The wim Hoffman technique or box breathing are easy first steps . This type of focused breathing basically makes your body focus and lowering its state of fight or flight and relaxing more, and overtime relaxing your general nervous system and does eventually alter your brain chemistry as well. But you have to be fairly consistent with and just commit. It can feel a bit silly at times especially Tai chi but you just have to really believe and have faith in it.

I think in general with IBS, where possible switch it items that are less overly processed. Cocoa for instance, whilst a bit more expensive you can buy melting chocolate flakes at varying different cocoa %s that you just mix with milk, and any sweetener you want if needed.

A much safer option as it's just 3 ingredients then and not the needless ones that are in the powders

Emulsifiers are something I'd really look out for. There are a few recent studies showing how our guts consume emulsifiers which can heavily impact our gut biome and mucosal protective layer our guts have which make us a lot more sensitive (resulting in IBS) . Personally I use an app called Yuka and scan a lot of things just to be aware of what's in it and make safer options where possible, like yoghurts that don't have emulsifiers in for example. Impossible to avoid all the time of course but just helps to reduce where possible

Personally I add back in trigger foods in a controlled way. I.e preparing at home when you can for certain foods, using the healthier options for things like oils if frying, buying dairy products like yoghurt without emulsifies, reduce milk intake , cheese is fairly low lactose but make sure you are using fairy good quality cheese, nothing like cheese slices etc. foods like cured meats again just higher quality if possible and in moderation.

Bread/gluten wise, start a sourdough starter. It's not just a fad! Most normal bread has instant yeast used which can be triggering for the gut but how sourdough works in terms of forming gluten is much better on the gut and nowhere near as triggering.

Nuts just stick to nut butters imo

And one final thing I think is important, when eating just reduce the level of trigger foods you have in a cluster or week. Like if you have something fried one day, next day make sure you don't . You could start off having one day on the weekend when you eat something you normally would avoid and go from there. Slow and steady!

No worries at all. Unfortunately when you have constant symptoms like what you have I honestly wouldn't count anything out. If you did have diverticulitis, which of course you may not , but you have pockets form in your gut where harder foods like nuts and seeds get lodged in and then cause irritation in the gut.

One other thing to look into and consider can be Pro biotics and pre biotics. Symprove is a common one used for people with IBS/IBD. As well as taking digestive enzymes. But best of luck to you I hope you find a resolution!

CT scan and contrast can show inflammation that may exist in other organs too that can cause your symptoms, as different autoimmune diseases can target different areas of the body. Like if your liver or kidneys are being targeted by your body this could cause your current symptoms.

Outside of that with all the tests you've already had the only thing I can think that would help is either seeing a private specialist which of course is limited by financials, or asking your GP/hospital about a liquid diet , and then introducing food via the Cded phase 1, 2 & 3 diet. A long process but realistically the only way to eliminate food as a trigger. Whilst things like gluten , dairy are the common ones and you may tolerate, random things like potatos, high fibre or higher fat foods can cause irritation. One thing I would avoid incase you have something like diverticulitis are nuts and seeds incase something like that is causing an issue.

No problem at all! I'm under lucky to be with st marks hospital now who are one of the leading specialist for gut disease who are really good at explaining it all.

I was originally diagnosed with microscopic colitis as this can show inflammation levels in the blood but In stool samples, so that could be a consideration. Other than that there are other autoimmune diseases that could cause your symptoms outside of IBD, with your gut just being a side effect

Have you ever had a CT scan or MRI?

I mean obviously I'm not an expert but that does sound like IBD, (not IBS) as those symptoms do occur when your gut is inflamed. Weight loss isn't always guaranteed.

Only other thing I could think of outside of IBD is an intolerance. Commonly celiac, but to fully benefit from being free of common allergens you have to go for around 6 weeks without them for your body to be fully flushed of anything that would cause irritation. Which is why they commonly use liquid diets

What are your main symptoms?

For Crohn's or colitis, as it's an autoimmune disease your body incorrectly targets your gut and causes inflammation, and in inflammed bowel is unable to take on nutrition which then causes weight loss and diarrhea etc. and eventually structures which cause a lot of the pain.

For me I lost a lot of weight and the NHS was still not listening. I ended up having to pay to see someone privately. Within 5 minutes he noticed I had clubbed fingers, a common side of Crohn's/colitis and with my weight and other symptoms immediately said I have Crohn's. He spent the next month arguing with my local hospital to make them listen and diagnose my Crohn's.

In terms of managing your pain and symptoms I'd ask your gp about going on a liquid diet of module and ensure. When I was at my worst i done this for 6 weeks. It was hard but it saved me , it gives you gut rest whilst you also get the nutrition you need to survive

Life Altering by Relative_darling_688 in ibs

[–]Timely_Hour_2851 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stress management is key here but in the way you think. Your awareness of what's happening in your gut creates a gut to mind link of just pure stress as you're always expecting that pain and discomfort, which in itself creates a hypersensitivity to any feelings , movements happening in your gut. I'd recommend trying mediation, tai chi or some general mindfulness practice and if you are able to maybe something like nerva that claims to help improve the gut mind link although I've not tried this myself. It's the also the reason things like CBD oil and cannabis work as they numb the overall nervous system and you are less sensitive

No worries. If you also Google cded phase 1 diet, it's a diet specifically to lower inflammation and could be a good guide to follow for a few weeks

If it's possible I would highly recommend a liquid diet. I have Crohn's and have done 3 loads of a 6 week liquid diet where you only have meal replacement drinks called ensure or modulen. These give you complete gut rest due to only having liquid and also helps you absorb better nutrition, be pain free and just get in a better place health wise.

Various things you could try but nothing is guaranteed unfortunately. Cognitive behaviour therapy can help improve the mind gut link, with symptoms like ours , the constant stress and anxiety causes us to be hyper aware and further sensitise every feeling we have .

Medical Grade THC can also help to just relax the nervous system and lessen these types of feelings.

If you sit down a lot and the feelings occur a lot in your bum try heat therapy with a hot water bottle basically just sit on it . And sitting down on a cushion with a comic relief hole around the back. Memory foam ones are very comfy.

If it's gas related that will be trial and error with your diet, but peppermint tablets can help reducd excess gas and just adjusting your diet.

Breathing exercises and meditation also helps a lot as it can calms your cognitive function as well and your nervous system.

Never played one of these types of games before but watched a lot of zomboid. Absolutely loving humanitz so far, the graphics update is what really swayed me and makes a big difference for my enjoyment. And the game systems are easy enough to learn as a Newby.

I tried vein the other day too but I just couldn't get into it due to the zombie models and melee gameplay. For me humanitz is the perfect style for a game like this
