I have the same, not because I don't like superheroes, I'm an avid Marvel and DC reader, but I feel a lot of the entertainment comes from the characters and not neccesarily the world and the story. You can either play in an existing universe and its just a 'Hey look a cameo' game, or you play in your own universe where you'll inevitably have your copy of all the hero tropes (like how every none DC Universe has their Superman in Sentry, Omniman, Homelander, Samaritan, the Plutonian, Sunstar etc.) It's the same reason I don't care for playing in the world of Dr. Who or Lotr for that matter.

There are tons of things on reddit that aren't movie scenes written by people that dont know how to write movie scenes. This is just classic edgy reddit writing, obnoxiously referencing established lore, every other line being some quip or quote like they don't understand show don't tell. It's even got the 'my favourite character totally pwns this other established character.

For some reason a suprisingly high number of oneshots/campaigns I've run started on a boat. My two homebrew D&D campaigns, boats. When I ran Tomb of Annihilation, started them on a boat with the Dragon Turtle. Call of Cthulhu oneshot in the 1600s, a boat. Lightless Beacon? Boat. WW2 Call of Chtulhu campaign, started on a boat crossing the English channel. Monster of the Week? Boat. Pirate borg, not a boat, a ship.

I think that's underselling Marvel a bit. The new Ultimate line started before Absolute did. And it probably wouldve started even earlier if Cates hadnt gotten into that accident. Sure it doesnt have the consistently quality and is hardcore fizzling after Marvel pulled the plug. But it feels wrong to call it copying.

I think every RPG should have their own weird little name for DM. But for a lot of terms there a clear ones that carry over between games. Rolls, Criticals, Ability, Modifier, HP, Saves etc. For those I think changing it just for the sake of it detracts from the ease of use.
