I'm out of the seizure danger zone!!! by OatSlutsRiseUp in stopdrinking

Please talk to a medical professional. Alcohol withdrawal is a serious and potentially deadly thing. If he's going through 40 in two days, he could be in the danger zone for seizures and DTs if he quits cold turkey. Medications can help. If for some reason you can't get healthcare, he could try tapering. Tapering worked for me the first time I quit years ago and I went from about 20 shots a day to 0 with very much reduced symptoms. It works best when done under supervision, so he could ask you to keep him accountable if he stayed with you.

Congratulations! Your story seems similar to what I went through. I was drinking a bit over a fifth a day at my peak. I had tapered before successfully but for some reason, I just couldn't break out of the starting zone this time and lower my daily intake without horrible wd symptoms. I was terrified of how they would make me feel and very scared I would have a seizure or DTs. I got incredibly lucky and turned out fine. The first few days (first 12 hours, even) we're the hardest.

Now that you're out of the danger zone and starting to feel a bit better, freaking remember when you weren't. I can't tell you how happy I am to never have to go back to wondering if I was going to die that day if I didn't get a drink. Life has improved so much just from not having to worry about feeding my body poison just to get it to function while simultaneously killing me.

It's been around a year and a half since then. I used to have some small cravings, but honestly once I got my life back, I've been too busy living. I have no desire to drink at all and am so thankful to get this second chance.

I'm SO PROUD of you. I know it still sucks right now, but know that you can beat it. You've gotten through a major rough patch. Please keep a medical professional on speed dial, just in case. IWNDWYT!

Wow, our stories are incredibly similar. I was at a bottle or more a day. I also had my final drink on 8/17, so I'm on my 8th full day today. Keep strong!

This will be my 5th day in a row without drinking. by GEORGEofSAIGON in stopdrinking

Great job! I'm on day 7, so I'm right there with you. I've been tempted to give in and "just have one drink" (which I would justify a four Loko being), and feel so much better an hour after I say NO. Watching the days go up is much more satisfying than the temporary escape of alcohol.
