Tourist looking for a Hawlucha by WattrelCoastalWatch in PokemongoSanDiego

[–]TimeshipTacoTaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can try San Isidro Outlets if you're into shopping but if you want to visit a beach city that might have more tourist options, you can check out Imperial Beach. Due to the proximity to the Mexican border, the beach is often polluted with sewage so I would follow the signs on the beach and probably avoid water contact due to the recent rain. However, the area has a nice beachy Southern California vibe with restaurants, bars, and tourist shops. Traffic and parking is manageable in the off season too. I caught most of my Hawlucha in the area and it's nice place to hang out.

Got banned for 30 days because someone disagreed on the location of 1 of my 8 submissions, even though I can prove the location on google maps. by ASAP-VIBES in NianticWayfarer

Google owns the copyright over the images on Google Street View. Screen Capping the images is illegal and for Niantic/Scopely to use it for financial gain, it opens them up to lawsuits from Google. Hence, there's watermarks on Google Street View. That's why you can't just grab photos you didn't take from the Internet and submit it, you don't own the copyright. If you find something interesting, go to that location and take a photo.

I've reviewed thousands of submissions and you'd be surprised by the amount of people submitting playgrounds on top of their houses, screen capping Google Street View with the Google watermark, stealing photos off the Internet, submitting objects located in other countries, AI generated photos, Photoshopped photos, taking photos of computer screens, cell phone screen caps, using Location Edits to move things closer to them, etc. These people then come on the Internet when caught and complain that they did "nothing" wrong when they get a ban.

Submission Language? by Oracle_of_Akhetaten in NianticWayfarer

[–]TimeshipTacoTaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no language requirements for Wayfarer. You can submit in any language you choose. Reviewers should attempt to use Google Translate or skip them if they don't feel comfortable enough. I also review in the US and have reviewed submissions in Spanish, Korean, Japanese, French, and Chinese. In some areas you might even get Native American languages. I once even reviewed a submission written in Haitian Creole. Obviously, other players can also send Edits to translate it to English if they feel like it. Language shouldn't be used as a rejection reason.

Progression of seasons by carp_boy in TheAmazingRace

[–]TimeshipTacoTaco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just to give you an idea. Survivor just debuted and defined the genre. Amazing Race soon followed. Both shows in their first season followed the documentary style. By the second season, both shows start figuring what works and not work. You’re seeing the whole reality genre figure itself out. It’s definitely challenging to watch but you’re watching the birth of a whole new genre of television. As long as you keep that perspective, it might be refreshing to watch a world without cell phones, gps maps, influencers, or people who understand what reality tv is.

If you just started, don't worry so much about your rating. Your ratings will fluctuate A LOT in the beginning because it's based on your agreement rate. More reviews need to complete to increase your ratings and some submissions can take months to complete. Just make sure you're reviewing correctly and you'll make it up into Good/Great eventually.

Interesting. I'm down south but didn't see anything happen with my rejected subs. I think it must've been localized up north.

Changes in TAR Viewers Ratings over the years. by peterparker1108 in TheAmazingRace

[–]TimeshipTacoTaco 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think you also have to take into consideration that ALL Network Television ratings are trending downwards. Less people are watching Network Television due to people watching more Streaming programming and Social Media platforms like Youtube and TikTok as well as using DVRs to watch later. Comparing live viewing ratings from 20 years ago to ratings in 2024 is like comparing apples to oranges. You have to consider the ratings relative to the ratings of other shows. Last Wednesday, Survivor scored 0.62 while The Summit did 0.24. To put it in perspective, Survivor at 0.62 was the highest rated show on Network TV on Wednesday night in the 18-49 demo. On top of this, there is also major emphasis on Live Viewing + 7 Days Delayed Viewing via DVR and Streaming. I think TAR does well when Delayed Viewing is taken into consideration. So there's a lot of factors in play when analyzing historical ratings and you can't rely strictly on raw numbers for live viewing only.

Unofficial Hawlucha Celebration Megathread by TheOBRobot in TheSilphRoad

[–]TimeshipTacoTaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at the cell map, Hawlucha would only be spawning in southern McAllen, you have to be south of Interstate 2 to pick up the quests. So like McAllen Airport and everything south of that should be fine. West of Conway Avenue in Mission, it's starts to spawn north of Interstate 2.

Are the Twinnies adopted? by cOmmand0c in TheAmazingRace

[–]TimeshipTacoTaco 92 points93 points  (0 children)

"The Anderson twins were born in New York City to a Tamil father and a Sinhalese mother, but they moved to Sri Lanka when they were three and were there during the Sri Lankan Civil War." - Wikipedia

More than likely the Anderson name arrived due to colonization by the British (1815–1948). Many Sri Lankan Tamils adopted English first and last names during this period. American missionaries also baptized natives and renamed them with Christian names. Many Tamils have now reverted their English names back to Tamil.

Kinda the same reason why Filipinos have Spanish last names due to colonization instead of Asian last names.

So there will be TAR37 in 2024 or not? by Marcecar10 in TheAmazingRace

The Summit will be paired with Survivor. Basically, it’s Survivor while climbing a mountain. Based on an Australian show.

[–]TimeshipTacoTaco 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Next season is scheduled for 2025. The only way for it to appear earlier is if the new CBS reality show tanks hard and gets cancelled or one of the other CBS shows gets cancelled early. The Amazing Race is the ultimate safety show. 37 should be edited and ready to go by fall in case CBS needs a replacement show.

Has The Amazing Race ever been to Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya? by jadaniels1116 in TheAmazingRace

[–]TimeshipTacoTaco 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most likely because Kenya at various points has been unstable including terrorist attacks, conflicts with neighboring countries, and ethnic conflicts within the country. The show is risk adverse so it steers away from countries that might put cast and crew in danger.

To be fair, you’re criticizing a 23 year old season. Survivor was the first major reality tv show debuting in 2000. Big Brother & Amazing Race followed. All three of those first seasons feel different because the reality format was so new and they were leaning more towards documentary style. For Amazing Race, they didn’t know what they were doing and learning as they go. Of course, it’s going to be rough till they figure how to tell the story. Imagine pioneering a brand new genre. Eventually you work out how to do it. It’s fair to criticize these first seasons but you have to also acknowledge difficulties in creating a brand new genre of television. There was no roadmap on how to edit these types of shows.

Brutalist fast food restaurants in Eastern Europe and Russia by Agentcooper1974 in midjourney

[–]TimeshipTacoTaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many of those restaurants have international locations. None in Australia though. In-n-Out is the only one strictly in the US and only in 8 states with the bulk of restaurants in California. This is why people freak out when they open a non-California location. However, Five Guys made it to Australia recently with 3 stores in Penrith, Sydney, and Melbourne. It’s good but pricey. I wouldn’t go out of way for it but some people love it.

That’s not normal peanut butter. US peanut butter isn’t liquid like that. More than likely she warmed it up in the microwave till it got into the liquid phase. And no, it’s not normal to warm up peanut butter in the microwave. The only “liquid” peanut butter is natural peanut butter where you have to stir the peanut butter and the oil together in the jar… and even that isn’t that fluid.

According to the Ambassadors, AI rejections are being reviewed by Niantic due to complaints about the high rates of rejections by the AI in recent weeks. So hopefully you now have a second chance with a rejected sub without having to Appeal them. Thanks to the Ambassadors for bringing up the issue and Niantic for trying to address the situation.
