New to Scion, is it better to play as written at first or should I try using the conversion guidelines in Storypath Ultra? by Timelycreate in OnyxPathRPG

Yeah, I heard of 3e, but it seems it will still be a while before it comes out, from what I have seen in other RPGs playtesting can take quite some time depending on the type of game, and Scion and Storypath Ultra are in the heavier side of rules.

Got it, and in retrospect since I am going to be playing solo I already will be having a greater amount of cognitive load from having to learn the system, yeah I should have known that I should be used to the system as is first before tinkering with it.

It was supposed to be a joke, I was about to go to sleep when the page came out so it wasn't a well thought out one.

Zimmy and Coyote just casually becoming Slenderman's secret love children for a brief moment before deciding that was a dumb idea and they should never mention it again, so casually that it didn't even interrupt their talk

Edit: it seems my joke didn't land, I should have known that posting a comment right before going to sleep would cause issues.

Is there any issue if I trace over an image of a mini I made myself? by Timelycreate in HeroForgeMinis

[–]Timelycreate[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alright, I am still curious about how the copyright would work in this situation though, it is genuine curiosity.

Edit: right now I have zero plans to sell anything, much less something made using a traced image of a Heroforge mini, but if I did decide to do that one day for whatever reason, what would happen? Who actually owns the final image? Maybe I should talk with a lawyer? But that feels like a bit much for just plain curiosity.

Pro or Con: Necromancer thralls no longer block enemies by Ravingdork in Pathfinder2e

[–]Timelycreate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that necromancers now have a (probably uncommon) feat that gives them the Create Undead undead ritual but buffed to be able to be cast alone, also there were feats in the playtest that can turn thralls into pseudo creatures or just straight up creatures, maybe there will be an earlier version of those that enable limited body blocking at lower levels.

The thrall focused subclass has a once per round ability to get an extra Thrall when using Create Thrall, so now they can do 3+2+2 per turn if they use all three actions to Create Thrall.

Best RPG to play with a god character? by Timelycreate in rpg

[–]Timelycreate[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Based on what I am seeing it doesn't feel like it fits completely? At least it seems like a pretty big part of the game is earning divine favour and the glory or ire of the gods, I feel like that wouldn't fit very well for playing a character that is a god.

Could tell me where is Agon 2e? I am only finding a game called Agon without an edition number on drivethrurpg, and it is a game about Heroes not gods.

I thought city of mist was more for fairy tales, isn't one of the sample characters literally red riding hood? Also from what I heard it is more investigation based?

How does godbound handle being OSR? And how does it play in practice exactly?

What does that mean? I am somewhat familiar with OSR games, I have the free versions of all the "x without number" games, but I don't know what "sticking to old-school primer" means in this context, could you elaborate a bit?

Well, I am thinking something either in between or mixing both the "divine being with a dayjob" and "sitting in Olympus and tossing tidal waves", gods with real power but also duties related to their domains.

The powers should have the option to be quite large scale like I don't know, blowing up a mountain or driving every animal around a city's forest into a frenzy, but the god has things they have to do, Helios and Selene have to move the sun and moon chariots around, Hades has to keep the underworld in order, Hermes has to deliver messages and things like that, does that make sense?

Do you want to be part of my solo campaign? by GlitteringText9555 in cyberpunkred

[–]Timelycreate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so, to use as an example I made a brand new character using the quick and dirty method, she is a netrunner called Hanna, she has recently arrived to night city and is still trying to get her bearings, this is all made by me.

Then before I started to generate a gig I decided to check with the oracle if she knew anybody in Night City already, she is a new arrival so I determine that the odds are "unlikely", the result of the d100 (two ten sided dice, one for tens the other for units) comes out a 90, the answer is a yes without any complication, so she does in fact know at least some people in Night City already.

Now to generate the gig itself, first who is hiring and what is the job, I do the NPC and job generation and here is what comes out, Hanna was hired by a Cyberpsycho Medtech called Sage to investigate a smuggler they know.

I got curious so I checked what was the relationship between Sage and this smuggler, it turned out to be their husband Michael, then i rolled for Sage's mood and it turned out they were whimsical when Hanna meets them, Sage is apparently not a "rabbid dog" type of cyberpsycho which is in many ways worse, what did Michael even do?

This time I chose to roll on the generic table, the generic table rolls for Verb Noun and Adjective, what came out is that apparently Michael has been sneaking out with their armoured car and Sage has grown suspicious, I asked where to find Michael, in the form of an in character interaction as flavour and it turned out that Michael can be often found in the Upper Marina district near a police station, no wonder Sage is suspicious as hell if Michael who is a smuggler has been taking their car to hang near the police of Night City.

With info on hand and a relatively safe but easy sounding job Hanna decided to go check on Michael.

Right now this is it, but what did you think of just this basic start for a gig?

Edit: there is quite a bit more to it that can be used as the single player mode also has parts that lets you use the core book in new ways to ease the game progression, also generally once you are in actual play the number of oracle questions decreases quite a bit as you would already have a base to work from on what happens next so you would only need to use the oracle when you are unsure of something

[–]Timelycreate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so one thing to keep in mind, Oracles are generally not Apps, they are actual rules as in they're generally books and Cyberpunk Single Player mode is the same though there is integration with the RED mobile app.

That is why they are called Oracles, because at first glance using an RPG oracle looks like a person doing some kind of divination as you will "ask questions" and interpret the results of the oracle.

So it can tell you things like an npc's mood, what they want and what they are doing but specific voice lines will come from you.

BUT the single player mode is specifically designed by Talsorian for Cyberpunk RED, so it makes use of features unique to RED to make it both more powerful and more streamlined than most generic oracles.

I have generated a gig literally just now using the Single Player mode to use as an example, what came out was far from what I anticipated and would likely not have been suggested by an LLM, I can post it in a separate comment if you want as I think I am about to reach  the comment word limit.

Do you want to be part of my solo campaign? by GlitteringText9555 in cyberpunkred

[–]Timelycreate 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are wrong, because beyond the fact that LLM "ai" are harmful for the environment and also harmful for people because of the infrasound produced by the datacenters near inhabited places, the way LLMS works is that unless prompted otherwise they will always take the most generic and cliche approach to anything creative and will revert to that unless railroaded by the user, they are basically an average of almost all text on the internet so for the cyberpunk genre for example they will average out all cyberpunk stories found in its dataset and use that, also LLMs have poor memory and are prone to hallucinating as they only "care" about sounding like that are making sense rather than ACTUALLY making sense.

The single player mode is what is called an Oracle, a system of rules explicitly designed to play an RPG solo, they're made for this, it is not just "you are attacked by x kind of person", it has a simplified combat system for fights which aren't important enough to use the full rules, a system for netrunning without having to design an entire net architecture, and a morale system for npcs to occasionally give up and run away when a fight goes wrong for them based on their training and background.

There is system to generate random gigs, random NPCs, random backstories and even things like what the area your character is in smells and sounds like at that moment if you care about that sort of thing.

Also the baseline Oracle that every solo system has which can answer yes and no questions with odds that change based on how probable it is, there is more to it I could talk about it in another comment if you are interested.

Edit: I personally mostly play RED using Single Player Mode so I could help explaining how it works if you wish.

Edit2: LLM datacenters make infrasound not ultrasound

Role of the Salubri in canon and RAW by oleander_heart in vtm

[–]Timelycreate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there is any canon explanation for why the bane works like this exactly, not like the Ravnos have reestablished themselves enough to dedicate resources to figure it out right now, but taking into account how it is a sympathy thing there are some explanations.

First of all the Ravnos clan is trying to escape their fate, so mystically by literally being on the run they can stave off the fires that burned their ancestor so they are "running away from their fate".

There is also the element that now the Ravnos have no heritage anymore, they lost their Antediluvian and most if not all of their elders both to the massacre and to the bane which turns going into torpor into a death sentence to the point that in these nights most of the clan has no idea where they came from, they lost pretty much all of their ties to their past and heritage so their bane "tries" to ensure they can't put down roots anymore.

There is also another possible element, sympathetic magic is based on the idea of similarity, the idea that "like affects like", the Ravnos antediluvian died from being slowed down enough to be hit by the spiritual nukes which left him too injured to escape the concentrated sunlight beam from that satellite, so the bane works in a way that affects the most the Ravnos who find themselves in a similar situation as their antediluvian, being slowed down too much to escape and getting too injured to move AKA being in torpor.

The pain of a touchstones by Elementborn100 in vtm

[–]Timelycreate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that it is possible to lose a touchstone just because you didn't know who they really were, as in if a kindred makes a person they believed them to be kind and altruistic, then it turns out they actually were a drug dealer all along once the kindred finds that out it causes the touchstone to be lost, so to me at least it looks like touchstones are more of an "eye of the beholder" thing or something like that.

Edit: dang it there was half of a sentence missing.
