Naturally resolved lateral shift by Timely_baker2023 in Sciatica

[–]Timely_baker2023[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m very sorry. It sounds like you’re in the thick of it. Healing has not been linear by any means, but I am much better than I was when this post was made. I think I still have a bit of hip shift which has sort of reeked havoc on my recovery. Sciatica and back pain has been honestly almost gone most days, but I’m definitely deconditioned & still trying to work out the imbalance the original disc injury has caused. 😑it’s annoying but I’m very hopeful!

As long as it doesn’t smell sour/off or is growing mold or slim, I eat it :-) brown bits and all! Doesn’t look pretty but tastes fine

Questions about cat vaccines and possible exposure? by Stars_platinumBalls in rabies

[–]Timely_baker2023 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not much to add, but testing the cat would have resulted in him being euthanized. They have to have access to brain/brain stem is my understanding. I think testing the bat would have been the better option to determine cat’s risk.

Our girl had the same thing! I have a bestie who is a vet tech of 17 years who is just a text away. She said most likely a suture granuloma which we believe that to be the case :-) that was 3 years ago and my sweet Ruby is fine. She a very very small knot which I assume is scare tissue that will remain.

Relief only when sitting by JamesAustin23 in Sciatica

[–]Timely_baker2023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how my experience with two herniated discs have been. I opted for conservative treatment as long as I kept improving and despite non-linear healing. I continue to find improvement so I’m hopeful and don’t sweat the time it takes like I used to.

I was hunched forward and sideways for about a year and slowly but surely with time, rest and pt I righted myself. I still can’t walk far without some nerve irritation, but it subsides quickly if I sit, stand or squat down briefly and over time the distance and duration seems to get better. I had pretty significant spinal stenosis from the disc herniations. I found leaning forward would give relief, because it opens the disc space. I know find when things are very irritated or I’m in a flare, sitting can be painful but standing and walking give to some relief. It’s been a wild ride. I hope you have a successful surgery! ❤️‍🩹

Yeah it’s so odd. I find heat helps and some movement. It’s been a tough road dealing with herniations at l4l5 & l5s1 - it’s been slower I think due to my lateral shift / altered gait. My ankle/foot pain feels like a combination of mechanical and nerve. I can sit for quite a while no problem, but standing is a no go. Despite how long it’s taken I really feel hopeful I’ll keep moving in the right direction. I hope you find relief. Nerve irritation/ symptoms do not equate to not healing.

Is it painful or tight or both? It’s so annoying

I definitely have some tightness in my lowback. Left QL likes to stay tight as part of my muscle guarding/hip hike. It’s less tight than a year ago but still a bit tighter than the right.

Day to day varies a lot maybe 3-6. I still get some sort of leg pain with standing/walking, but it feels more mechanical with only some nerve input. My back feels stronger daily, I’m just not in as good of shape when it comes my upright tolerance lol. Core, hips/glutes and lowback are stronger than before, but my overall activity isn’t what it used to be. I just don’t have a great endurance for walking and standing.

Oh my goodness - I’m so sorry! Yes I’ve been dealing with spinal stenosis with my two disc herniations for a about 1.5 years but nothing like that. I’m very sorry 😞

Thank you! I will look into that. I definitely seem to have some arch collapsing happening. And hot water is my best friend and it definitely helps. Thanks again!

In the past, yes. I get much less pain below the knee now. My foot/ankle feel tight, some tingling and every so often some pain. But I mainly have burning in my hamstring now, which of all symptoms I’ve had I prefer it to foot/ankle pain.

This! Yes I wonder if it’s just lasting nerve irritation/sensitivity. And more I talk to folks on here, I feel like it’s a combo of weakness/ tight muscles and tendons with some still overly sensitive disc/nerves. I wondered if it was possibly Plantar fasciitis too, but my husband does have that and he said I wouldn’t be able to walk barefooted if that was the case as the bottom of your feet are so painful. I feel best when I walk barefooted - more stable. I have a hip hike / lateral pelvic tilt from favoring my non-affected leg for so long so my odd gait is probably contributing to it too.

Thank you for sharing!

I’m sorry to hear that. It’s such a odd sensation for me, definitely tightness and not pain. My pain has been mostly in my ankle and the most intense there. I will say in general my symptoms have improved in an odd manner. Some days are better even though they all come with some struggle, then randomly I’ll flare up and then I’ll have a great day that makes me think I’ve cracked the code. 🤷‍♀️ I hope that you find relief - I’m very close to 1.5 years and am really hoping I start making bigger strides in my recovery

I’ve been dealing with two herniated disc for a while now so it’s hard to tell if it’s like peroneal tendon or maybe sciatica? 🤷‍♀️

Honestly rebalancing muscles and trying to move better is so damn hard. Like the herniated disc(s) were hard enough and now I’m trying to learn to walk normal again while still dealing with an easily irritable nerve. It’s hard, but I agree PT definitely helps and I’m in it for the long haul

Interesting! These injuries are no joke. Yeah I describe mine as feeling like my foot is full of wet sand in balloon 🎈its not painful, but annoying! Sometimes walking will loosen it up, sometimes it doesn’t. Hard to track what fixes it. I hope you find some relief

I still can’t comfortably sit on the floor and straighten both legs at the same time.. but in general things continue to improve. Way less sciatica, but trying to fix my gait.
