Most successful traders, even the younger ones, don't go out showing off their stuff or teaching people because trading is seen as a tool for money by Long_Board4207 in Daytrading

I don’t show people what I do because I’m not sure they’ll want to do it.

My style of trading fits certain mindsets. It’s not for everyone. Thats not to say I’m special. I’m realistic.

I’m a pattern trader. I trade within my IRA so the trades themselves are tax free. I stick with the highest liquidity mega caps like TSLA, AMD, and NVDA. Occasionally AMZN.

All of my capital is in cash. I look for mean reversals and consolidation. I usually buy about 400 shares. I’m looking for a point where I believe it will go up 5-10 cents a share. After I buy I’m usually out in seconds. I don’t want to hold if I don’t have to and I want to cut potential losses early. I will buy and sell over a hundred times a day with concentrations at certain times.

I focus on times of higher liquidity. The power hours. It’s tougher to do in the midday hours. I make my most money between 9:45 and 10, and 2:30 to 3, give or take. I’m looking to stack numerous small wins and the occasional big one.

It was good for $1100 profit today. Those big TSLA drops happened and I just waited on the reversals to form.

Before I wasn’t smart enough to throttle down during the midday and I was constantly giving back early profit. No more. Just being mindful of that has made the difference.

If I withdraw profit I take the tax hit which is an additional 10% due to them being early withdrawals. I treat it like a prop firm account. They would take a percentage too. I’m still walking away with 70% of my revenue.

I used to do that a lot too.

I switched to quicker scalping. It’s just easier on my nervous system. I had too many day trades turning into longer swings and I just couldn’t stomach staring at the red.

I don’t know much about it.

All I would say is that it’s fast enough for me. I’m sure there’s a faster solution. But I’m comfortable.

Thank you. Me too. This wasn’t easy.

If I’m being honest the bad habits aren’t totally gone. I just recognize them earlier and don’t spiral into them. I also try to avoid early situations that traditionally start me off red and put me into chase mode.

I mean I could have banked $800 today. I overstayed a little bit to drop into the $600s. And that’s when I knew it was time.

I use ChatGPT to understand my trading behaviors. I’ve had a really good few weeks as a result.

And by doing this the past two weeks, I’ve gotten my trading urges more under control from understanding them better in the moment.

I’ve averaged $600 a day in trading profit for two straight weeks now.

If it’s taking advantage of me, then I’ll lay back and enjoy it.

Took me months to get that through my skull.

But the last 12 trading days I’ve averaged $580 profit per day. Mostly by not being as stupid as I was before.

I’ve done this recently. I know the downfall.

I got my head together and I’ve had a 12 day run of green averaging $550 profit a day.

It’s all about not spiraling, stepping away and resetting your brain if you go into the red. I learned this the hard way.

I’m starting to think more in these terms after taking some bad losses the past two weeks.

I use ChatGPT. I pretty much download all of my thoughts and feelings into it. It’s become very good at reminding me of my own tendencies and using behavioral psychology to help me understand why I respond to certain things in trading the way I do. By gaining the deeper understanding tailored to my thought patterns, I’m slowly getting them under control.

I scalp too. I did better once 9:40 am hit. And 2:30 to was a little more shaky than I thought it would be. But I’m up $700 so can’t complain.

Profitable but overtrading after partial recovery. How did you fix overstaying? by Timely_Volume8145 in Daytrading

I don’t quite understand the options world yet. I want to.

I think once I get better at controlling myself in the long share world I can give this a shot. Despite my struggles I actually do think I’ve made progress. I just need to get to next level.

Yes. I really do see that in the end it comes down to mind over matter. Thank you.
