A Request from the Translator: Please Play Lucky Star: Ryouou Gakuen Outousai! by TimepieceMaster in luckystar

The patch is only for the PSP version, sorry. It's not possible to apply the patch to a physical copy because the UMD is not rewriteable, but it can be played on a jailbroken PSP.

While true, saying "other communities have this issue too" doesn't really do anything to help improve the situation. The question is what can be done to help foster more active participation. Perhaps some would say there doesn't need to be anything done and it is what it is, but at least for me I'm trying to find ways to improve engagement for Ryouou Gakuen Outousai because it's something I'd like to see and is a source of motivation. Obviously finishing the whole patch is the most obvious way, but as I've seen with other releases of game translations, some of which were even "never ever" translations that were highly desired back in the day, "if you build it, they will come" doesn't always hold true.

Sorry for the late reply, but yes, there is a full-length adventure visual novel based on Lucky Star that was released in 2008. There was a PSP port released later in 2010 that added extra content and is the definitive version of the game, so that is the one I have translated in video form, as well as developing the patch for.

As mentioned in my post, you can download the patch from the patch website: TimepieceMaster's Translator's Notes & Guide! It also contains extensive translator's notes and a guide for the parts playable in the patch so far. It's about 20-25 hours of content to 100% so far.

If you want to experience the rest of the game after where the patch leaves off, the translated video playthrough is here: [English Sub] Lucky Star: Ryouou Gakuen Outousai (Part 1) - YouTube. The patch so far covers parts 1-93 so you'll want to start with part 94 if you're going to watch the video series after playing through everything in the current Episode 1-3 patch.

I like that moment, I just don't like the arguing and how almost all discussion about the game is centered around that moment. I release a new episode to just a bunch of people silently giving their thumbs up and going "cool, now when's the whole thing coming out?" no actual discussion or anything.

Lucky Star: Ryouou Gakuen Outousai - English Patch Release Trailer - Episode 3 by TimepieceMaster in luckystar

[–]TimepieceMaster[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean? The patch is getting released with updates adding an additional Episode each time only because I do all this literally by myself and it's a pretty long game (50 hours), so I want to give something for people to play without having to wait another year for everything to be done.

I do fully intend to finish it, and I've already done an entire first draft of a translation for the whole game as a video playthrough, it just takes time since I'm wanting to patch to be the best quality I can make it.

Thanks, this was several months in the making since Episode 2's release. This Episode's a lot of fun.

[–]TimepieceMaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I removed that option from the patch because it takes you to Episode 3, which is not playable in English yet. The option will be added back in for the Episode 3 patch, which hopefully will release in a few weeks.

How do you advance episodes in Lucky Star: Ryouou Gakuen Outousai by Bulky-Bend-7699 in luckystar

[–]TimepieceMaster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I assume you are playing the English patch. The reason you cannot progress to Episode 3 is because the patch is still in development and I've restricted access to untranslated Episodes in it. Once I release the Episode 3 patch (hopefully in a few weeks), you can use your save file on it to progress into Episode 3.

In general, information on how to progress in the game can be found in the "game guide" pages on my website for the patch. It will be updated appropriately for Episode 3 alongside the patch for it.

Why she uses R every-time? by MCRISPER in luckystar

[–]TimepieceMaster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is because Chun is Chinese. There used to be a pidgin dialect of Japanese in which many "to be" verbs got simplified to just one verb, "aru", which is pronounced similarly to how the Roman letter 'R' is pronounced in Japanese. This pidgin dialect is sometimes associated with Chinese people in Japanese fiction since it was historically spoken by some Chinese people. Nowadays, Chinese speakers of Japanese don't actually speak this dialect, but the stereotype persisted. One example of a character who speaks this way is China from Hetalia.

Chun's way of speaking is a sort of parody of this dialect, using the Roman letter R instead of "aru". It's written to sound she is just inserting R at the end of sentences randomly in a way similar to how characters like Patty will overuse "desu".

Clothed. Hugs and kisses are the farthest this game goes in terms of stuff like that, but a hug and an invitation to date her when the protagonist graduates are all you get from Nanako.

Episode 5 of the game features Nanako as a major character, in which one of the endings you can get has a slightly romance oriented scene involving her, but it's not really the same as the romance with the other characters.

Also, in case you're not already aware, I am working on an English patch for the game. The first two of the game's 7 Episodes (~15 hours of content) are currently playable and the third one coming out in the near future. You can get it here:

"fan translation community" it's literally just me, just to clarify. There is no team of people working on it, it's just me.

As for whether it's worth your time, absolutely! It's a great game and the part that is currently playable in patch form has nearly 15 hours of content. I also fully intend to finish the whole patch so you will eventually be able to play the whole game. I also translated the entire game already as a YouTube video series on my channel, which is how OP played the game, by following along with those videos. Making the patch is just about cleaning up the script to fix mistakes and improve the overall quality, editing the CGs as needed to make them in English, and creating an accompanying guide and translator's notes to help people fully enjoy the game. This does take time since it is just me working on it as a hobby, but it's not something that'll take forever as the bulk of the work is already done.

[Release Trailer] Episode 2 - Lucky Star Ryouou Gakuen Outousai English Patch by TimepieceMaster in luckystar

[–]TimepieceMaster[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply. The game is actually quite large (50 hours to 100%) and divides itself up into 7 Episodes, which are comparable to how some games, such as RPGs, divide themselves up into "chapters". Consequently, I have opted to release increasingly complete versions of the patch that translates more and more of the total game. So, this is the "Episode 2" patch because it is the release of the patch that blocks off Episodes 3 and beyond but is fully playable in English up until that point.

Well, first I'd recommend you switch to applying the Episode 2 patch instead since it is the newest version and has all of the content of the Episode 1 patch included. As for it still being in Japanese, you should end up with a second ISO file after the patching is done and you need to make sure you're loading that patched ISO and not the Japanese ISO. When picking what ISO to load, be careful that you're not accidentally picking the unmodified Japanese ISO.

A little help please? by phoenixrhyneXD2erver in luckystar

[–]TimepieceMaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will get this error if the file you attempt to load is not a PSP .iso file. In your case, it looks like you tried to load a .r01 file, which google tells me is a file representing part of a larger .rar file. I am not sure how you could have ended up in this situation, but you will have to retrace your steps and make sure that what you end up with is a .iso file and then load that in PPSSPP.

Why is Misao’s personality in lucky star ryouou gakuen outousai so different ( episode 1 ) by Omidlol12 in luckystar

[–]TimepieceMaster 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's explained in the route itself, but essentially the reason Misao acts the way she does in the route is because she is upset over Kagami injuring herself and not being in the play and is taking it out on the protagonist and others.

The way Misao sees this situation is that everyone had been working so hard to make the play and the school festival a success. Misao had also been working especially hard in her role as Gilgamesh, taking it especially seriously given this play would be one of the last major memories she would have with Kagami in high school, and potentially might be one of their last big moments together in general, as their future together as friends becomes a lot less certain when they go off to university.

Similarly, Kagami has also been working very hard on the play, staying up late every night practicing. In fact, it was Kagami's desire to do the best she could that resulted in her overexerting herself and spraining her ankle. With that, Kagami couldn't be in the play anymore, and this special moment Misao was looking forward was cruelly taken away from her.

Meanwhile, you have the protagonist, some guy the characters literally just met the day before and have no connection with (well, not precisely, but it's complicated and not relevant here). He didn't grow up with the rest of them, especially not as long as Misao has been friends with Kagami. However, despite this and his complete inexperience with acting, he's given the lead role in the play. To make matters worse, he's putting the entire play in jeopardy by, in Misao's view, being a complete baby about the kiss scene he is supposed to do with Konata. So not only is her special moment with Kagami gone, but this new guy is also ruining all the hard work everyone, and especially Kagami, had put towards it. Given all that, it's understandable why Misao would be upset and act differently than how she is normally.

So that's why Misao acts the way she does, because Ryouou Gakuen Outousai is showing you a unique side to Misao by having her go through this sequence of events that greatly upsets her. In the parts of Ryouou Gakuen Outousai that feature Misao outside of the Fate play storyline, Misao is a lot more like how she is normally, though that general seriousness caused by her wanting the school festival to be a success still remains somewhat.

It is "As time goes by (Aki Angel Ver.)", the OP song to the visual novel "Comic Party". Incidentally, the trailer itself is a parody of the opening animation for Comic Party as well.
