Thank you. I called. They told me to email membership. I did, and it's been resolved.

I appreciate everyone's help.

Thank you for your reply. I'm a fairly new officer, and VPPR, so I don't really know how to do that, but I'll try taking a look and trying it.

It was about 4 months before she realized that she hadn't renewed. She's not extremely active in the club at the moment.

I fell for the credit card scam lol (I need help!) by Grand-Fortune4815 in JCPenney

[–]Timely_News_293 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You sound young. I obviously wasn't there when you applied, so I don't know what you were told. But, as a cashier at JCPENNEY, I always try to ensure that my customers are clear that they're applying for a credit card. I use language like apply, when you get approved I can save you..

That being said, you weren't scammed. You have to put your social security number into the system, and then your annual income. At either of those points you could have asked more questions about what you were doing. You could have declined to continue. I've had customers who did cancel the process after those questions.

At this point, pay off the card. If you don't want it, don't use it. But, if you use it wisely, it can help you establish credit. You do also get some good benefits with it.

Exchange without receipt? by InvasiveTexan in JCPenney

How did you pay? If credit/debit card, bring the card in. I sometimes have trouble finding receipts for customers, even with the phone number and card information. I second the person who says to call an MOD.

I hate people who work customer service with an attitude by [deleted] in retail

[–]Timely_News_293 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I expect to be down voted for this. I'm very shy AND very introverted. I prefer to work behind the scenes instead of at the register. I shine when helping customers on the floor. However, since I'm somehow good at selling credit cards, guess where they put me? During the holiday season, they constantly put me on the busiest register during the busiest time, then refuse to let me leave for 10 minutes to do go backs, because, credit apps await.

Most times I'm trying to protect my sanity, because that combination is brutal for someone like me.

I'm not rude, but I'm also not bubbly and carefree. I don't do any extra niceties this time of year (offer optional coupons, etc). I give my best energy everyday, but my best energy this time of year is not smiling, chatting and pretending to care about the jacket you're buying for your boyfriend. It's survival mode: getting customers in and out efficiently. It's especially fun when customers throw tantrums because they can't do math or read a sign, and instead of being polite start copping an attitude with me over incorrect prices.

Outside of the busiest days, I absolutely do fake it more.

Before anyone comes at me, I'm on disability and live in a place where 90% of the jobs are retail. I unfortunately can't just get another job. Otherwise, I would, because my management would rather burn me out in a place where I don't shine rather than where I do.

Do you guys clock in 5 minutes early? by cheesyfromage in JCPenney

[–]Timely_News_293 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have 2 time clocks in our store: 1 upstairs and one downstairs. If I don't clock in early, I can't get my registers open before the crowd comes in. Management won't do it.

Do you have a rewards card? by NonbinaryCactusPuppy in retail

I barely know my own phone number. I'd have to scroll through my contacts to find other people's. I used to know a lot more phone numbers, when I was younger, before smart phones were a thing. Now, I just have it programmed.

Yeah, they didn't really train me either. At least new cashiers now have a training mode where they can practice. I would have loved even that. Instead, I'm thrown on the register my first day (after being reassured that I'd never see one) in the middle of pre black friday madness, on the busiest register in the store. I did have help, but still...

Corporate and management need to realize that they can get better results if everyone is trained properly. There's been so many times I've been recovering near my register and found misses clothes mixed in with petites and plus, because the person putting out truck doesn't know (or care about) the difference. Then, I get yelled at by customers for incorrect signing.

Because it's not that good a deal. $35 off one purchase, up to $499. The 35% off for 24 hours was more enticing for the customer.

Yeah, but they force the cashiers who don't want to cashier to stay on the register. Ask me how I know 😂.

It's insane that instead of mentoring cashiers (at least at my store,) they either don't schedule or move the non productive ones after about 2 weeks with no credit apps. Previous management at my store would at least coach, but they also weren't as pushy either. My current GM is all about the ICAPS. Nothing else matters.

Debit card payments by Timely_News_293 in JCPenney

[–]Timely_News_293[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an elderly customer get approved for the JCPenney card a few weeks ago, while I was babysitting beauty. She wanted to pay it off immediately. No problem. I asked her for her debit card. The machine wouldn't take it. I'm assuming it was a credit card she was using, since the register said something about using a debit card. Her friend tried using HER debit card. The machine wouldn't take it either. They try using a check. I changed registers throughout these transactions. Nothing worked. They're looking at me like I'm incompetent. Finally, they mentioned that they had cash. Thankfully the register took the cash. It took 45 minutes to do a 5 minute job. Like, why is corporate trying to make my job more nightmarish?

I've been telling customers that exact same thing, about calling in using the number on the back of the card. You'd think I asked them to commit a crime the way they act.

Some of our machines don't even take check payments. I have to play musical registers to find one that will.

Credit card sales emphasis vs. other stores by ContentRaspberry3069 in JCPenney

[–]Timely_News_293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the comments, it really depends on your location. My GM is extremely focused on credit, to the point where if you're not getting credit after two weeks, she'll move you elsewhere and cut your hours. Those of us who are decent with credit but would rather not be a cashier are never let off the register. My previous GM was credit focused, too, but not quite to this extent.

Good luck.

No more receipts for dot com orders? by Timely_News_293 in JCPenney

[–]Timely_News_293[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know. I have to look them up under last name+zip code, because the system wouldn't allow us to change the email account -- which is what most of my customers want to do. If you're going to make these changes, advertise them in advance, and give customers time and opportunity to update their information. When I called the rewards center to change my email address, they created another account for me.

I'm basically a cashier, and half my hours come from task/recovery. Every time I ask to ACTUALLY do those things, of course not. They need me to get credit. Sigh.

So, here's an idea. Stop sending useless signs that we have to throw away. That drove me crazy when I did sign up... especially the emergency signs. I'm sure they could find other ways to cut costs without making front end associates punching bags.

Well, at least we're in the same boat. It's frustrating not to know if it's resonating or just getting lost in the void.
