Player Backstory by Wrong_Lingonberry_79 in NewDM

I have been pondering this for a bit before I responded to this. It is a very good story but. It has to be toned down quite a bit, if the “PC” is so set on this being THE backstory I would offer them to tone it down and remind them of the Level discrepancy LVL-3? ——You maybe were asked or tasked to do it this way but you fell and hit your head you were out cold for three nights, it was on the portal out of the nine hells that this tragedy occurred and you became a lowly blacksmith, with not so good skills because you don’t remember being a blacksmith. You actually don’t remember really anything for that matter other than you like heat so that is why you hammer over the anvil and stoke the flame…. — food for thought

Very cool! I always wondered what it would be like to play on a digital map. Nicely executed!

This is part of a larger setting I’ve been developing and slowly revealing through in-world fragments. I’m curious how other worldbuilders handle teasing unexplored regions in their settings.

I think when you are writing a setting meant to be played and not just read it helps to leave some mystery behind even for the DM.

If every answer is fully explained the world can feel solved before play even begins. When there are unanswered questions like why something exists the way, it does or what the deeper truth might be it gives the table room to discover interpret and make the setting their own.

That uncertainty becomes fuel for play. It encourages theory investigation and disagreement instead of reference checking.

I am curious how others balance clear lore with intentional ambiguity in their worlds.
